I have never experienced ongoing training that includes classes throughout the week on a flexible schedule. Because of this flexibility, training has easily become part of our routine (we go about 3 times per week). My puppy looks forward to it as do I!  Fidelis K9 also offers Good Canine Citizen (GCC) certification which we are currently working towards.  Most importantly: a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Alejandra and Antonio, the trainers, who I feel are the heart of the training facility. I have used other trainers in the past and this is by far the most progress I have seen out of my dog, Skippy. Before skippy was always pulling on her leash but now is starting to walk by my side. We have done about 3 classes so far and plan to do more! I can't wait to see how much further skippy can advance. Reminder you also have to put in the work. My dog has been....... unpredictable when it comes to meeting people and other dogs, and recently decided to eat our couch. This is on top of barking continuously at noises outside and jetting out the door when it's opened (she's been skunked twice because of this). She DOES hear me when I used to tell her to come, but instead of coming to me, she'd wag her tail and chase whatever's more important in the back bushes. After just ONE session with Jenn, we completely re-focused my dog's attention and have since addressed every one of our concerns AND have recently started scent-training, which has kept our doggo super mentally stimulated. This will be our first and last time we board our dog at Folsom Resort…read more Upon picking up my dog we were informed by the handler that she had just thrown up large amounts of water. When our dog got home she continued to throw up water for the next 24 hours. She also had extreme lethargy, diarrhea and wasn't eating. Two weeks later and we are still trying to rehab her. My dad's dog who was boarded at the same time had the same symptoms. We took our dog to the vet as we were very concerned because she was showing no signs of improvement. Ironically we met another dog in the lobby with the same exact symptoms who had also boarded here on the same dates. Within our small circle we now know of 4 dogs with the same symptoms. How many other dogs are there? I called Folsom Resort to speak with a supervisor and I was told Madison who is the "general manager" would be calling me back. 5 days later and still no call back. $500 later in vet bills and still no returned call, I will be cancelling upcoming bookings and not recommending this facility to anyone.

It's been a huge challenge finding a organization that utilizes positive force-free training. There are so many aspects that I love about the staff at Althea Canines! They are compassionate, knowledgeable, and very accessible to their students and pups. Both the staff and canine trainer- Christopher Hayes welcome new students with open arms. I love that Christopher makes training enjoyable and fun! He has a big heart and helps us students feel supported and takes the time to make sure we understand what our pets are trying to communicate so we can have a strong and respectful bond with our animals. Because of PTSD, I often struggle with anxiety, thus making it difficult to concentrate and absorb the material. Chris and the staff make sure that students are comfortable and always open to two-way communication. I can't say enough great things about Althea Canines! There is an array of training program options available depending on student needs, which is quite rare in nonprofit organizations. These folks are absolutely committed and so giving of their time and energy. Updating my review to say how incredibly happy I am with Powerhouse K9! My puppy is now 8 months…read moreold and has spent a total of 5 weeks here (3 weeks for board-and-train and 2 weeks for regular boarding). As a first-time puppy owner, I wasn't sure what to expect or if puppies just naturally outgrow certain behavioral issues. Either way, this is the only formal training she has ever had, and the results speak for themselves. She came back so incredibly well-behaved. And has reminded well behaved. When we go out in public, people always come up to see her because she's cute, but what they *constantly* comment on is how exceptionally well-behaved she is for an 8-month-old puppy. It is so validating to hear that from strangers! I love and fully agree with Anthony's methods and what he does here. If you want a well-behaved dog, Powerhouse K9 is the only place to go. Highly recommend! Full disclosure: I have a pure poodle and they are known to be smart.
