I have never experienced ongoing training that includes classes throughout the week on a flexible schedule. Because of this flexibility, training has easily become part of our routine (we go about 3 times per week). I have used other trainers in the past and this is by far the most progress I have seen out of my dog, Skippy. Before skippy was always pulling on her leash but now is starting to walk by my side. We have done about 3 classes so far and plan to do more! I can't wait to see how much further skippy can advance. Reminder you also have to put in the work. My dog has been....... unpredictable when it comes to meeting people and other dogs, and recently decided to eat our couch. This is on top of barking continuously at noises outside and jetting out the door when it's opened (she's been skunked twice because of this). She DOES hear me when I used to tell her to come, but instead of coming to me, she'd wag her tail and chase whatever's more important in the back bushes. After just ONE session with Jenn, we completely re-focused my dog's attention and have since addressed every one of our concerns AND have recently started scent-training, which has kept our doggo super mentally stimulated. Before booking, my dog completed her evaluation day at Folsom Dog Resort, and everything went very well. Based on that experience, we signed up both my dog and my daughter's dog for boarding from June 4 through June 8. When I picked them up on June 8, my dog initially seemed fine. However, my daughter's dog had just vomited a large amount of water when they brought her out. Later that day, my dog also didn't seem herself. She stopped eating and then developed diarrhea. When I checked in with my daughter, her dog was experiencing similar symptoms. I called Folsom Dog Resort to express my concerns. Unfortunately, the person who took my call did not seem particularly interested in the situation, and I never received any follow-up communication. My daughter ended up taking her dog to the veterinarian and is still waiting to learn what caused the illness. My dog has still not fully recovered. Because of this experience, I will not be bringing my dog back.

They are compassionate, knowledgeable, and very accessible to their students and pups. Both the staff and canine trainer- Christopher Hayes welcome new students with open arms. I love that Christopher makes training enjoyable and fun! He has a big heart and helps us students feel supported and takes the time to make sure we understand what our pets are trying to communicate so we can have a strong and respectful bond with our animals. Because of PTSD, I often struggle with anxiety, thus making it difficult to concentrate and absorb the material. Chris and the staff make sure that students are comfortable and always open to two-way communication. I can't say enough great things about Althea Canines! There is an array of training program options available depending on student needs, which is quite rare in nonprofit organizations. These folks are absolutely committed and so giving of their time and energy.
