We had a really nice lunch this afternoon at The Riverside Seafood and Grill. We originally intended to have lunch at the San Jacinto Monument Cafe, but they are not very disabled-friendly (I have a prosthetic and walk with a cane). Nonetheless, we had a very enjoyable meal and met a charming young lady by the name of Niki, who was our server this afternoon. She is the regular bartender on the weekends, and with her outgoing personality, I am sure she does well! Now to why y'all are reading this review: the food was seriously good. The fried pickles were like thin potato chips--nice and crispy. I had the seafood basket with fresh oysters, catfish, hushpuppies, and crawfish tails. My friend had the tilapia, and her French fries were nice and crispy, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It was a good afternoon to be had by all. Give them a try--you'll be glad you did. Hubs had the grilled shrimp with mashed potatoes and green beans and approved and he is very picky about his seafood, so you know it was delicious! Service was very friendly and brought us everything we needed. Only one problem- blasting music super loud, including some with very questionable lyrics. We had to yell our requests to the server. Lovely, helpful staff. Really comfy down home atmosphere right on the water. The food was so good, y'all! Lots of fried seafood in the menu, as you can imagine. But it's done well. Not super greasy and they take the time to handmake things like the dipping sauces they serve. Drinks are a nice addition with daily specials and old standards. Definitely not watered down and they'll have something to anyone's taste. The porch can get a bit warm in the summer, but we sat there anyway and enjoyed it with the fans and the sea breeze. Parking is easy to access and plentiful. Good experience and we will be back when we're in the area. read more

After searching the area we stopped in for a quick bite at this super cute spot. We were greeted immediately and although they had tons of seating indoor/outdoor, we chose to sit at the bar. Great service from the bartender who was very patient with me because I couldn't make up my mind. Husband said the burger was "okay" and I enjoyed the shrimp tacos although they were a bit messy. They also had a special on margaritas. Hubby and I both agreed that strawberry was the better of the two. We will definitely stop in again if we're ever in the area. read more

My food was a 10 out of 10. The service was amazing. The ambiance was clean and organized. They have plenty of parking outside and there is a view of water. I came on a Sunday for lunch just googled this spot and came across guest. It's a true duck off but worth going. I had a very sweet and friendly waitress. I forgot her name but she had a pretty face and black hair. I ordered steak bites, asparagus, and onion rings. The steak was marinated, asparagus had a butter and lemon flavor and the onion rings were crispy and fresh. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! My guest ordered catfish, grilled shrimp, and fries. The atmosphere is trashy, the staff is unfriendly, and the food is nowhere near what it used to be. What really blew my mind was the way the staff handled a completely private conversation at our table. One waitress kept backing away from my mother while she was trying to speak to her over the loud band music. My mom lightly touched her arm just to get her attention so she could lean in and hear her. Later, I mentioned to my table that I thought it came across as rude. Somehow another waitress was apparently eavesdropping on our conversation and decided to insert herself into it to explain that the waitress "doesn't like to be touched." Okay -- that's understandable, but at least tell my senior mother that is hard of hearing the reason you keep backing away. Either way, interrupting a private conversation between paying customers and then threatening to have me escorted out over simply quietly expressing my opinion at my own table? Completely unacceptable and unbelievably unprofessional. I ended up escorting myself out because the entire situation was ridiculous and uncalled for. I have genuinely never experienced anything like that at any restaurant before. Riverside used to feel welcoming and like a hometown staple. Family time with my son and daughter. It was their first time coming here and my second one. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich with bacon with a side of onion rings . I was pleased with my order the chicken breast was well seasoned and cooked. It was the first time ordering onion rings and I was impressed and would definitely order again. My daughter had the shrimp poboy and it looked delicious and big. She enjoyed every bite. My son ordered the crawfish with potatoes, corn and boiled shrimp. He enjoyed his meal as well no complaints. The food tasted great! Service was ok, felt it could've been better. The atmosphere inside is warm and casual. Outdoor dining on the deck would've been chosen if it weren't for the Texas summer heat. Especially with the water surrounding this place on three sides. Lacking that 5th star because their menu was a bit misleading. For example: Nachos on their menu, is just tortilla chips and queso. This used to be an old marina in Channelview now converted into a restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the San Jacinto River. Full bar and awesome with plenty of TVs to enjoy whatever sports you fancy. Next to a public boat ramp and across from a small park. The area is a little sketchy and a bit of an eye sore, but don't mind that just mind ya business and go stop by Riverside and grab so grub and nice adult beverage. Enjoy. Originally opened in the 1950s, what was formerly the Riverside Inn and Marina has been something of a Port of Houston institution over many decades, serving port workers and Houstonians who made the drive. I was recently made aware that this place had reopened (December 13) under new ownership and management after having been closed for a while, and I was not disappointed. The menu is simple but still includes a decent variety of burgers, seafood, and other dishes like steak and chicken. There's also a cocktail list that boasts some variations of many favorites like margaritas, old-fashioneds, and martinis, though they have a full bar if you want to order something else. The beer selection, unfortunately, is a bit disappointing as the menu shows only macrobrewer options like Michelob and Bud Light but no craft beer selections like Saint Arnold or Karbach such as I would normally spring for. For our meal, we started off with margaritas, which were not only delicious, but also quite strong (just like I like them). These were supplemented by appetizers of chips, queso, and guacamole. While I found the guacamole a bit disappointing as it was somewhat bland, the queso, which the restaurant considers its specialty, was excellent, being delectably creamy and chunky. For entree, I had the Riverside redfish, which comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. The fish was perfectly cooked and nicely complemented by the Riverside Sauce it was smothered in with the mashed potatoes and green beans also being good if not fantastic. Now while the food and drinks were appetizing, the thing that makes The Riverside truly worth visiting is its outdoor deck that overlooks the Ship Channel. On the Friday that I visited, it was a beautiful sunny day, and I could have sat for hours just watching the water and boats that come by every so often. Though the ship channel water might not exactly be a Caribbean blue, and while there is a refinery visible in the distance, the view and feel is still incredibly pleasant, especially considering that it's only about a 25 minute drive from downtown Houston. So while I am not a person who usually likes to drive too far for food, I can see myself making another trip here in the future to get away from the city and take in some food and drinks on the water. read more

If one likes fried seafood, this is the place for you. Their blackened dishes lack flavor! It is very nice to enjoy a meal on the waters of the San Jacinto River especially if it is a over pricey steak. But they do lack qualities for a fine Five Star Seafood Restaurant.
