I came here after watching a you tuber's video review. I observe lent fasting on Fridays and saw that Carla's had a shrimp po-boy I wanted to try. It is a small town diner essentially located in the Highlands. Not a very big space. Not sure what to do we grabbed menus and sat down no greeter or host at the front. We had to clear our own table because I only saw one waitstaff running around. We were finally told we can look at the menus and order at the front. I knew I wanted the po-boy and that is what I ordered, my wife got the shrimp basket, and our daughter ordered the steak finger basket. Our meal took a while to come out and what came out was not a shrimp po-boy. It was a shrimp sandwich on Texas toast. I looked at it and told the server that is not a po-boy. She said they were out of the hoagie rolls and that was a sub for the bread it would have been courteous to let me know before I ordered this that this was what was being offered. Unfortunately I had to send it back and order the basket instead and I do not like doing that. No tartar or ketchup was sent out with the meal and had to ask for it. They sent out room temperature tartar sauce in an already handled bottle by other guests which to me was not very sanitary. Will not be back. If your looking for a cozy blast from the past Amazing little mom and pop restaurant feel with great customer service and speedy food arrival you found it. The young ladies working the counter are sweet and informative. Thy did not give the standard "i dono" answer if one didn't know sumthin they found you the answer. That alone will keep me coming back. The portions where great food was cooked amazing and with love Becouse it was all put together very well and organized. This hometown gem is great. I'm used to huge Philly steak sandwiches that I can barely eat and much more expensive. This one was a smaller size and price. Perfect size for me. Great crinkle cut fries but they lacked salt. Maybe they were looking out for my blood pressure? Service was fast and courteous! Another small town bonus! If you're on I-10 and want a good, affordable meal then drive a couple minutes off the freeway and try this place. I've heard plenty of good things about them, but, I wouldn't know. I took my family at 7:30 PM and was told that they closed at 8PM . We didn't get a chance to sit down and eat, or order anything and ended up going to Olive Garden. I guess the C-19 virus only comes out after 8PM in Highlands, but not in Baytown. Ok. So, here goes. It's Good! We decided to look for a new spot and we found one. Weekends are our adventure time and we love hunting down these types of places. Plenty of parking. Clean inside. Friendly staff. Amazing chocolate shakes. They use clean oil guys! Thier fried foods taste so good and clean. Coleslaw is is the best I've had in years. Fish, dogs, burgers, and even tacos! Live in Sunrise Pines area but this is worth the trip. read more

On my last review I forgot to mention (talking real low so no one will hear us) Miss Carla serves some of the best Catfish in this part of Texas! But don't tell anyone again our secret! Call first because her hours have been known to change! Miss Carla don't change fishermen on us!
