At first, I was a little skeptical. I'm a city girl through-and-through, so staying at a little country spot had me wondering. This place is amazing! The house is 1800 Victorian; however, all the amenities are updated. We stayed in the front room, Ingenue. Our window faced the street, but the property is far enough back from the street line that the sound of passing cars wasn't overwhelming. You know how most places don't have enough water pressure? This place had almost too much water pressure! LOL! I didn't care for it, but my husband loved it. Breakfast was amazing! Fruit, breakfast soup (yogurt? Idk -- but it was soooo good), and tusk-an rolls (named after the elephants ... you'll have to visit this place to find out ) Our bed was firm, but comfortable. I slept like a rock. LOL! The towels are thick hotel towels ... And I'm obsessed with peacocks -- hence, all the peacock pictures. All-in-all, we definitely will be staying again -- AND I CAN'T WAIT!! read more

My husband booked this place (By himself!!!...I know, impressive) We were driving up to Tahoe and were going to break the trip into 3 different nights, this was night 1. The place is not really my personal decorating style - but you cannot deny that the host and hostess are passionate about their place and providing hospitality. We had the Carousel room - which if I had counted might have had 400 Carousel tchotchkes in 500 square feet. There was a king size bed and a tub in the room, but it was a bit awkward because the coved ceiling would bump your head as you walked around it - Good thing they had not 1, but 2 "carousel themed" reminders not to bonk your head hanging from the ceiling- Wonder if a queen-sized bed might be a better choice in that room? Very cute and cozy place with friendly owners and lovely food. We stayed in the carousel room, which was very comfortable and had an en suite bathroom. It also had a huge tub, which I was excited about because it was frickin' cold that weekend. Unfortunately we found that there was very little hot water - maybe because of the low outside temperatures. Barely enough to take a shower, even though there didn't seem to be other guests staying at the time. I did try to fill the tub but I got about 2 inches of warm water before it went cold. I birdbathed it for a few minutes, and then tried for more hot water but I had to give up and get out. The owner was very friendly and chatty but I wish he'd kept his political views to himself. If I want to hear about partisan politics I'd...oh, wait, I don't because I'm on vacation! Aside from the hot water and the unwanted politics, the place was very comfortable and pleasant. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful is the best way to describe The Robin's Nest! Bill and Karen are two of the nicest and most interesting people you will ever meet. The inn itself is warm, inviting and well kept. The grounds are very well groomed and there is plenty of space to lounge, play and relax. An outdoor kitchen, lawn games, tables, chairs and even a deck with a great view of the valley. The rooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable. We stayed in the Carousel Room. The bed was comfy and the bath tub was sooooo relaxing! Breakfast was served in their dining room at 9am sharp. They served a scrumptious three course meal with coffee and juice. Still impressed by the wonderful lodging, accommodations and wonderful breakfast that Karen and Bill provide. Though it's been a few years longer than I anticipated, as promised I returned with my family while visiting Gold Country nearby. Our family of four stayed in the Mariner and the Cranny. The family especially enjoyed the freestanding bathtub in the Mariner, which also helped humidify the air in the Mariner room. The air in fall was starting to dry out and it was cool at night so that was a help! We stayed three days in total and enjoyed the wonderful food each morning. Very thankful that Bill was able to accommodate the food sensitivities of the family (one who was lactose intolerant, and then glad that he doesn't serve any peanut foods in the kitchen). We also appreciated the turnover service every morning, and of note, be sure to check out the epic living rooms with the books and historical scrapbooks of the Inn. Talk about history! Finally, I just want to share that you are sharing a home with two wonderful people, open and warm, who take the time to welcome, stop and chat with you, and ... be real! I am reviewing The Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast on behalf of my entire family. Sixteen of us in all, spending several days with our hosts, Bill and Karin Konietzny. We had a family wedding for our grand daughter and we were ten minutes away from the wedding venue. From the first hello until our good bye hugs, we were right at home. Whether it was enjoying the parlor for complimentary port,Sherry and cookies, perhaps a bubble bath in the Mariner's room bathtub, taking photos or coming to breakfast in the robes they provide, it was the best! My partner and I stayed 2 nights for his birthday weekend and what a find !!! Bill and Karen could not have rolled out a deeper color of a red carpet for us. They were so very nice, like family we haven't seen in months! We stayed in the Carousel room with a huge tub and it was so comfortable. The breakfast in the mornings were above what I ever dreamed it would be. The soft music playing in the room when you walk in was fabulous and even playing softly in the mansion itself. Conversations with the owners, Bill and Karen was like we have known them for years! Even Their cat, Groucho was so welcoming and loved to be petted. The food, decor, and grounds were really excellent. You can tell Karen and Bill love what they do and it shows. The house is a veritable feast for the eyes, with hundreds of books, dolls, antiques, paintings, etc. It really takes a few minutes to just absorb it all. My wife and I had the Carousel room; so named for the carousel horse theme. Wonderful staff, great food. Right off the main highway so not as peaceful as we would have liked but that was minor for our purposes. Karen and Bill were very patient with answering all of our questions and uncertainty about what time we would arrive. And when we had trouble finding their parking lot (even though they'd sent us the map which we'd forgotten about), they very patiently guided us and met us in the lot. I don't normally take pictures of my food but felt compelled to take pictures of our breakfast so that I could savor it long after our trip. Started with Papaya and blueberries nicely prepared (and I don't even like blueberries but I ate all of mine). Then cold fruit soup which I've raved about to everyone. Eggs Benedict Florentine was the last course. We were very happy. If I'm ever in the San Andreas area again, this will be the place I stay. read more

I wish I could give this place 10 stars. We were welcomed warmly by Bill when my husband and I arrived yesterday and he gave us a tour of the mansion, along with a free upgrade on our room. I felt spoiled. Every day I woke up to a wonderful breakfast. Every day I came home to a spotless room. The grounds are beautiful. There is a barbecue available for use. There is a large grassy area with plenty of places to sit. It would be good for group entertainment. The interior of the house is well decorated and comfortable. There is Sherry, Port and cookies available to enjoy at night if you want. The radio plays a soft restful music that you can hear throughout the house, is very peaceful and comforting.I stayed for four months for business. There was plenty of room to spread out and do my paperwork in the living room and in my suite. Entire house is open, roomy, and airy. Bill and Karen Spoiled me and made me feel so welcome. This review is about Robin's Nest, but it also talks about the things to do in northern and southern Gold Rush country, within easy driving distance of Robin's Nest. (In fact, we even told Bill that he should promote the B&B as being the perfect location to visit northern and southern Gold Country!) ______________________________________________________________ "I want to go somewhere for Labor Day weekend but I do not want to fly, be on 101 or 80, or be where it is super crowded. When the kids & I stayed in Murphys for the weekend a couple of weekends ago, there were still a lot of things we didn't see. How about staying somewhere that lets us see some of the other parts of the southern Gold Rush Country, as well as maybe go back to Big Trees to see the sequoias on the southern trail?" With these words, I began to pull out the guidebooks of northern CA that we keep at our house to determine if this was a place that I wanted to visit for a second time. We found lots to do. The only problem was that we had only a few days to Labor Day. After we found some of the things we wanted to do, I began searching the Internet for places to stay. Since Tony Bennett was in town, Murphys was out. I didn't really want to go to Columbia since I had been there a couple of weeks before. Up pops Robins Nest. Hmmm...a bed and breakfast? Where is San Andreas? Is it near anything? Is the cost reasonable? Does it have a private bath? Will we have any privacy? Lets check the reviews. Hmmm..looks pretty good so far. Lets check YELP. Yep, the reviews look good there, also. Yes, it has private baths, the cost isn't too steep, and the pictures of the rooms on their website look good. Is it near anything? Well, it is within driving distance of some places we might want to go to. And gee, they give a discount for a 2-night stay. Ah heck, lets book it! Not wanting to hit the Friday night Labor Day traffic, we got on the road bright and early on Saturday morning, heading to Big Trees Park. We grabbed some sandwiches from the deli at the local IGA-branded supermarket in Arnold and had a picnic in Big Trees. (Make sure you take a map if you are hiking. Some couple had wondered off the path and became lost. We had to show them our map so hopefully they wouldn't get lost again. Even then, they showed back up at the picnic area, lost again. Finally someone gave them their map so that they could get back to their car!) After hiking the 5-mile southern trail and admiring the sequoias, we headed back down the road. A small festival was going on so we stopped and walked around the displays, buying some fresh kettle corn along the way. We decided to rest a bit, munch on our kettle corn, and listen to the band playing eclectic music. Unplanned, but relaxing. Finally, we drive to Robins Nest. We were welcomed by Bill who took us on a tour of the house. Although I love the color of yellow, since we were staying two nights, we decided to pay a little more and stay in the Ingenue room (the former master bedroom.) Although it was downstairs, it was not close to the dining room or kitchen so we were not bothered by the sounds of other guests. After unpacking and resting for awhile, we drove into Angels Camp, visiting a local Italian restaurant that Bill had recommended--Cruscos. Great recommendation. The salmon in some type of orange sauce was fantastic! After wondering through the streets looking at all of the inscriptions on the sidewalk of winners of the jumping frogs of Calaveras County (think Hollywood Boulevard but for frogs,) we wondered into a local place for ice cream. Exhausted, we drove back to Robin's"s Nest where we slept like babies. Just as everyone else said, the breakfast was fantastic! We enjoyed our conversation, as we talked with the other couples, all of whom seemed to be from the Bay area! One couple recommended going to the Shenandoah area of Amidor County for wine tasting. We changed our plans, visited Indian Rock, and then drove up toward Plymouth, CA. We were lucky and found a visitors center and talked with Stan (or was it Shan??) He was absolutely fantastic! He told us about a place to go to to pick up picnic sandwiches and showed us pics of a winery that had awesome views from their picnic area. He showed us several places on the map to visit, as well as some places we had read about. We ended up having a great day! Of course, we had to visit downtown Sutters Creek on the way back so that we could enjoy some homemade fudge! That night, following another of Bill 's suggestions we visited a Thai restaurant going in the opposite direction of Angels Camp. Since it was located in a very small town, we did not know what to expect. Once again, Bill was right---the Thai food was awesome. The next day, after a leisurely breakfast, we headed back to the Bay area, stopping to buy fresh fruit for the following week. A bit tired, but very relaxed! read more

This was our first time staying at this bed and breakfast. The owners were very pleasant. They were available when needed, but otherwise they were completely out of site. It was nice... the bottom floor of this Victorian mansion had 3 bedrooms, a huge kitchen, and two sitting areas and a formal dining room. So I felt like I was NOT intruding in or wandering through someone's home like I've felt at some other B&B's. The breakfast was gourmet. I liked most items. Most was very healthy and creative. When I let them know the orange juice tasted a little "off", they were very gracious and quickly replaced it with fresh juice (and even apologized for not tasting it before serving it)! The price was fantastic. We had a private bathroom & small TV in our room. Opened the huge windows at night to enjoy the fresh night air. During the day, the place was nicely air conditioned. One note, San Andreas has nothing to do at night unless you like local, small bars. The town rolls up and shuts down VERY early. We plan to return and definitely recommend this affordable, nice B&B to others! read more

Well I was sure I tasted and reviewed this awesome place years ago, but since I can't find it now, I'll do it again. A fellow (Army) veteran and I (Air Force) stayed here about 5-6 years ago and I STILL haven't forgotten it! The warm kind and generous treatment we received from the owners was over the top wonderful. The comfortable gorgeous home and quaint rooms gave you a feeling of being at home. We were only sad that, on our great road trip, we were only staying one night. Then again, we would have been begging for dinner too because that gourmet breakfast was to die for! I researched a bed and breakfast online and found this great place. It is the opposite of a sterile atmosphere corporate hotel, so the perfect bed and breakfast. It has a warm and cozy atmosphere that welcomes you to sit and talk with other guests in the evening, or at breakfast if that's your thing, or you can stay in the comfortable bedroom and chill. The rooms have private bathrooms so you only need to come out when you are feeling it. The owners (Bill and Karen) are outgoing and welcoming and will give you good recommendations for places to eat and things to do. The grounds are very nice, and I am looking forward to returning in warmer weather and relaxing out on the deck. I will definitely return in the future. read more

There are only about 3 places to stay in San Andreas so it is quite fortunate that one of them is of excellent quality. The rooms at the Robin's Nest are clean and well maintained. Unlike many other B&B each room has a private bath which is key. So, this place is more like an inn. The grounds are nicely kept and the owner very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast great and one of the best I have had. They started out with fresh pineapple and strawberry. This was followed by a banana-strawberry soup (kind of like custard). The main dish had scrambled eggs, French toast, and chicken sausage. There was coffee and OJ as well. The food was cooked and seasoned perfectly. If you need a place to stay in San Andreas, this is it. read more

For our 20th Anniversary we wanted to travel somewhere for a change. My wife wanted to go to a Bed n Breakfast, I wanted to re-tour the Gold Country after not having seen it for 30 years. We searched online and narrowed down that The Robin's Nest was the Victorian dream my wife wanted, and that it was the best priced, which is what I wanted! This place is so nice. Rooms and dining area are beautiful. The property is photo worthy! The husband and wife Owners were very hospitable and displayed a care that to us is unrivaled in this business. Bill prepares the Breakfasts, which are far and beyond what we expected. It came up that I was gluten free, and they took the time to research the best gluten free products and our breakfasts were - voila! Gluten Free! And delicious. My wife felt compelled to take pictures of the meals, and we took many photos of the house itself, so many in fact that we wondered if we were annoying! The living room was a special treat - a piano that plays old-style tunes when you pump the footpedals; many wonderful books in their shelves; and the furniture was very nice. The books - if you visit this place you must check out the two scrapbooks detailing the history of the Nest, with old photos of those who originated and carried the place forward. Additionally, the town's cemetery (up Church Hill rd next to a church) is creepily awesome and worthy of a quick look, if you like that sort of thing. Just sayin... I have to say as a husband for 20 years to a great and fun woman, the gauge of success is in her responses. And she was elated with the whole trip - we toured the Gold Country and had loads of fun - then we got to go back and sleep in our comfortable bed! My husband and I stayed at the Robins Nest this past weekend to attend our nephews wedding but to also celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. We have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before and was pleasantly surprised. It was the most unique hotel we have ever stayed at. The host are typical B&B folks. Engaging, wanting to share conversation, suggesting local experiences, and offering a very Large breakfast. We stayed on the first floor next to the kitchen. The windows lacked any type of black out curtains and that is my main complaint about the room. The bed was comfortable, but there were areas that could have been dusted, or wiped down. Dust was located on various places due to the endless amount of decorations on every table, desk and wall surface. In the room they offered the basics; water, soap, shampoo, maid service, and fresh towels. The home was built in the 1800's and they have updated the interior. I would visit again if the rooms were darken. If not there are lots of other small town B&B's in the area. I would consider the town of Murphy's which was located 20 minutes away. Endless shops wine tasting rooms and restaurants. We spent an afternoon and wined into the evening. Lots of weekend activity that the town of San Andreas lacked. Love love love the robins nest. Bill and Karen are so lovely. When we first arrived Karen told us about the history of the house and showed us all the rooms. They made us feel like family. I missed the breakfast as I was there for work and had to leave at 6.50am (the only negative)and breakfast is 8am or 9am. The bed (the mariner room) was so comfy I felt I was in my own bed! I felt like I was staying over at my aunties instead of a b&b. I felt safe and secure and had a lovely time. Totally recommend it. I hear it looks amazing at Xmas time. read more

While we were out during the day, we didn't expect to have our room cleaned with fresh towels in the bathroom. Breakfast was very tasty, healthy and filling. My only request would be homemade hot salsa. The house is beautifully decorated, lots of details. They kept their Christmas tree up, which we appreciated very much. We unexpectedly found ourselves in San Andreas when coming back from a vacation in Arnold and so happy that we decided to stay a night at the Robin's Nest. Karen was very welcoming and gave us a rich history of the property. I had already decided on the Safari room as we wanted an outside patio and it was very comfortable. The next morning, my husband and I had probably one of the best breakfasts of our lives. First course was fresh fruit and the second course was a strawberry-banana soup. I was skeptical of the soup (I thought it was yogurt at first) until I had the first taste - unbelievably good!! Honestly, that dish alone was worth the money! Final course was a hash brown patty (the below reviewer was telling the truth when he said how good it was) and a veggie frittata wrapped in a tortilla and that was amazing too. We were the only ones having breakfast at 8 (the other guests had chosen a 9 am bfast time) and we had a great conversation with Bill and learned how he got his look for food and cooking, etc. They are very warm and kind people and we felt very safe there.
