We don't even drive five and a half hours to visit some relatives. We found it by accident a few years ago on an anniversary trip and liked it so much that we came all the way back just to stay here again. I love this place because it still has that classic 1960s roadside motor lodge feel. Not the "I hope the plumbing works" kind. More like, "This is what a motor lodge would look like if somebody loved it for the last 60 years." Everything is immaculate. The rooms are spotless, the landscaping looks like every blade of grass had a performance review, and they've got a fire pit and cornhole out back. Which is a game I've played for years and still can't believe that's the name everyone agreed on. The people here are just... nice. And not "hotel nice." Actually nice. We know because, on the way up, we hit a deer. That's not part of the amenities, by the way. Suddenly we're wondering if our car is going to be in the shop for days, and the staff immediately started helping us figure out how to extend our stay if we got stranded. They didn't have to do any of that. They just genuinely wanted to help take one more thing off our plate during a pretty stressful day. Thankfully, we made it home, but that little gesture is the kind of thing you remember. There are plenty of hotels where you sleep. This is one where you feel welcome. My wife and I can't wait to come back. Hopefully next time we'll leave the local wildlife out of the itinerary.

I am seriously shocked at how good the food was and the overall experience. My girlfriend kept saying how the inside reminded her of how the titanic looked on the inside and I can definitely see that. The food was amazing. The menu had a bunch of great options to choose from but we went for the sirloin steak & shrimp scampi for entrees. Before the main course we ordered a plate of boneless wings (1/2 lemon pepper 1/2 buffalo). I can't tell but I think this were cut up and trimmed in house because I've never had boneless wings like this. They usually resemble chicken nuggets but these had a different shape to them. They were golden brown and fried to perfection with an amazing crunch! The flavors were just right and made the whole plate delicious. Like seriously I would go back just for the boneless wings. If you come here come HUNGRY because the portions are huge. My steak came with a choice of about 5 sides to choose from AND either soup or salad AND garlic bread. I went for the minestrone soup and I was very pleased. It was almost closer to a chili than minestrone but I enjoyed every single drop. It had a little kick of spicy that I loved! My steak was cooked to perfection and was a huge cut. Served with a big side of rice pilaf & veggies made it the perfect dinner for me. My girlfriend loved her shrimp scampi especially with the risotto and she ate them together as one. She liked how cheesy and creamy the risotto was. We also each got a desert to take home (we haven't tried them yet but they are huge). The prices of everything are really amazing as well! We had so much food and the total was around $75. First, let me say that this is advertised as a bed and breakfast. It passes the test on the breakfast part. It failed on the bed, the room and other things. Second, let me say that my lady and I enjoyed Sandy Sanders, the proprietor. She is a nice person who tries her best. She makes a huge effort to stay out of the way of the lodgers, but is there with the coffee at your room door at 7 am, breakfast at 9 am and snacks and wine at 5 pm. Her cat, Ceecee, travels with her and is very friendly. Now for the downside. There are two rooms of the seven that advertise that they have king size beds. That is partially true. They have king size mattresses and bed springs sitting on top queen size frames. There is a hill in the middle of the bed which pushes you to the edge where because of the slope near the edge, you slide off faster. It makes for a BAD night of sleep. Having king beds on queen frames is just wrong and bad for people like us who paid for a king bed. The leather couch in the Garden Suite is so worn out, the cushions barely support their own weight. One can sink fast when sitting and getting up can require effort. The rear of the property has a nice wooden deck, but the amount of rust, dirt, mold and mildew on the furniture makes it undesirable. French doors from the Garden Suite open out to that area, but it is not an advantage with the outdoor furniture in such sad shape. The photos on the website must have been taken at a much earlier time in the history of the place. It shows a beautifully painted carousel next to the house. What is there now is faded and dirty - kind of scary. The property needs a paint job and there are things that just detract from the property like a rusting tricycle on the deck. The house is full of antiques. That is a nice idea, but taken to the point that the entire house is cluttered with old knicknacks and strange items from the past, does not make it a better place to stay, just a cluttered place to stay. People need places to put their travel belongings when they are travelling. We used the floor and had to move lots of pillows and other clutter to find space above that. This establishment does not earn the cost of the room. You would be better served staying at the Shenandoah Inn (motel), one of the winery B&B or staying in Drytown or Amador City. Having a 5 star review from a person 2 miles away in Fiddletown smells of pimping fake reviews. Yelp only works when reviewers actually stay at a place rather than be buds with the owner.

We had the opposite experience and highly recommend the lodge. The manager and her husband were wonderful and very caring. They saw our Expedia reservation come in even with the power out and helped us get setup quickly. We were so grateful to have a cozy warm room with the gas fireplace stove. There was hot water and the room was perfect. When we had delays leaving the next day because of the snow and no car, they let us take the time we needed to figure things out. The manager's husband saved us in the end and gave us a ride to Murphy's so we could be somewhere with electricity (and food). He was so kind to do that and we won't forget. There was much to see within short and long distances that would satisfy most visitors. From local mini hikes in the Big Trees forest, to a plethora of vineyards/wineries, spa and shopping...to longer treks to Yosemite and stop at the Sacramento Zoo before flying back home. All in all the R&R that was called for when booking this vacation location was achieved.

The unit was clean and had everything we needed. 2 bedrooms both with King size beds, 3 bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen and lovely living space with a fire place. The club house has a very nice heated pool and hot tub, along with a sauna and gym. The place had lots of snow in mid march and you can walk to the Sequoia Woods country club restaurant. (also amazing but make reservations). The staff was kind and very helpful. Check in was a breeze and all our questions were answered. They provide games, movies, puzzles and firewood up front. Looking forward to booking another stay in the summer so we can take advantage of all the hiking around the facility.
