Reading these reviews in an interesting study in human nature. Jesus said to His followers that they would be hated by the world because of Him. Also He said that in the last days, evil would be called good, and good would be called evil. Now we have all read those horrible news stories about people laughing at someone who has fallen on the train tracks and refusing to help them. It is clear enough to everyone that that is not loving at all. It is a clear and ugly evil, and a total lack of Love. Now imagine if I was to believe so strongly that God is real, and He loves us, and we are accountable to Him, because we are His creation. If I were to believe that so strongly that I was unwilling to call it belief, because I know it to be fact. Set aside for a moment, all your arguments about how I could know that. Just suppose I am sincere. If I know that all that God requires is for you to realize your error, and ask Him to forgive you and do your best to follow His rules (being forgiven for your mistakes along the way). I also know in this supposition that Hell is real, and God did not create it for you but for truly horribly wicked demons, who only want to destroy you and take you with them to hell. Now this itself may seem like foolishness to you, if you are not as convinced as I am. But again just suppose that I am totally convinced, and the Pastors are totally convinced of these things. Would it be hatred for us to say to you, "Hey, what you are doing is wrong, it is Sin, you need to ask for God's help and forgiveness, because otherwise your going to an eternal place of torment, which God does not want you to go to." What if I said, "Hey brother, God created us male and female, and he kinda made the pieces fit together in an obvious way, but you are missing it ... He loves you but you are rejecting Him, and His truth. "... "If you don't change your mind and change your ways, and seek His forgiveness as I have, there is no other escape from that horrible place of torment" Would that be hatred? Or, would that demonstrate that I love you enough to warn you, and to try to get you on the path to safety. "Well what about the Money", you say? Well, if you believe that we have taken up the cause of the Creator God, who loves us, to get the truth out to everyone, to save them from death and torment, and if you believe Gods promise in the bible that if we were to give a tenth (tithe) of our income that he would bless us far beyond what we give... If you are convinced by the Bible, you have not been coerced, but convinced that it is true, and if you are like me you have proven God's faithfulness to His promises. So yes, The Rock will try to convince you that we have taken up the cause of God, and that God want us to participate with Him in His cause as we also are in relationship with Him. And The Rock will try to convince you of the Truth, that if you trust God and throw even some of the Money that you have into this cause that you now believe in, that God will in turn bless the 90% you have, so that is stretches further, and bless your finances and your business. We believe it, we are doing it, we have seen it, we are blessed. We want you to be blessed to, and we want your Money to help with the cause of supporting a place where more can be convinced. The simple truth is, that the Church's financial books are open. You will see that we are blessed, but a closer look will reveal that the money is being used for the cause of spreading the bad news of the deception this world finds itself in, and The Good News of God's love and forgiveness to those who will trust in Him. If we believe as we say we believe, then to try to convince you is the only option that Love has. If we let you continue in error to your doom, then we have not loved you, but rather considered your life not worth saving. Now about the "Credit Cards". The Rock teaches strictly against the error of falling into credit card debt. Some of the messages have referred to dependance on credit as believing in Jehovah Visa rather than Jehovah Jireh (Which means our provider). Interesting thing, I have been going to The Rock for years. I had multiple tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt. Because of the teachings at The Rock . . . and because of what I learned hearing The Word of God, and my obedient tithing and good stewardship, I am now debt free (with the exception of my mortgage alone). But, I carry no cash beyond some $5 bills to give to anyone who asks for help. If I spend any money it is done with my debit card (MasterMoney Card), through the mechanism of a "Credit Card" payment machine. Now some, in the name Christianity, and in the "name" of Jesus, have done and said evil things, seeking only profit, and deceiving people. You can really feel the presence of God in this place...its based on the Word of God and NOT man

I grew up in church and was appalled by the clear money hungry tactics this church uses by manipulating the bible to get you to donate money. This church may have been good in the past but as it is now, it's clearly a business. My story: My gf and I are currently looking for a church so we decided to check this church out due to the reviews but DO NOT Be fooled by this churches current 4 star rating (as of the date of this entry). We went in to church as normal and upon sitting down I was slightly bothered by the fact the 3 of the 4 pamphlets were ways you can donate (side note but they even accept credit cards) but we had to walk out when the pastor tied Genesis 1 with Jesus' coming to convince us that the bible wanted us to give to the church so the church can give tithe to God. read more

This review speaks to the service my family received during the Christmas parking lot celebration. There was a petting zoo, jumpers, large train cart, games, candy, coffee, hot chocolate and other cool stuff all provided AT NO COST. I am appalled at the overly emotional response that many church hoppers are leaving about this church and others like it. Here is a cold hard fact: NOTHING is free. You have have gotten used to the idea of living in the nanny state that is California where you went to college for "free" and got food stamps and other "free" stuff by supporting the theft of hard working taxpayers. But in the real world outside of college and at work you must provide for yourself. This includes church. If you want to enjoy large services and be provided with extensive options you MUST pay. there are few things as ungodly as sneering at the tithe. The church depends on the tithe to operate. Amd God will not be robbed. One man went so far as to say the catholic church--the same organization that sold out to a one world government and religion and teaches that homosexuality is not a sin--is superior! Ha. To live in poverty is a curse. The catholic church often stands outside soliciting for donations at every other store we frequent. Yet their congregations are impoverished because they believe to be poor is to be humble. Abraham was sent with gold and silver. MUST READ!! After reading a few negative comments regarding The Rock being operated as a business, I was compelled to share my thoughts. It's extremely simple, is tithing talked about at church? Yes. Is it the topic of every sermon? No. Does Pastor Jerry or any of the staff/members make you feel obligated to tithe? ABSOLUTELY NOT. You give when and what your heart wants to give and if you are not moved to give, than you don't. I personally DO tithe. Not because of anything that is said but I am moved by the Holy Spirit to do so. It is so strange because ever since I started to tithe, my needs are ALWAYS met. Ok I won't lie, most of my wants are also met!! It seems as if I have an endless supply. When I didn't tithe I was always living check to check. My pay didn't seem to be enough for anything. Tithing has impacted my life SO much, that now I fear to not tithe. Please know that the church is constantly giving to the needy (The Rock gives out food every week to families in need), they constantly fund missions and contribute to so many other areas. Not to mention that regardless of what church you attend there is a cost of rent or mortgage for the venue in which your church congregates. Anyhow, thank goodness for all of those lights that illuminate the walkways, otherwise we would never find our seats. Those refreshments in the lobby (most churches offer) didn't just appear on those tables overnight. Neither did the creamer and sugar you used to prepare that perfect cup of coffee in the lobby before or after service. Or how about the tissue, seat covers, soap, and napkins you used while in the rest room. I promise you that Costco didn't donate those daily necessities we all need and use. Also, have you ever noticed that wonderful cool air on those 100 + degree hot days that we enjoy during the sermon while our pastors are preaching or maybe the warm toasty air we feel as we walk into church on those chilly cold winter days? Well guess what, that perfect temperature comes out of something called an AC that cost a fortune to run. These are just a few of the so many items we all enjoy while we attend ANY church and for each of these items there is a cost. So it boils down to who we think should pick up the tab on all these costs?? Should the Pastors be held responsible?? Should the members be held responsible?? I have a great idea!! Since we ALL utilize these services, how about we all contribute to these costs by tithing? No obligation, just a thought. MAIN POINT: As members of ANY church, tithing should never be looked upon as negative. That's exactly what the enemy wants, to plant negative thoughts in our heads and cause division. I used to like The Rock. For their messages, but now the true comes out. They are just a business. They are always talking about money. There is five different ways you can give. Do you really need five different ways to give? If you pay attention, Pastor Jerry is very controlling. And if you really pay attention you can see it's run as a business and NOT as how God wants to run it, as pastor Jerry USED to say. I'm only pointing out what I see. You should make up your own mind as to what you see. This is truly a place where God gets to do what He wants with His people. I've been going there for just about 2 years now with my mom and our lives have going from faith to faith and glory to glory. The whole congregation has been such a blessing and you can see everywhere, literally, how so many lives there have been impacted by the grace of God. This church is big. Normally I would not attend such a big church but this is the first church in many that bring the word and welcome! Smiles everywhere, people to help everywhere. A lot to explore, more importantly this Church feeds it flock. Great music and a great congregation and so diversified. So after not attending the rock for about a year, I've started to go back to the rock again. I really missed the worship. I saw that they have rock groups now. They don't have one in the south bay or around because I work in Culver city and get out of work pretty late so starting out my trek to Anaheim is a challenge but perhaps I will try one of the groups sometime. read more

MUST READ: Reading through some reviews, it is VERY sad to see how critical some people can be. However, if you go and look at reviews for any larger sized church, you'll see that there is no pleasing everyone. There will always be some people that are offended and bothered. I have been attending this church for over a decade and have truly had my life changed by this church. Let me just be COMPLETELY HONEST here... This church has two defining characteristics about it. 1. They REALLY believe what the bible says. They believe that God is a real person and not just someone we make up in our mind to make us feel better. If you are wanting to go to a church and have no real life change in anyway, this isn't the church. If you are wanting to go and really experience the presence of God, have Him change your life and free you from addictions, this is the church. I personally have been freed from many things through being discipled by this church. 2. They love EVERYBODY. Despite what some people have said in the comments, this church doesn't hate anyone. Again, they teach the word of God, that includes everything that God says in the bible, regardless of if it fits the common culture. God says "Do not be conformed to this world...". That means that we don't take what the world believes and shape our god to fit that, but we take what our God says and shape our world to fit that. They relentlessly preach that no matter what, we LOVE everyone. FINAL SUMMARY: I have known the pastors personally for many years and can attest that they truly LOVE everyone and are not after financial gains, but after people. I've attended a few times because family members convinced me to, at first the messages were great with a strong biblical foundation, then it just went downhill overtime and kept watering down, and really it's not somewhere I'd want to be. I moved to the area looking for a church similar to the church I attended previously, good adult as well as teen and kids services/activities. My family and I visited several churches in the area. I found about this church online and I drove by the church several times but wasn't sure if this was what we were looking for. I decided to do what I hope most people do - I prayed about it. A few weeks later, I attended my first service at this church and have been a regular attendee since then. I found that this church contributes so much to the community. Every Saturday there is a food drive - Boxes and boxes of food is distributed to families in need. I have known people in the church and community who have fallen on financial hard times, death in the family, martial problems, and kids that have strayed away from home. In all these situations, they have provided finances, counseling, and homes for some of these individuals in need. Some of the pastors have taken people in their homes and provide godly care for them. I am glad they recently opened up options for tithing and offerings since I am more comfortable to submitting these either online. I like the fact that they let visitors know that they are not pressure to give to this church but to tithe to the church they attend as well as understand what tithing really means - biblical tithing. This place is just about money. I feel bad for a lot of the people that go here, rich or poor, their tricked into thinking that you must give money to the church to prosper and to be blessed. I know this because I went here 3 years ago. My parents always had no money Sunday's because they donated a lot of their money to the church, so when I was hungry at the end of the service my parents would tell me, "we have no money, but don't worry pastor Jerry said we would be blessed and we will prosper because we gave to God". Sometimes I would say that and there were people right in front of them they don't even complain about my hunger and how necessary it was for me to eat. Not even the rich ppl would offer to buy my parents and I some food even when I complain me being hungry. Every time I would go to the services most of the time and they would mostly talk about money. I even met some poor brothers and sisters that were behind on their bills and they still gabe most of it to the cult. And they go to food banks to get food. Not only did my parwnts give a lot, they were in a lot of debt, and they still go here and they are still in debt. But I go to Calvary Chapel now because they told me that you have to be happy about giving you don't have to give if you don't feel like you really should. I have been a born again Christian since 1985 and have attended and served at many other churches. The Rock hands down is the best church I have ever been a part of. The minute you walk into the church on a Sunday morning you immediately can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as the congregation is led in worship by an amazing worship team. Aside from the worship, the teaching is on target, purely Biblical and taught from the heart. This place has a huge children's and young adult's ministry which is awesome. VERY friendly, humble and caring. Definitely can feel the love here. It is a big church but that doesn't mean you cant reach out and meet people instead of expecting them to come to you. Praise and worship is all out, they have a choir that goes all out. Pastor is energized. I went to this church about a 6-12xs, and from my experience with other church's during my 20 year walk, this one is more of a "feel good" "prosperity gospel" type. Its great they encourage everyone to not only read daily but bring your bible's to service. I've been to a church were people had coffee latte in hand instead of their sword, even the pastor didn't have a bible. Again good bible church, they have some saying like, "this is my bible I believe all the promises in it" something like that. Don't remember exact, but from the couple of months I stopped by Pastor Jerry would talk a lot of the "blessings God wants to give you", just seemed more of a prosperity teaching. I love the bible's blessings, promises and warnings. Hey, try it out maybe it's what will be good for you, but never stop or let someone else's comments deter you from seeking God. Please somone help me understand about tithing. I mean why cant the churches agree on what the bibls says about tithing. I mean it should be either a YES or NO as to what the bible COMMANDS us to do when it comes to tithing 10% in todays world. I cant even get Pastors that I have asked to give me the same answer one would say yes you MUST and one would say NO you dont. And what I mean by no you dont is, that you dont have to tithe the full 10% if you dont have it and that it is not stated that you have to in the New Testament. So please can someone who KNOWS and can give it to me straight from the bible if I HAVE to tithe my full 10% even if I dont have it. I just want to do what is commanded to me by the bible and not what you think. I'm truely not looking for a way out of tithing if that is what God is commanding me to do. Good service, but has a one sided perspective. I visited only one service and the guest pastor was talking about the issue in Gaza which was great since I feel like a lot of churches don't really talk about current events, but the message was definitely one-sided and pro-Israel.
