The Livery is a microbrewery and pizzeria in the Arts District. It is located in a restored 1800s former horse stable and grain mill. There is a large bar and they have an extensive list of rotating taps of house-brewed microbrews. My husband had the Livery Lite, reasonably priced at $5. I had the house made seltzer with blueberry lemonade flavor. They are known for their pizzas, so we each ordered a slice. My husband had an Italian Sausage and I have Goat Cheese with Herbs. The slices were large, but the pizza was disappointing. It was a thin, crispy crust with seasoning. Since the pizza was already made and being warmed in a warmer the flavors were not as robust and the cheese was not melted or gooey. If the pizza was fresh from the oven I am sure it would have been better. There is a large indoor space and outdoor beer garden. There is a stage for live events. read more

Came here for a Saturday afternoon brew while passing through and finding them on the Hop Passport, that gets you 2 for 1 beers at breweries. The building is a cool very old brick maybe factory or warehouse of some type. Has that industrial look to it. We ordered at the bar and our bartender was very friendly and offered us to try some beers. I had the IPA and my wife had the wheat, and both were excellent! They have a large selection for any palate, and wine too. They have a great food menu but we did not try anything. I saw on Facebook where they make asparagus soup! If in the area and need some food and beer, give them a try. They get bands throughout the year, and the variety sounded good. read more

I recently tried the turkey sandwich on naan, sausage pizza, caesar salad, and beer. The sandwich needed more dressing or mayo, salt/pepper, something. Neither of us liked the pizza. I was here some years ago but decided to give it another try. At that time, I didnt like the pizza sauce and had a greasy caprese sandwich with pesto. Everything we ordered was great. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and polite. The place is more geared towards adults as it's a bar. I didn't fully read it was brewery when we decided to take my small children. it was during the day so it wasn't as full and we tried to have our kids be on their best behavior. In full transparency, the fam was wanting to go to Silver Beach Pizza. Unfortunately, it was a Saturday night and there was a 2 hour wait there. Since they still wanted pizza, we looked through Yelp and found the Livery - only about a 5 minute drive away. There are two floors at The Livery and upstairs they had a live band, with tickets only $10 - pretty cool, but there were 8 of us, mostly kids and they wanted food, not music. So we went downstairs - plenty of seating for large groups, a bar with beer on tap, and a kitchen in the back. For 8, we ordered two 16 inch pizza (1 cheese, 1 half pepperoni half bacon, a 12 inch Thai Chicken BBQ, garlic cheese bread, Mac n cheese, and a gluten free cheese pizza. Needless to say - it was a ton of food. They were out of chicken, so the Thai Chicken pizza was with ham instead - probably a 6/10. I liked the sweet BBQ sauce base, my wife didn't. Would have been better with chicken, and maybe some fresh spinach and tomato. The kids enjoyed their pizzas (7/10), but they probably preferred the garlic bread and Mac n cheese. The Mac disappeared and it was a good serving size that could probably feed 3-4 kids. I had the Octoberfest on tap - it was really good. Nice, easy drinking and perfect on a colder night. While I was getting my beer filled, a guy at the bar had the best looking pizza - I was jealous and it was too late to change my order ... maybe next time. The atmosphere downstairs was so-so. Wish I had the chance to check out upstairs to see if the atmosphere was better. Pizza is not really my thing anymore, so maybe my review is a little tough on them. If I was there with some buddies, drinking beer - would give the place 4 star easy. read more

Decided to try The Livery with the bestie. Grabbed a small Mac and cheese pizza. The atmosphere was very hipster but I didn't hate it. They were doing trivia night so all but 2 tables and 3 chairs were taken, one of which was actually a cushioned stool that was torn. Water is full yourself and by the door. To order you go to the bar and receive a number like at Fazoli's. You can choose from main level or upper level, forcing the staff to meander up and down stairs to try to find who is the proud owner of the tasty morsels they have carried on a long but unnecessary journey. A man with pretzel bites passed us multiple times. The wall decor was definitely different but it made me laugh my awkward laugh so that's cool. The man working trivia was funny and was entertaining to listen to. The pizza was tasty and presented well. I don't recall exactly how long it took to get the pizza to us (not like I time people lol) but we thought it was about 20 minutes though our hungry tummies tried to trick us. Fun place with a small beer selection all made here. Really enjoyed the beer I got which was the harbor shores. The atmosphere was very cool and they do live music here in the evenings multiple times per month. The staff was not exactly friendly. We stood there for about ten minutes before even getting a hello. Once we were addressed we quickly got our drinks. The food looked good but I can't speak on it since I didn't get any. Would come back if I was in the area but would not make a special trip here. read more

I enjoyed my first visit to the Livery. I was heading up to Holland for a recent weekend and stopped here for lunch and to try a brew. It's a great old building that they've made into a combination tap room/live music spot. Service was good-everyone was in a good mood and was helpful describing their beers and food. The Loaded Hummus was tasty and the veggies crisp to start us off. Two pizzas were good-the 'Can't Believe it's not Lasagna' and 'Rockstar BLT' with both having fresh ingredients and a ton of flavor. Beer-wise, the Love Pump (nitro Imperial Stout) was excellent while the IPA I had was good as well (don't recall the name). Worth a stop when in or near Benton Harbor. read more

Omg the pizza was just brought to me from lunch. It was the Mac and cheese pizza. Upon walking up to this building it has a industrial feel and old Firehouse feeling. I went in and amazing customer service. The beer is constantly changing and they have amazing brews for all taste. The menu has great selection of food. The prices are little high but the service is with it. If you wanna enjoy a nice table in the sun the beer garden is lovely and great place to relax. There are some beautiful parks nearby to stroll through and visit the wonderful arts district of Benton harbor. The livery lives up to it's name and service. read more

We are new the area and stumbled across folks from the Livery at a local Oktoberfest. After the festival, my husband and I decided to check it out in person and I am SO glad we did! He loved the beer flight and I was a huge fan of the menu. The pizza really is as delicious (and massive) we as we had heard. The "toast" portion of the menu is underrated. Recently on a Saturday afternoon, we went to the Livery for lunch. I will not be reviewing the beer, as I find this too subjective. This is one of the first microbreweries that sprang up in Southwest MI; Benton Harbor. It is situated in an industrial area a block off the main downtown drive. It has a very nice outdoor space, but we opted to sit inside in order to talk. Too often, microbreweries struggle with food, because it takes away from the main draw, which is the beer. But as a food place the Livery is solid! We got the pretzels bites, and they arrived warm and a bit buttery. The beer cheese had a nice kick to it. My wife got the Cap'n Bones Rockstar BLT pizza. It was different due to the white sauce(a bit sweet), but she really liked the bacon and the arugula on top. I got the chicken salad sandwich and it was A LOT of food. The chicken salad had apple and celery added in for a moist combination. The multi grain bread was very fresh. My son got the Yardbird (roasted chicken breast) and ciuld barely finish it. The beer was fine, and the other drinks were canned soda pops. The interior of the place is set up as a venue for live music during the evenings. I am sure the whole vibe changes then. If you are looking for a place with solid food options beyond just burgers and French fries, give the Livery a shot. read more

SWMI Yelpers, I thank you from the bottom of my beer-laden heart. Went apartment hunting the other day and decided to swing by here with the bf after. If it weren't for you fine folks, we'd never have found our new fave brew pub! Mike, the once-upon-a-time-San-Franciscan proprietor of this fine establishment, made our first visit oh so very memorable & even more excited to move into the neighborhood. He gladly imparted his vast knowledge of brews...*BF interrupts: What are you reviewing on Yelp? Me: The Livery BF: OHHHH THAT PLACE IS SO AWESOME!* uh...yeah...knowledge of brews, reminisces about SF (speaking of SF, met quite a few ex-Cali folk there, which was nice), and he even introduced the BF to some men who recently retired from the company that he just got hired at (while they chatted about fish, buttons, and beer, I sat and had cerveza after cerveza--not a complaint, just an excuse for drinking more than I'd intended to)! Long story short: This'll be your new Cheers. And for those of you who don't have a Cheers yet, this will be it. Note: Plenty of street parking (during the day, at least) and I believe there's also a lot. Cafe located in the pub area, also serves as a music venue th-sat, at least (methinks). In our travels this year, The Livery was one of the new breweries we decided we were going to visit. The decision was made based on their excellent showing at the 2012 Great Taste of the Midwest. Arriving, The Livery from the outside looks like an old factory or manufacturing facility that has been converted over into something more contemporary for the area. When we were there only the basement section was open. There was person working the bar and one person working the food counter. No waitresses. It wasn't too busy, but the bar was pretty full so we found some tables, ordered food, grabbed some beers and took a seat. We were there around lunchtime on a Friday and I would have thought there would have been wait staff, maybe that's only at night, but we didn't like having to go get our own beers. Especially since the bar didn't have any openings so we had to kind of squeeze through to place an order or get attention. My wife had the smoke salmon sandwich and she though it was okay. Nothing all that great, but better than your average bar food so she was happy with it. I tried their wings and was kind of disappointed. I thought the flavor was decent, but I really wanted more heat to what I had. Our friends had the pizza and again they thought the pizza was alright, but nothing to really brag about. Then again, it wasn't the food that brought us here. It was the beer. The reason I really wanted to stop here was that at Great Taste of the Midwest they had a lot of sours, and I wanted to get a full pint. I was really disappointed when we arrived and they didn't have one sour on available. It was out of season for them. No fun. Maybe it was my disappointment, maybe it was the fact that most of the other beers they had on tap that day were IPA's or beers with higher IBUs, but I didn't find one that really stood out to me. After North Pier we visited the Livery. I'm glad that live music wasn't being played as I'm at a brewery for the beer and or food. Sometimes music that I don't want to hear can ruin it for me. That's not a knock on musicians or the musical tastes of whoever is calling the shots but just how I measure my audible comfort. Fortunately the Livery has good food and good beer.
