    Rock With Plaque

Among the many things to see in Sinnissippi Park are these statues of guys made from rocks, guarding Rockford from someone or something apparently. It makes for a good conversation piece I guess. The Rockmen Guardians are located along the path along the river. Look for them just south of the Conservatory. You can get pictures with them making your own poses. Exactly how they got here may be a mystery to a few. It's actually not that crazy however. These are statues of men made of rocks, put here because it's a good location for those walking along the riverfront. Even though these guys are big, finding them for the first time can be hard. They're actually located to the south of the Conservatory, on the west side of the path. Each of them is standing there with battle gear. The speculation of what they could be guarding against is a fun thought. Great important and interesting tourist attraction. It's a nice place to stop and take a look at the park or whatever's going on around here. This is certainly a place to bring visitors.

Pretty fascinating sculpture found on the river walk trail. Beautiful scenery. These Rockmen are 12 feet tall that are made up completely with boulders and held together by cement. Nice statues to check out if you are ever in Rockford, Illinois.

Perfect park for walking and enjoying the scenery. Close to the conservatory as well which is its own little adventure with cool themes. It felt safe and quiet

This was such a neat thing to stop and see on our road trip. We drove 20m out of the way, and I'm so happy we did! There's a nice walking trail that leads you to these giant rock guardians. The trail seemed pretty busy, but was nice and wide. The area felt safe as well, which is a big deal, especially when you're traveling with kids. These guys are located near the Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens which looked really nice, but unfortunately we didn't have to time to check that out too. This was definitely a great place to stretch our legs and enjoy something interesting and unique!

Beautiful park. Would be fun place for family gatherings and picnics. The statues are an added bonus. Botanical garden just outside park. Only negative is the geese. I've never seen so many geese in one spot before. Where you find geese there is going to be lots of poo.

They're big. They're hard. They're here to rock.your.world. ... or just stand there and look cool. Whatevs, nbd. The Rockmen Guardians are a quirky bunch of statues tucked just off the Rock River bike path, about halfway between the p-lot (by the conservatory) and the YMCA. They're pretty darn big, and you'd think it'd be hard to miss but I was pretty focused on the path ahead, as there's no shortage of green goose doo waiting to moosh itself into your shoe every other step; I probably would've missed seeing them entirely if I hadn't been with others who were more familiar with the path. Most of the time when I look at statues and ish I don't really see much beyond what's right in front of my eyes, but these guys were different. Seeing them was total 'Night At The Museum' deja vu. I don't care what anyone says, there's no way you'll convince me that these burly brick-boys don't come to life once Rockford turns to night. Each a slightly different height, build, and 'outfit'- all while posed with enough personality and pizzaz to inspire a spin-off to RuPaul's drag queen reality show. I'm a total sucker for local flavor (ahem, sh*t fountain) and these stone soldiers are no exception. ... and is it just me, or does the one on the far left have cojones hanging from all that armor?

It's cute. There's plenty to see down here along the Sinnissippi river. Check it out!

My daughter and I were visiting some friends in Rockford, when we decided to go to Chuck E. Cheese…read morefor play and lunch as my 3 year old had never been before. We did the one hour unlimited game pass, personal cheese pizza and salad bar for a grand total of $66. I always forget how expensive this place is, and was annoyed that the Chuck E Cheese car no longer has the camera, and the sketch picture was down as well. That kind of defeats the entire Chuck E Cheese experience. The bathrooms are gross, but I appreciate that the sinks are low enough for the littles. The salad bar was lacking, but what you'd expect from a pizza place. My daughter had fun, but I feel that there are newer children's places that will give you more bang for your buck.

Love this spot! Came here all the time as a kid and hardly recognized it coming back as an adult…read more It's been completely renovated and looks much more modern and new. They have games for just about every age of kid, and they even do monthly subscriptions that are a crazy good value if you plan on coming even 1 time a month (but if your kids are anything like mine, they will beg to come here way more often than once a month) They don't do a coin system anymore, they give you a play card and load it with a certain amount of credits. You then use that card to tap on whatever game you want, and it will tell you how many credits you have left. It also stores the tickets on there which is way better than carrying stacks of physical tickets with you all day. The manager at this location is super friendly and helpful. Most of the employees are too. Would highly recommend this place, and even more so getting a monthly subscription here, especially if you have kids (or even if you don't, I think I have just as much fun as they do!)

The walking path is about a mile around which is a great distance for us. They also have a veterans memorial off the side of the path. Next door they have a museum which I've never been to, but I have been to a wedding nearby and it was a really nice backdrop. I know they have lots of events here throughout the year, including a WWII re-enactment that people from all over the state and region come to. Definitely a place worth checking out.

There's also info about the history of the sock monkey and red heeled socks which are from Rockford, in addition to information about Camp Grant and other local history. We didn't go through the historical village part, but we did check out the dollhouse museum (apparently the collection of one person, but there wasn't really any information about them in the building and no one manning this space). The gift shop is small but well appointed (they need a penny smasher, though!) People can also rent spaces/venues here; there were two weddings happening here the day we were there! A nice smaller local history museum.

Downstairs they have a temporary exhibit highlighting fossils they are finding in the Green River Shale in Utah. From the large bones to the tiny buds of plants. The dinosaur exhibit on the first floor will particularly appeal to kids and vertebrate fossil fans. I spent some time looking at the different birds they had on display as well as the live reptiles in the education room. We were in and out within the hour. Veteran/educator discounts ONLY if you buy a membership. Half the 3rd floor was temporarily closed. I think you may have more visitors for what little you have if your pricing for kids was more reasonable. Or if you opened donation day to those outside Illinois. Especially for a museum one is in and out within an hour. Maybe you should offer a pass, tying in with the Children's museum and perhaps the Art museum since they are all located nearby. Such a great opportunity to introduce young children to Natural History and Art if one was offered. Otherwise, $32 for the 3 of us will not have us return anytime soon.
