Had a date reservation with my husband last night. Spent time taking a Lyft from Rosenberg to this restaurant. Was first seated next to the extremely loud Dj playing for one customer. We asked if we could please move to a quieter table. We picked one next to the other customer. We were never served after then. We waited about a half hour then left. Upon leaving ( you had to walk through the empty bar area), the hostess and bartender were watching us crouched in the corner of the bar. So sad. We won't be back. Wasted a Lyft ride. One Star My wife and I dined at The Roof on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. for brunch in celebration of her birthday. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the standards of a fine dining establishment and was deeply disappointing from start to finish. We were seated promptly since we were the only guests in the restaurant at the time. However, the booth assigned to us had its seat covered with a fleece throw, which created an impression more suited to a casual café than an upscale venue. Our server greeted us politely and began service with water. When we requested the endless mimosas that were advertised online, we were told they were not available. My wife ordered the Salmon Pontchartrain, while I chose the Chicken and French Toast. Despite being the only table at that point, our entrées took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. The quality of the food was far below expectations. The salmon was clearly frozen rather than fresh, something one would expect from a casual chain restaurant, not a fine dining establishment. While my dish was attractively plated, the chicken was extremely tough--so much so that it could not be cut with a knife and had to be torn apart by hand. The overall quality was comparable to, or worse than, what could be found at a fast-food chain for a fraction of the price. Once another table of eight was seated, service declined further. Drink refills took an unusually long time, and we had to wait again for our bill. When it did arrive, we were surprised to see a 20% gratuity automatically applied to our party of two, as well as an additional credit card processing fee. In summary, The Roof delivered an experience that was subpar in every regard--slow service, poorly prepared food, and unjustified additional charges--all while presenting itself as a fine dining destination. The restaurant was 'tacky'. Leather benches covered with cloths to hide the rips. The exposed pipes in the ceiling were covered in dust. There were only 4 people in the restaurant when we arrived. There was no excuse for slow service however, it was at least 10 minutes before someone brought water. No flatware or napkins on the tacky marble top tables. I ordered lamb chops with eggs and grits. I expected French lamb chops instead I received 3 over cooked t-bone cuts. I requested butter for my grits. Waiter actually came from the kitchen to my table with a 'spoon' of butter which he placed in my grits. My appetite was totally gone then. They auto added 18% tip plus a $2.50 no cash fee. I paid cash. Gave the waiter a $100 bill. The restaurant had no change. They had to go out to a store next door to get change. My fr7and I had heard of this restaurant and wanted to try it. It's on the 3rd floor above Alpha desserts building. You can take elevator or stairs. First thing. The place is really nice. Nice seating area inside, very roomy, and nice rooftop patio with lake view. It can get windy up there! There's a good menu but we only ordered drinks. I had the rose champagne with elderberry -- so good. It is sweet. I also got a jalapeño margarita. It was strong and ok. They don't have mezcal btw. All the staff was very sweet and friendly. We definitely want to come back to try their food menu. On a Saturday night it was pretty slow. Music was good inside but there was no music playing outside on the patio, that would've been nicer. When we left at midnight the elevator was not working so we had to walk down 3 flights of stairs buzzed and in stilettos. Overall we had a great time. read more

We couldn't even hear the waitress. The service took a little long from start to finish, took awhile to get noticed at the bar upon arrival, then had to wait on our "reserved" table. The space was small/crowded. I'd rather sit on the other side of the restaurant to eat and then enjoy the live music. Now back to the food... shout out to the chef and kitchen staff. I really hate doing this because I make it a point to support black owned businesses. The issue is that some don't work hard to keep your business once you walk through the door. We visited on a Friday evening and chose to sit at the bar since the main dining room was noisy. We sat for approximately 20 minutes watching the bartender hurriedly make drinks near us. I finally gave up and asked when we would get service. She stated, "I have to make all of the drinks for the dining room before I can serve the bar." I followed curiously with why. "Because they have reservations." Interesting. My first thought was when you have a busy Friday night, you should inform customers when they sit at the bar this is your policy, and there may be a long wait for service. Instead, we had to ask. Secondly, while waiting, we continued to review the menu in anticipation to order soon. My friend noticed there is an automatic gratuity added to ALL checks regardless of party size or quality of service. There is no way a person should have to wait 30+ minutes for service and still expect 20% gratuity with no real acknowledgment you are even there. I have visited this establishment for events and midweek dining with minor to no issues. Sadly, I will not return ever again. BTW we did not eat or have drinks, so I can't comment on the quality of dining based on this experience. read more

I came here for a private event with Xavier University at Louisiana. Was a conference for alumni ( my wife). The food is decent and they did a good job of setting up the venue. The area we were in is by the bar area (little small) seating area. They do have a larger dinner area however. The ambiance is laid back with good music playing. Has a swaggy design. The staff seemed a bit confused about the operations , to include how to run the register at the bar. The roof top lake view, the food and the DJ was awesome! We had the Lamb Chops with herb potatoes and spinach. Everything was cooked to perfection and great flavors. Also, got the Shrimp, Grits and Crab in a lobster cream sauce. So so good! Lastly, the Crawfish Fries. At first I was kind of iffy on trying them but I'm so glad I did. Thank God for free parking!!! Ambiance: They have such a nice outdoor area, but the lighting is broken as are some of the tables, but if that's fixed it would be such a nice space. By the end of the night I didn't even look at my bill & just gave the waiter my credit card because that's how desperate I was to leave! I got anxiety because the experience was so bad and I just wanted to leave. First we weren't seated for about 25 mins after reservation time. Cool, no big deal. They told us they only had outdoor dining available which we settled with. Sat us at wiggly table with service from waiter every 15 mins (we think they had the waiter working both indoor and outdoor, not his fault), long story short since I can't write each complaint since the experience was so poor, drinks were juice. Not a hint of alcohol was detected in mine or my sisters drinks. Took us a like an hour after seating to get those drinks and the mozzarella sticks which were the only okay part of the evening. It windy and awkward outside. Food was AWFUL. I got these oversized stuffed and unseasoned wings with jambalaya that was not tasty, bland fries and over toasted and unseasoned Mac and cheese. My sister asked for catfish and grits and got a huge awkward catfish fillet with boxed grits. She didn't even touch it. I CANNOT believe this place is still in business and see why they're unclaimed on here. Terrible food, terrible service, terrible vibes. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE! RUN!
