What an awful location. I was purchasing two small decor items and the checkout process took forever (like 20+ minutes) and there was only one person ahead also purchasing only decor items (like a small plant and a jewelry box). The lady who was trying to ring me up couldn't figure out how to process my items and the other employee she asked for help was sitting in the back shouting out instructions instead of just walking over (it was only causing more confusion). Scammers!!!! I've had an unfortunate experience with this company. I purchased a couch for was about 1500 with interest and tax i paid $2300, only to discover the same product available on Amazon and eBay for $500. They offered credit, which initially seemed beneficial I paid monthly $75. However, after two years, I was surprised with a $1400 interest fee. They justified this by stating that the promotional period had ended, resulting in additional charges that exceeded the original price of the couch. read more

We recently moved to the area from out of state and needed new furniture. We had been to MANY places to look at couches before we got here. Staff were very friendly and helpful. With few staff on the floor and covid rules in place we were able to look with out being hassled. Karim did check on us to make sure he could answer any questions we had and pull information on pieces we were interested in. We didn't make any decisions that day, but had a loveseat and sofa in mind. We returned a little over a week later and were helped by Tim, who was entertaining and friendly. Our sofa was set to arrive in a month, but just a couple days after placing the order we were told we would get out couches a week later! The bottom broke out and the insurance said they could not fix so they were going tonreplace it.. it's been since February and i have not had a couch to sit on and no one seems to care. They were so patient and courteous with our furniture buying and explained to us the discount offers and protection plan very elaborately. Jasmine,   Thanks for your response to my Yelp review.   Although my disappointment is in the overall quality of all our furniture the particular transaction regarding the attached pictures was purchased on sales receipt# 0721208TQLA on 7/21/12. On 4/28/14 my 4 year old son was climbing into bed and generally uses the side frame.  We used to have a step stool next to the bed but he never used it and would get pushed under the bed most of the time.  So although he shouldn't use the side frame I didn't think it was THAT big of a deal seeing how he weighs all of 41lbs and was told when we were purchasing the set it was made of solid wood.  But the picture clearly shows its compressed wood not solid wood.  I feel lied to and cheated, I could've saved money and gone to Ikea for compressed wood products.  After finding my receipt the next day I called the Warranty claims number which was attached to my receipt on Wednesday 4/30.  The initial recording states that someone will call you back within 24-48 hours, but didn't speak to anyone but I did hold the line for 12 minutes before it forced me to leave a message as I could no longer wait for a live person.   Why make me hold for 12 minutes if only to throw me into a voice mail recording? On Friday 5/2, I called The Room Place on Rand in Arlington Heights where I purchased the set.  They said they'd contact the extended warranty place (the manufacturer) since the bed was over a year old and no longer apart of the Room Place warranty.   I finally got a call from the Manufacturer on Wednesday,  5/7.  They explained that the Room Place never registered the furniture for the warranty and therefore could not file a claim until I did so.  I called the Room Place again and they said I'd need to come in to the showroom.   I physically went to the store as requested on Saturday, 5/10 and waited in line for 10 minutes.  When I explained the situation they made a copy of my receipt and said that they'd have the manufacturer contact me by Friday.  I told her it'd already been 2 weeks but she couldn't do anything for me other than have the manufacturer call me by Friday 5/16. I've also tried can you but your phone won't allow me to leave a message. Mind you its now week FOUR with no calls or resolution to this whole debacle! I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out how to process the lack of customer service and having to jump through hoops to get a replacement when I have a 5 year warranty.  We live in a small apartment so I can't take the frame apart and just have the mattress on the floor in his room because there's nowhere for me to put the broken frame.  Instead, my son is sleeping with me while my husband is sleeping on the couch. And all of my son's toys are in the living room since I won't allow him to play in his room seeing how his bed is a liability and could seriously injured himself.  I can't afford a trip to the ER.   And I'd really love to explain how my husband sleeping on the couch for 2 weeks has been very difficult as he's hasnt had a good night's sleep and works for the health care industry and is on call a lot so it's not a healthy situation all the way around.  I'd love to demand a new bed before the weekend but I'm sure that's impossible as it seems everyone works as fast as the grass grows.  To say I'm upset and frustrated is a severe understatement.   If you can expedite the process of getting this matter resolved I'd be thankful and will reconsider revising my review.  Thank you,  Paige read more

We bought a couch there 10 years ago and it looked just as good after using it for 8 years. We return to the Room Place whenever we need something for the house. I was fully aware that I was walking into a commission-sales minefield when I approached the doors of the showroom. Before grasping the cold steel handle, I took one deep breath, in preparation for the impending swarm. As anticipated, a sales rep attached himself to me within moments of entry. Eddie was polite enough, provided me his card as a) I needed to measure, and b) oxygen was required to make an appropriate decision. In an attempt to forgo another showroom stop, I called in to order. Eddie wasn't available, and while he did call me back, I made the trip back to the warzone. 2nd trip, explained to new rep, as Eddie wasn't in, what I wanted. To my surprise, the total cost I had in my mind was only the price for one of the two pieces. Sigh. I still proceeded with purchase, contingent on Eddie getting credit and a Saturday delivery. The Saturday I wanted wasn't available, so I opted for 10-25. The Monday after purchase, sales rep #2 actually called me back to let me know that the 18th was available and he moved up my delivery. Awesome move. Happy Meg. There are about 3, no, 4 calls to confirm delivery. A bit much, but not deal breaking. I was slotted for 11-2, prefect. 9:54 on the 18th, I get a call. Delivery is outside! Early delivery, and the two delivery men could not have been more efficient in assembling. I got the couch I wanted, delivered when I wanted, and (even though more than I initially thought) for a reasonable price. read more

As soon as we entered the showroom we were immediately hounded by a pack of salespeople. They were instantaneously overbearing which shed a negative light on our entire experience. From then on they continuously circled us and blocked many of our major exits. They were like sharks closing in on their prey. What added to our negative experience was that the selection and showroom were both very small. The mattresses were dreadful, and the sofas were primarily masculine leather pieces that are more fitting in a basement-turned-entertainment room, than a living room. It was one of the first places that we visited in our tour of suburban furniture stores this past week, and unfortunately we do not see a need in ever seeing another Harlem Furniture, or at the very least a Room Place. read more

I was browsing for new furniture and was trying to figure out my taste. I went just to look and was immediately approached when I walked in, which I understood. I told her I didn't need help and was just looking. The same woman approached me again. Told her the same thing. Another woman approached me three minutes later with a different approach. Told her the same thing. Then I was approached by Jim, and I told him the same thing. Before I left, he approached me two more times trying a different tactic each time. I was there for about 15 minutes and was approached 5 times. I've been to Value City and Ashley, and they aren't nearly as pushy. I get it, but there's a point where salespeople become aggressive. Never coming hear again. The sales consultant lied to me and told me i was going to get a $100 back never got it. When i went back to the room place after everything was delivered (except for one night stand because they damaged on the way so i had to wait an extra month for them to bring another one) he told me he was mistaking and couldn't give me money back. I called customer service and they told me its not there problem, that i have to take it up at the store level. Plus our dining table is lopsided and wobbles like no other, and when i say wobble I mean wobble. I then called and they said they were running late and i would receive it by the end of May. I received another phone call today and was informed that I would now receive it June 12th. I have a bad experience with this company, they sold me a defected recliner for $465 ! and since I have a protection plan for $100 they tried to fix it many times and keep wasting my time by doing so and finally the chair is sitting in my house taking over a big space for no use ! AVOID THE ROOMPLACE!!! I ordered a loveseat and sofa. The loveseat had a black mark upon delivery. I called customer service and got a replacement. When the replacement came the wood was cracked on the corner of the wooden frame. My third replacement was the same loveseat they delivered the first time!!!!! Words can't express how disgusted I am with the treatment I received from The Room Place. I ordered a $2000 set 2 years ago. First, I noticed that one of the sofa's was unstable. I thought I received a lemon and it was my loss. I decided to contact the room place and I guess my explanation wasn't good enough to warrant someone coming out. I just sucked it up and dealt with it. Until....that night I will never forget. My daughter had a friend over. She sat on the couch and literally flipped sideways off the couch and that section of the couch landed on top of her.-- No joke! Thank God she was ok. Needless to say I was extremely y angry and called again. I guess the idea of a lawsuit lit fire under them so they finally sent someone out. What did they find...well turns the delivery guys who assembled the couch did a half ass job. It was missing 3 of the 6 parts on one side! That is why one side of the couch separated from the middle console. Thank God it was a teenager and not a child that flipped out the couch! Anyway after a month of waiting for the darn part and having no use of that couch, they finally fixed it. 2nd issue-I have been noticing that the material seems to be slowly chipping away. I contacted the room place AGAIN! They said I am over my 1 year warranty. I said seriously... so you expect your furniture to fall apart after one year I guess because that is the shortest warranty ever for an expensive purchase. Anyway, they said they couldn't help me. When the service guy came out to fix my faulty couch I asked him does this material look normal for a couch that is only 2 years old. His exact words "HELL NO". I have attached the pictures. The sales guy ranted and raved about this material and how strong it was blah blah blah-BS. Yes, it looks like an animal scratched it up. I am allergic to animals, so I can tell you that is definitely not the case. Please stay away from the The Roomplace. They do not care once they have your money. I am literally depressed over my furniture. I hate to even look at it. Every time I or someone sits on it, I cringe knowing it is chipping away more. Bottom line is I am not American and we are all about honesty so consider yourself warned as there maybe some R rated words. I came here with the family and we took the store by storm as we needed every possible furniture you could think of. Bedroom set, mattresses, toddler bed, dinning room set, living room, carpet, ottoman, lamps.... Gabriel was the one that helped us out. He was the only person that was pleasant about this place, everything else wasn't. We got told that the furniture was going to be brought in a certain date only to be told on the day that we were expecting it that it was on back order. Gee really? Reminds you of that person that you have an appointment with that calls u at the exact time of appointment just to tell u they are not going to be there on time. No sh** Sherlock! It doesnt matter because the customer service representative was really sorry and that really was bound to fix my problem. Well it gets better, because the bedroom set was on back order, theplace was kind enough to offer a loaner mattress and box spring. We genuinely appreciated it and accepted. Here comes the bad part. TRP called to say that there is a delivery for my address. Surely enough I can appreciate that as it is about 10 days before the date. Who doesnt love getting their own furniture. Well the joke was on me because not only did they not bring the furniture but they picked up the loaner furniture. 10 more days till the scheduled furniture is about to arrive. When I tried calling customer service to see whats up, they were so baffled that the loaner furniture was picked up. Purchased supposedly an Italian sofa, turned out actually made in China. Got duped into purchasing a warranty from Guardian Protection Products. How we got duped? We were told the total purchase price will be actually lower with the warranty than without. Guardian Protection is a total sham. Whatever happens it will be not covered, always. After just over a year the faux leather on the sofa started cracking up in one particular spot. Clearly, a defective and/or low quality material. Repair quotes are around 80% of what we paid for the sofa. Not worth it. Complete loss. read more

I will never go back to this location. We were there Labor Day weekend to buy a bed for our toddler, upon delivery we noticed that we needed additional slats so the mattress was stable. We called the store and was told that it was our fault for not ordering them, but our sales person never told us it didn't come with enough. We have a bed that is not safe for our toddler to sleep on. We were then told that the slats were $80 plus an $80 delivery fee, which we were not about to pay considering the sales rep didn't do his job. We were then told again its not their problem and we can't return the bed. They obviously don't stand behind their products if you're not allowed to return their horrible, cheap furniture. How does a bed come without enough parts, it literally blows my mind. I'm in sales and if I EVER treated a customer the way we were treated I wouldn't have a job. We had the worst experience getting a couch at the Room Place in Arlington Heights. My boyfriend and I decided to get a new couch for my upcoming birthday. The people who work there are good at approaching you the moment you get there, but when it comes to performance and service quality: it is absolutely lacking. It's easier buying a house than getting a couch, so you can imagine how frustrating this experience was for us. First, we saw a couch we really fell in love with. It is a sectional, and the manager told us we don't need to measure because the couch would fit, we did also mention we live on the fifth floor, so we have an elevator. We requested a Saturday delivery, they called during the week and told us they can't guarantee the couch would still be there if we proceed with Saturday delivery, we had to change during the week. We had paid in full the day we got the couch, and now they're telling us someone else may get it unless we change delivery date. So I used a vacation day off from work (which I don't have too many left) just to be home on Friday when they delivered the couch. Well, they did come, but the moment I opened the door, the delivery man said: "There's a problem! The couch is too big and won't fit in the elevator." He also did mention that they have tried delivering at this building before, and they've had problems with this couch. When I asked why no one suggested it may be too big, he said that "you know they just want to make their money." We went back to the store. We met with another manager, she was polite and did mention that she's had trouble with some of this couches before. We chose another couch, less expensive, and were told it would be here on Saturday, a week away. We asked several times if they're sure because I needed to have this couch for my birthday as I am having some friends over. Also, we did throw away the old couch we had as it was broken, and we needed space for the new one. Well, my boyfriend got a call today saying that they can't deliver in a week, we have to wait 2 weeks to get this couch. We also have to wait two weeks to get the difference of our refund back until they deliver out couch!!! My boyfriend got upset, and the manager said he will "make an exception and try to get us the money sooner." Everything we are going through is insane. Their job should not only be to jump at you the moment you enter the store, but to make sure the service actually works and you walk away happy and stress-free. It has not been so, and if I could give 0 stars I would. Will never go back there again, and for those who do- just beware that you may stress about you more than you need to. Since when did buying a couch become so complicated? They should know their jobs, and everyone was just saying different things and still no couch. Tried talking to store general managers and corporate managers and they refuse to listen because the warranty expired. A simple $200 fix, and they refused to listen. This place doesn't even deserve one star for the amount time wasted and fake promises they make. The Room place is absolutely THE worst place to get your furniture considering the customer service and quality. We bought a sectional for our new apartment. Furniture was delivered AFTER A MONTH (way after the promise delivery date). The customer service was very rude and always made excuses. Salesman ishan was constantly late on updates of late delivery. First they said the Chinese New Year is interfering with the completion of order!!! Then they said their having trouble with the fabric!!! Finally nick ("manager") took charge of the whole situation and promised to knock of part of delivery charges after the delivery. Still haven't heard anything back even after numerous messages. At this point, we just wanted to get the sofa and be over with the whole mess. What added to our negative experience was that the Quality of the sofa was a joke! It's only been 5 days and the cushions already have big dents on them. It looks like we had them for 10 years. I'm very disappointed with the whole thing. I feel like the money we saved to buy this sofa was thrown out the window. We happened to stop by the store during their anniversary sale where SOME items were discounted 15% more. + Furniture was delivered within 3 days of our purchase. Delivery was on-time and without any hassles/problems. Thank you! + Competitive prices. We went to Macy's, Darvin's, Carson's, and Walter E. Smith. WES was the most expensive, followed by Macy's. Darvin's and Carson's almost the same price. The RoomPlace was slightly cheaper. Macy's delivery would take a month. No, thanks. We didn't see anything we liked in Carson's and Darvin's. + Like the fact that one of their staff actually contacted me regarding my review (see below) and offered any assistance if I had any questions. A+++++++++ in my book! +/- Our sales person was nice but pushy. I understand that's her job. I was able to negotiate with her, though. - Not as many selections as Darvin's. (Darvin's, I think, has the most furniture choices.) - That "fish in a tank full of sharks" feeling when you enter the place. The sales staff eye you like you're some delicious piece of meat. I do understand. That's their job so just got used to that when one enters a furniture shop. Advice: 1) The "furniture replacement plan" they sell you? Don't bother with it. For an extra $95, your couch will be repaired/replaced if it has a stain or a rip on it. If you don't use it for 5 years, you will get that $95 back in STORE CREDIT (not in cash) so you can use it towards buying a new furniture in the Room Place. Think about it. It's their way of getting you to go back to the store. Also, how sure are you the business will be there in 5 years? If you don't remember this in 5 years, how sure are you the business will actually contact you to remind you that you have this $95 store credit you haven't used? My husband and I declined it at first. Sorry, I can smell an "upsell" from a mile away. Our sale's person significantly reduced that "furniture replacement plan" to which we said ok. I figured our sale's person gets commission based on the replacement plan she sold --- not on the furniture sold. The whole time she was calculating our discount, she was saying how much money she was was saving us and how much discount we were getting. Guilt trip maybe? I just answered: Yes, that's the way we want it. 2) If you can pay in full, please do. Since we had good credit, they offered us a 0% credit, same as cash if we paid monthly. Looks attractive right? However, they check your credit along with that offer. Every credit score check lowers your credit score. So, I said no. Our sales person tried to convince us that 0% meant 0%. We still declined the offer. 3) I made sure ot bring my own pen, paper, and calculator to double check all calculations and numbers she was giving us. Updating this review, because I've found that this place isn't as great as I first thought. Their furniture isn't the best quality, I've had them here every Wednesday for four weeks either replacing or trying to fix defective pieces that I purchased. I spent over $5000. I'm still waiting to hear about my cocktail table (the second one), first one had scratches all over it, which they had better replace again. To call them, it takes forever for someone in customer service or delivery to answer. Better rethink purchasing from the Room Place and explore your other furniture store options. Not too pleased with the amount of time I've wasted dealing with all of these issues. However, I still love what my rooms look like with the new furniture. Buyer beware!! read more

I recently purchased a sofa, a mattress and a bedroom set from the Roomplace and spent over 5000 dollars. They have good quality and affordable furniture but the customer service is one of the worst I have ever seen. If you are calling them be prepared to stay at least 30 min on the line before you can talk to anyone. Their representatives are totally useless and not able to help with anything. First they messed up my delivery date and even after I called them 3 times, they still got it wrong. I had to finally talk to the store manager to get it fixed and still my order had to be split in 2 separate deliveries since they did not have everything in store regardless that I paid all my furniture weeks in advance. I received the first one again in 2 parts, they had one truck deliver my sofa in the morning and another one delivered my mattress in the evening. I am still waiting on the bedroom set to come next week. I live in a condo association so I had to present the certificate of insurance of their delivery company so I again called them to request it. It has been now 5 days that I have been calling them and still they did not send it to me. Every time I call they say they will email it to me in 24 hours and still nothing. Apparently they use a different delivery company every time and cannot figure out which one they used for mine. I am not sure they even have an insurance. Now I have issues with the HOA in my building because of them. I have one more delivery next week which my HOA won't approve but the Room place does not even care. Amazing experience! It was my first time buying furniture and everyone was so very helpful. We were able to ask as many questions as we needed to, try stuff out and wander at leisure. Gil was super helpful especially when it came to finding something that would fit in our small living room but would still be confortable and luxurious. I absolutely plan to go back for all my furniture nreds. The prices are reasonable and the quality is great. Warranty options are awesome too. Room place just wants to get your money and not provide the service that promised!! We bought a bed room set in 2010 from THE ROOM PLACE. Now the one of railing on the bed side has couple of wood chips coming off. I called warranty department something called Guardian and spoke with the lady to file a claim. Warranty department is a joke. Representative at warranty department asked all sorts of questions like, where is the wood chip located, on the top or the bottom, if you face the bed what side is it on, how many are there, how long are there (are you kidding me.. do you want me to measure how long the wood chips are??)... I said I don't know how it happened but I have warranty and if you can come and fix it. For godness' sake, it is just wood chips. I can understand if they want the location of wood chip but how long is it?? after I gave all the information, the rep said, do you want to talk to your husband and family to find out how it happened? I am like it's just wood chips.. I dont remember a reason. Please send somebody to come and fix it.. rep said since you don't have specific reason, we will not process your claim. I said but it's just wood chips are you kiidng me.. warranty rep said.. if you don't listen to me then I will hang up on you. I said let me talk to your manager and rep said, that's not even an option. She was talking to me like she is doing a favor to me.... I hate this place!! DON'T EVER BUY FURNITURE FROM ANY OF ROOM PLACE.. BAD QUALITY AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! IF I CAN FILE A CASE AGAINST WARRANTY COMPANY AND ROOM PLACE I WOULD IN A HEART BEAT. It was a bad experience. We went there to buy a recliner sofa. The person who was showing us the sofa showed one with power recliner and the price was $999 and he told us that the sofa comes with the power recliner. We liked the sofa ,bought it and trusted the person , missed to check the receipt. They shipped us the sofa which does not have the recliner. When we called them they told Mistake by the warehouse, called back again and told us you should check the receipt. Why the hell your representative told us it will have power recliner. If there is anything mismatch between what you are showing to customer and what you are selling you should make clear. NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE read more
