This was one of our favorite places in Key West...it definitely beckoned another visit on our short stay. From its eccentric, but tasteful decor to the welcoming bartender/chef, Annette, this upscale bar is more than it's delicious pours and appetizers. Clientele were friendly, lively and like The Roost's staff, all entertaining storytellers. Learned a little of Key West's history, found a treasure of an Irish whiskey that we added (with relish) to our home bar and got great dining recommendations. This place was great!! We were looking to stock up our fridge when we got to town and thought what a better place to grab a drink as well. We got the blowin smoke up your glass which my bf loved and I got the mule.. it was definitely one of the best mule drinks I've ever had, and I have definitely had them all over the country. The bartender was very friendly and personable. We we're torn between buying 2 bottles on the shelf and he let us taste one so that we could make a better decision on what to buy. Will definitely make this a regular place to visit every time we come down. read more

Great dark well air-conditioned bar off of the tourist main drag. They brew their own ginger beer! So a Moscow Mule is a must! Small and cozy, great for evening drinks or to hide away during afternoon heat and humidity. read more

I regret having to write this review because I generally like The Roost and especially Annette who is so pleasant and charming. As locals, we like to bring our out of town guests to bars and restaurants where we think they will enjoy the drinks and the service, which The Roost used to be. The man who was bartending last night one of the rudest bartenders we have ever had in the four years we have been living in Key West. He treated us like we were stupid, with snarky unnecessarily sarcastic comments. Who needs to put up with that kind of treatment from a bartender? We finished our drinks (which were mediocre at best), paid our tab (which was over priced), and walked out of The Roost for the last time. This makes me sad because it had previously been a pretty nice place. read more

We found the Roost on the 2nd night of our stay in KW. We went in, not expecting anything special, and were quickly welcomed in. Annette was great and made better drinks! Next thing we know, Sojo is talking to us like we were old friends. On our 2nd visit, Sojo was now keeping us company, as well as our bartender. On our 3rd night, we met Trish and treated just as well as we'd been treated the previous 2 nights. Next thing we knew, Sojo and Annette were there and treating us like family. We hated to leave. The Roost is a beautiful bar, very atmospheric and tasteful. I went there in the past with friends and was a taken care by Sojo (I hope I spelled it right) who is very competent and friendly, and always had a good time. Yesterday I sat there for a drink, after spending the day immersed in paperwork, hoping my husband would join me. Sojo wasn't there, Annette was. When I entered, she was having a personal conversation with somebody, which carried on for at least 10 minutes and she didn't even say hi. I almost left, which I should have. I ordered an Old Fashioned and I asked for a good Bourbon. Annette made some stilted conversation with me and when she heard I'm from Miami she said 'Such a rude town' and other racist tinged comments ('Yeah, but I don't speak Spanish','I don't like South America') . Nice. Aside from that, my drink tasted like gasoline. I didn't complain because I hate to be difficult, but that woman there's no winning. The Bourbon wasn't good. It gave me a stomach ache and a headache that lasted for hours and prevented from sleeping and allergy. I think I will give the Roost another chance, because it is one of the nicest bars in Key West, but yesterday was a bust. read more

Great little bar off the strip. Bartenders are wonderful and really take the time to make you feel welcome while still being entertaining. Mixed drinks are wonderful and it was apparent with the three bartenders that we had on three separate nights, that they all took great pride in their craft and came up with wonderful cocktails that they created.
