The cocktails and the mixology are inspired! The food, on the other hand, is not my idea of great. Warm olives were scalding hot, and buried in so much balsamic glaze and blue cheese that there was no point in putting olives in there. The service was slow and sporadic. The vegan burger was tasty but so mushy most of the "burger" ended up on the plate and not part of the sandwich. It's a nice place to go for a drink (good ambiance) but I wouldn't even recommend the tapas from the VERY limited menu. So just to qualify, it's a good place. Absolutely amazing! The cocktails are utter and the food is so delicious and fresh. They have an amazing patio space. The ambiance is like an upscale treehouse. Hand drawn menus very clever and cute names for dishes and drinks. Service was wonderful. Honestly one of the best restaurants I've been to in some time. Highly recommend. What a lovely, but very small, hidden gem. The Roost is located upstairs from what also looked like a tasty milkshake shop and is quite small. When I called to make a reservation (only taken between 5-7pm) the staff member told me they only have 18 seats so it is very "cozy". There were 3 of us and we ended up sitting at the bar, which was actually just fine for us. Since the Roost is renounced for their house cocktails, it was actually quite entertaining to be able to watch the bartender make the cocktails, see the different glasses and cups they had for each drink and just get to know the staff more. With that said, the Roost's cocktail menu is so fun and there were so many choices, including mocktails, that it was actually difficult to choose drinks. I think in total we tried maybe 5 of them and they were all phenomenal. For food, we ordered a couple of different things. We had the vegan cheese platter - oh yeah, this place has a large vegan/vegetarian friendly menu - some baos or steamed buns and the scallop risotto. I want to say my favorite were actually the steamed buns - nice and fluffy and warm and full of flavor. This place was such a nice little treat during our time in Winnipeg and I would imagine that, if I lived in Winnipeg, it would quickly become one of my go to places for a date or a night out with a friend. Love this little hole in the wall, cozy cocktail lounge with a great patio. The ambiance was cool, a little dark but the mood was light. We came on a Monday and it was perfect, sat at the bar for a cocktail then moved to a larger table to have our shareable appys. The food was great and portion sizes were perfect. Love this cool and unpretentious lounge that serves up stiff, inventive cocktails with a surprisingly delectable small plates menu on Corydon. It's been years since I've been able to enjoy a cool place that actually serves up good food on the Corydon strip. This place is located on the second floor of what seems like some person's former apartment but it has been transformed into a cozy bar lounge area with a cave like bar area that seats about 10 people and then 3 tables with some banquettes that could seat another 12 people if you squish them a bit. I was really here for the cocktails but ended up loving the food even more and I wasn't even planning on eating. I'll start with the food - there's 11 items on the small plates menu that's cutely handwritten ranging from $4-$14 with most around $10-$12 per plate. Roast duck breast with pomegranate syrup, burn grapefruit and candied pecans ($14) was the only dish I wouldn't have again as leaned too sweet with the pomegranate syrup and the candied pecans. The duck breast skin could have been more crispy but the duck breast was tender. Braised oxtail ($12) - luscious whipped potatoes with a kick ass pickled shallots that paired so well with the mustard seeds, the sauce and the savoury oxtail. I would have this again and again. The Kentucky Fried Rabbit ($7) were three fried rabbit balls that looked like risotto balls initially to me, I was expecting more like mini fried chicken except it's rabbit. Anyhow they were delicious with the coconut cilantro sambal and maple sriracha. There was a nice play of sweet and spicy though definitely not that spicy. Another great dish. The cocktail I had was a special and I can't remember what was in it except for rye, cinnamon and whipped egg whites but it was a stiff drink! It was $12 but you get a nice dose of alcohol and it was a generous amount. There's a lot of craft cocktails to select from so take your time looking at the menu or ask the very friendly servers what they would recommend. Loved the vibe as this place had a wide spectrum of people chilling there throughout the night. My new favourite hangout. They also have a roof top bar (small but cozy) like your friend's apartment balcony but slightly bigger. read more

Exceptional find. In Winnipeg for a couple days and found Roost through Yelp. Music, food and beverages are fantastic. I had the tomato salad to start and it was very very good. Pork hocks with finger slaw for main course was quite possibly the best pork entree I've eaten in a restaurant. We went during happy hour (4-6PM) and ordered a cocktail bowl to share as well as a couple of small plates to share. I think without the happy hour special this place would be a bit on the pricier side but with the specials the pricing is just right. Now onto the drinks and food! We ordered the Bramble Magic which is gin, chassis, st germaine, and lime. It was the perfect summer patio drink being light and refreshing. However it was a bit weak for my friend. For food we had the pork hock with corn bread which is amazing - the pork hock was tender and well seasoned and I would probably go back again and again just for the pork hock. The corn bread a bit on the dry side. The jerk chicken was extremely juicy and is probs my second favourite. The salmon was deep fried and maybe a bit too greasy, however it balanced well with the quinoa salad. Overall This is one of my favourite roof top patios in Winnipeg and it is a place I wouldn't mind coming back again and again. read more

first time visiting this place with my partner as we had strolled through corydon avenue on a summer weekend evening. the resthaurant is very small and dark, not aplace id recommend coming with a large group. My partner and I spent an excess amount of time waitin to be served meanwhile other patrons who had arrived after had got their food before us. my wife has celiac and had ordered only gluten free items although her symptoms seemed to have impacted her after we arrived from home. in our experiences this is due to restaurants enthusastiucally adertising "gluten free" items on their menu out of trendiness, with contamination constantly happening but never causing serious issues due to the guests eating out gluten free not because of medical problems but due to preference. it is important that if restaurants claim to be gluten free items that they take it VERY seriusly otherwise people with true gluten intolerance suffer. will not be returning. read more

some friends and I were there a while ago for some food and drinks. Our server was fantastic, Funny, charming, attentive. She checked in with us often and explained things well. After a couple of rounds we paid our bill. However we sat there chatting for a while and decided to get more drinks. After trying to catch our servers eye (or the bartender) withuot success we called out to her. However since we did not know her name we referenced her tattoo, which we had talked about with her earlier. Her head popped up and she came over. She did not seem offended and we joked about not remembering her name. The bartender however felt differently. She called us f***ing assholes to someone else at the bar. My one friend heard her and challenged her on it. At first she denied it, then admitted she called us f***ing assholes. Why would you say that she was asked. She said she did not like people calling for her servers and that they have names. Never mind that she had no idea of our great evening with our server or the context for why we referenced her tattoo. She heard something and decided to call her customers f***ing assholes. And when one of those f***ing assholes challenged her on it she could not really explain why and gave a half-assed apology. I am not sure if this blonde bartender owns the bar or not, but she was definitely the proprietor that evening and if that is how they think they can treat their customers, well we can go buy $14 cocktails elsewhere. I felt badly for out server, again she was excellent. We had already tipped heavily and would have again on the next round. However after being called f***ing assholes we took our business elsewhere. Was very excited to try this new place while I am in town as I have heard great things. Was told at the door (8 pm) that they were at capacity and to try a different day. Not their fault that they were so busy (it was Friday night) but if I were you I would not plan your night around this place as they fill up quick and there is no waiting list. I mean seriously, could this place be any more magical!? Walking up the stairs to The Roost you have just seconds to ponder, "am I cool enough for a place with stairs?" "Am I accidentally walking into someone's home?" "Will I fit in here, I'm more of a bungalow guy?" All of your stair anxiety will be shattered once turning the corner and seeing your bright bartender, Elsa. The bar she stands behind is sheek and modern but her potions, dishes and flavours seem as if they have been woven together by the careful fingers of old wise women. A kind note on their menu, and a couple of all-inclusive signs on their bathrooms quickly enforce that not only are you are welcome here, but you are safe here. The food and drinks are highly above average in quality. So much so, that they taste like they've been made with a dash of love. The Roost is a feast for the senses and an ease for the mind.
