Been coming here for many years - my family lives in the area. Had the Longhorn Rib Steak and it was awesome. Caesar Salad and a glass of Cab and it was a perfect meal. My wife had the Haddock and said it was really good and that the home made tartar sauce set it off perfectly. Great staff and service in a clean and safe setting. So good and so happy to see a 60+ year old Winnipeg family business doing so well in these tough times. You probably haven't treated yourself to a fine steak in a while. The place during the day is home to grouchy vibes. The older people seem used to it but I am not sure. The free popcorn is not that bad. I thought it was kind of nice but the greasy butter did seem to upset my stomach. My friend ordered the nacho chips and they were pretty delicious but they also seemed greasy and made my stomach flip a bit. I kind of think that someone should proceed with caution when eating here if they don't know the restaurant well. It would be nice for the menu to list what kind of oils are used to cook things etc. read more

Ordered the ribs. When the ribs finally came, my ribs were cold. They apologized and said they'd get me "a new rack" right away! They came back 15 minutes later with my old rack of ribs... they just threw it in the microwave. I called them on it, and they ignored me and our table until they brought the bill. Always very friendly service with a ton of TVs to watch in the bar area. If you have a favourite channel just ask! I had to go for the Paparazzi burger. Very tasty and an excellent bun. For me I could have had more jalapenos; nonetheless the meat was flavourful, nicely cooked and tender. The chipotle mayo is very subtle and I was hoping for more kick. Stopped in for a late lunch today.One of the specials was Memphis style ribs,The Heights is legendary for its ribs so l ordered them.l started off with a bowl of beef/ barley soup is what great,l would like to mention most soups in restaurants are served Luke warm at best which l hate.The soup was real hot which was delightful.The ribs were served with a small portion of coleslaw which l would say was average,hard to find a good coleslaw anymore. The fries were one of the best restaurant fries l have had.Now for the main course,the rib sauce was served on the side,why l don't know,it was definitely bottled,and personally not my favorite. The ribs themselves were delicious, a very large serving and were tender and fell off the bone.The server was very attentive and friendly.I have eaten at the Heights numerous times and never had a bad meal and have had most of the menu.On the lunch menu which l was there for their burgers are tops and they have an excellent clubhouse. I know this establishment is a St.James mainstay for years but the whole decor of the restaurant is outdated.Please spend some money and spruce the place up,it's blah and dumb As for the food,my go to meal if you can believe it 7a the liver and onions,hard to find this dish in any restaurant, but they do a great job.Their soups of the day are tasty. The French pea soup is delicous,when its available.They are noted for their ribs,l enjoy them and don't think people would be disappointed ordering them.Lunch wise their burgers ate great ,large and nicely put together and prepared.Not a fan of paying over $20 for one with fries.Overall l have never had a poor meal,but it 8s not one of my go to places.One last thing the service is great. read more

We recently went to Silver Heights for our anniversary (July 27) and my husband ordered the full rack of ribs which he enjoyed; yet he only got one rack on his plate. I ordered the Prime Rib and over half of it I couldn't eat as it was all fat! We had to wait 20 minutes for a server . . . she was busy talking to someone . . . that was more important. Finally, a nice young man served us. Overall, it was a nice evening; I just wish my prime rib didn't end up going home for the dog to enoy. read more

We were at Silver Height Feb. 13 2024 and had the Valentine meal to choose from. The prawns appetizer was superb so we ordered another! The Caesar salad was crispy and fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The Lobster ravioli was very well prepared and presentation was stunning. Delicious! Because it was my birthday on the 14th, Silver Heights gave me a free Chocolate Sensation which was a great way to end a lovely meal. Our server was very attentive and the tables are spaced apart nicely so you're not sitting on top of one another. I would highly recommend Silver Heights! read more

Lounge side busy, hockey night Server is very nice, good start, feels like an old and well established place. Cliental just keeps coming back, and has for what appears to be forever, they know what they want, and get it. Simple "home" cooked food. More of a social place, play the local Winnipeg Jets games, and enjoy a night out. Got my fill of ribs and bake potato, and started with a normal(or not so normal these days) green salad, regular head lettuce radishes, celery. No dandelion leaves(arugula). Call me old fashioned. Price isn't so bad, mind you I didn't drink anything. Only thing I'd say negative, light on the BBQ sauce. But that's not a bad thing for me these days. read more

Here's my evening, after you get through the cloud of cigarette smoke from the smokers that stand around the entrance, sat in the dining room ( my wife was with me) service was good friendly staff, I had the half order with mashed potatoes (tasted and had the consistency of instant mash potatoes... sad. Veggies weren't bad, now the ribs World famous.... nay nay...over cooked, really fatty.... sauce was not that great, reminded me of kraft bbq sauce. Friends kept telling us to try it as they said it was great. That was not our experience. We had a reservation for the dining room. First off it's like sitting on a train as it's so cramped and the main door is located right close to the main entrance so everytime the door opened it was freezing in the boxcar. Food was overpriced and mediocre at best. My wife had the famous ribs and they were nothing special. I had the French opinion soup and it was large chunks of onion and 7 dollars and was not flavourful at all. Loads of seafood dishes if your into that. And apparently the dining room menu is different from the bar side that was never offered to us. I would not waste your money trying this place there are plenty of decently priced good places in the area. read more

I went here on a Thursday evening for dinner. I had the haddock fish and chips. The portions were huge! I was only able to eat half, and I tend to eat a lot. The haddock's batter was yummy and fried perfectly so it wasn't greasy. The ambiance in the bar is good, and the people are super friendly. I hung around for drinks and made new friends. Went in for a quick business lunch. Service was fantastic. They accepted AMEX, which is a plus on the prairies :) Sat in the lounge, at a lopsided table and ordered the lunch chicken sandwich special. The ceaser salad was great, but chicken sandwich was average, and I'm pretty sure the cheese slice was... well, you know the kind that come out of plastic. I'm not disagreeing it is a great family restaurant, just that awesome 5/5 staff can only take a place so far. Another great dinner at silver heights! The best Cesar salad in winnipeg! The chicken breast with lemon sauce bacon and onions was more then worthy of a full time spot on the menu. Chicken was tender and juicy bacon was cooked crisp and the onions were perfect as well. The lemon sauce was perfect and the dish was served with just the right amount. Recently Went to Silver heights June 25th 2016. We had reservations at 6 pm for a friends going away dinner and had about 20 people there. Its was my third or forth time eating there and I was once again diissapointed. Felt it was about time I posted a review. The service from the 2 waitresses was decent although they seemed very hard to find during our dinner to register any questions or concerns. The salad i had was quite bare. Could have used some cucumbers, tomatoes or peppers at least. Dressing was store bought. I would have had the baked potato soup but they had run out. (on a Saturday at 6pm?) Waitress recommended the Ribs. $30 for a whole rack. Chose the bbq sauce. Came with a small portion of overcooked vegetables. (1 piece of cauliflower , some celery and some other soft vegetable) They appeared with a sparse amount of sauce. The first two ribs were ok but became SUPER dry....even visibly. I stopped eating them and spent 10 minutes trying to flag down a waitress. She said she would see what she should do. As she did not return for 15-20 minutes I thought they would be returning with a fresh amount of the half of a rack I had not eaten which would have been "ok" Instead she returned (not the manager) to say the manager would "take care of it" Well, i received a $2 off my $74 bill. The price of a half rack is $24 a full rack is $30. The waitress dropped off the bill and then disappeared. No one asked if we enjoyed our meal. The price for value is NOT good for portion size or quality and management does not seem to care enough to even deal with customers directly. The decor is also VERY dated for that kind of price point as well. May go back for a beverage in their lounge but certainly NOT to eat. What a shame. read more

Old time charm; great food and excellent service! Went for a work lunch and was a bit sceptical. I had the omelette and substituted the starch for a salad. Excellent service and the food was great. Salad was fresh and quick to arrive! Served with choice dressing; or vinegar and olive oil. Omelet was very, very good and was very apparent it was made with fresh veg and cracked eggs. Coffee was complimentary with the meal and the cup never went empty. They have been around for a while for a reason! Check out the menu online. We placed an order through a third party for Silver Heights about a month ago. There was a mixup, with which we received about a third of our order. Within minutes of contact, the restaurant remade our entire order and delivered it free of charge, also including a gift card -- entirely unnecessary, mistakes do happen, but a noble gesture! The food is well priced, flavourful and varied. Excellent bang for your buck and incredibly good ribs. The Heights used to be our go-to after hockey games and I've always enjoyed spending time in the restaurant for its great service and comfortable ambience. read more

Great place for lunch. Had the 1/2 rib special which were tender and saucy. As I didn't want the starch side (potato, fries or rice) I was able to substitute additional Caesar salad. My dining companion had the Liver and Onions which was a huge portion. Went midweek and the restaurant was packed. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table and food came fast. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff. The restaurant was clean and inviting. We ordered the special which was an open faced sandwich, the Bistro Event or something like that. It was fantastic and for 10 bucks... man you can't eat for that cheap even at McD's. Our server was engaging but not overmuch. We had a chance to meet the owner Tony and it is clear to see why this restaurant is so successful. Hands on management, great food and a warm environment. I used to be a waitress here, and I have since moved away, and Silver Heights has been by far my favourite job. The kindness and thoughtfulness of service is all genuine. The staff and managers really do care about each guest and the quality of the experience. It was so easy to talk about and recommend menu items, because their food is all amazing. From ribs and steaks, to chicken and seafood, salads and pastas, everything the menu has to offer is fantastic. They've got some of the best specials I have seen in Winnipeg, and in any restaurant I have worked at. Tony and the rest of the management staff have created a great dining and working environment, and I am so happy I had the chance to be a part of their team. I sincerely recommend you go out and try this restaurant. Well we went there for a beer and a snack. So we ordered a combo appetizer plate. Needless to say service and was excellent however our chicken fingers were raw. Thank god I saw the uncooked finger before I ate it as I suffer from ibs. But what the bad thing was when we told them our food was raw they took it immediately and brought it back refried. This restaurant has been a staple of the neighbourhood for decades. Diner by day, watering hole by night. I went for lunch and everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere could be summed up as average. There's nothing about Silver Heights that's particularly a turn off, but there's nothing about it that makes me want to hurry back either. read more

Definitely the best restaurant in St. James and quite possibly the city. Family owned for over 50 years, there is a reason it's still here. Their ribs are incredible, maybe only beaten by their inventive dishes made in house by an amazing kitchen staff. First visit to this restaurant. Staff were above standard. Very courteous and professional and friendly. Restaurant is very clean ...simple but tasteful decor. Food was good. Some dishes even great. What I noticed is chef has not over salted everything. French onion soup was good. Ribs as well. All in all one of the better restaurants in winnipeg. read more
