Students are from all age groups, genders, and backgrounds. Some classes have elementary kids and seniors practicing in one room! Needless to say the teachers are wonderful- they have a wealth of knowledge about human anatomy and the broader, deeper traditions that inform modern-day yoga. Each teacher has their unique interpretation and approach. Honestly, I learn something new in every class, and feel happier, calmer as I walk out. Its super close to where I am. This past Tuesday night, I took a hot pilates class with Jay Houston and that class was packed like sardines. There was probably 60 people in the class and it was a very hard class. Im in decent shape and man this class was really testing me. And it was beyond hot. Im glad I got thru it but not sure I wanna take this class on the regular. I just no longer feel like thats what my body needs. Tonight, I took a Flext class with Scarlett Salem and wow this class was soooo good and definitely my speed. It was heated and we did a lot of really great hip and low back stretches that I love and need. Instructor was very good, very clear and I enjoyed every minute of this class! 10/10! The heat was set just right and I still sweated a lot but also got in a really deep stretch session but not to the point where I felt it was overwhelming. The class offerings are perfect timing for working professionals and the location is convenient and extremely clean. I honestly wasn't sure how I'd feel about sweating in 105 degrees for an hour, but it has been a transformative and life changing experience. I feel more confident, peaceful, and overall my mood is much more even. I find myself going as much as possible and relishing in the heated classroom. I have never walked away from classes feeling so rejuvenated after working so hard and each little improvement to my postures makes me feel over the moon. I want to sincerely thank Bikram Yoga Rockville for inviting me into the community and becoming a truly integral part of my well-being. The awesome facilities, the comraderie, and the variety of classes and teachers keep me coming back year after year! The teachers get to know you and genuinely care about your success and health. They keep things fresh with fun themes, music, and pop-up events and workshops, but they also offer traditional posture classes throughout the week if that's your vibe too. Or, you can do them ALL. (all is good!) My best physical self and mental health always includes frequent classes at Bikram Yoga Rockville. I come here right after work as I head north on 270--you can see it from traffic! I loved this class, this teacher, the other students, and the setting!…read more My friend Rita recommended Shelly's "gentle yoga" classes to me. I had only a short time to practice before leaving the area. However, in 5 one-hour-and-a-half sessions, I experienced the beginnings of a deep release in both body and mind. It was a truly wonderful (incremental) experience. I was very sorry to have to leave. Shelly is very organized, very pedantic. She has the knack of being so in such an accepting but no-nonsense manner --and with such good will-- that working on a pose with her (and the breathing associated with it) happens with absolutely no angst, no stress. This ensures growth and progress. Shelly's classes were well-thought-out, very organized --- a progression from easy stretches to somewhat more difficult abs, leg, and foot and toe work, on to balance poses and finally to a total body stretch that is followed by deep relaxation at the end of each session. Shelly is a patient but eagle-eyed instructor. . Her organized approach in each session (which I understand evolve as students assimilate the poses) allowed me to develop a practice I could take with me when I left. (A great gift!) I highly recommend the meditative ambiance of the environment, the non-intrusive acceptance and goodwill of the other students and the personal attention to the pose's form and breathing requirements as taught by Shelly.
