My dad and I have been using the Rubber Room since 1999, they have always done a stellar job on soles, rands, approach shoes, all of it. They even stitched the delaminating tongues on my Scarpas when I asked nicely. 5/5, can't say enough good things about them. I dropped of a pair of TerraFlex II Xero hiking shoes to be resoled with dot rubber. I thought there might be a risk taking brand new $120 shoes and putting $70 more in. In less than 8 weeks, I opened there shipping box and took my 1st look. I was instantly pleased with this new dot rubber. The quality of there work is flawless. By far the best peak ticking shoes I have ever had or seen. They hold grip on everything even wet rock. My 1st road test went so good my feet had no pain after day hiking Mt Russell. I'm never hiking with any other soul. My foot is size 15 and there is no good choices out there. Prefect for flat pedal mountain biking. I'm sending four more pairs out for the family. I was climbing in the Sierra's and was excited to try the famed Rubber Room, and dropped the shoes off for a half-sole and rands. Staff was friendly and I enjoyed hearing the story about the lady with the whip. It took months to get the shoes back, but I have a lot of shoes so it wasn't that big a deal. The shoes looked good when they arrived, but after about 4 months of intermittent climbing 2-3 times a week (not consecutive due covid closures and several injuries) the soles started peeling off in multiple places, even the sides that don't see a lot of friction, and the left rand split. I need to add that I switch out my shoes within each climbing session. These are my warm-up shoes, used primarily at the gym, so they saw 4-5 cracks max (one outdoor trip of mostly slab). I have other pairs for various styles of climbing that I use after I warm up. I've done at least a dozen resoles on various shoes in my 26 years of climbing, and I've never had one go bad like this. With my shoe rotation routine, and good care, it typically takes a few years for them to show wear enough to need another resole. I still climb in my circa '90s Boreal's and La Sportiva's that I wore learning to climb in Joshua Tree, both in good condition after a few resoles. I tried calling the Rubber Room several times, and the phone was busy every time I called. Disappointed, I looked for a contact form on the website to no avail. When Yelp popped up I saw that other customers were having the same problem, and learning that this wasn't a stand-alone incident, I'm giving up on the Rubber Room. Do not use this place for resoling. The pair I sent in started separating at the toe after a few climbs. Because it was after their "no questions asked" warranty of three months (uh okay no one could climb due to the COVID-19 shutdown), they would not fix them. Oh but wait, they offered us the honor the pay them again at 50% off for a resole. Yeah okay, let me pay you more money for your mistake. There are a ton of better places to send your shoes, so skip this place. I've used 3 other options and they were faster, cheaper/same price, and their soles didn't start falling off after a few climbs. read more

Had a weird ridge in the heel of a pair of La Sportiva hiking boots. Would have just returned them, but they had no more in my size and I love these boots. I looked on their website, and it was easy to just fill out their form and mail my shoes in. The site said it would be a 6 week turnaround, and it was exactly that. I had one pair of Evolv Shamans with a hole blown in one rand, and Evolv Skwamas that just needed a half resole. The quality of work was exactly as expected, and prices were reasonable compared to every other resoler. I chose to do my shoes with Stealth Onyxx rubber, and they had a variety of rubber to choose from. The communication was good - I had to change the delivery address, and they took care of it. Just got the shots back and they did am amazing job. The shoes look immaculate and did a really clean job in my resoles. I had 3 pairs done mythos, quantums, and muiras. I had special requests for each pair and they came out better than new. I say that because i prefer 5.10 rubber over vibram rubber and the shoes are already broken in. The process took about 2.5 weeks after i dropped them off. since i was in bishop for a bouldering trip, it made it easier than shipping directly. Shipped to me priority and got it one day after completion. I can't wait for joshua tree this weekend to try these on real rock. Props to rubber room for excellent quality. read more

Totally love my resoles, and the price is great. You can either mail your shoes to them (check their website) or drop them off. I'm always through Bishop on a Sunday, and I've left mine across the road at Wilson's. Not comfortable leaving your credit card information out for anyone? (who can blame you?) It's not a problem because they'll call you for that information. Same with sending them in the mail. They called me on a Tuesday, after having picked mine up from Wilson's, and I had them back the next week delivered to my doorstep for $7. I had done lots of resoles with the Rubber Room in the past and always had good results. Then an old injury to my big toe (hallux rigidus) starting causing me incredible pain when climbing. I stopped by and talked to Tony. He took time out of his super busy day to talk to me about the issue and offered to try out a solution putting a carbon plate in the shoe. I was worried that the outcome would be some frankenstein mess. Instead he sent me back an incredibly well-crafted, super solid shoe with the carbon plate embedded in the sole that allowed me to get back to climbing trad. It was a complete game changer for me and all because the team there has the skills to get it done and really genuinely cares about the people they serve. Bring your old climbing shoes to Bishop and drop them off at the Rubber Room to save on shipping costs. They have a fine selection of rubber to choose from, but I prefer Five Ten Stealth Onyx. I have had my Galileo's resoled twice and my Anasazi Slippers once. Both looked flawless after the resole and felt great. I've also gotten rand repair as well. Be careful not to wear your shoes out too much...if the hole in the rand is too large (like my old Anasazi Velcros), they will not be able to resole them. The hours vary because the workers are all pretty laid back and casual. Saturday morning is perfect if you're from out of town. Hit up Rubber Room, Wilson's, and then Schatt's before you head to the crag. The store is a little hard to find unless you've been there before. They don't have a big sign or anything, but I think there's a small sign on their glass door or window. If they're closed, you can always drop off shoes across the street at Wilson's, or they will even leave shoes there to pick up if you can't make it during business hours. It's obvious when you walk in that people send shoes here from all over the world. There is *always* a huge pile of boxes, bags, etc. from people sending their shoes here. read more

I would not trust any pair of my rock shoes in any one else's hands. I haven't bought new shoes for years, because RR does such a fine job of resoling. I have had three different pairs of shoes receive rand repair as well from these guys and it is an invisible repair. The fit of the shoes has always been consistent post repair. I can't say enough about the quality of their repair. I've had five different pairs of shoes repaired multiple times, with nary a delamination. Great stickers too. read more

I really hate to leave a negative review because the guys working there were nice and even re-did my shoes once after I showed them what happened.. Anyways here it goes; I've resoled here 3 times, really wanting to like it and give them another chance, but every single time the resole fell apart after ONE week. The resoled rubber comes apart like a mouth trying to open, making the shoes useless. The last straw for me was when I sent shoes in, they told me would take 3 weeks, and it took more than 7 weeks. I mailed my husband's climbing shoes because it was recommended by a friend who used them before. I mailed them out October 2011. Five months later I contacted the owner and spoke to him on the phone, who explained that he could not fix them. I asked whether he was ever planning to contact me to let me know, and he chuckled (out of embarrassment I presumed) and said he should have and has my paper work with my contact information. This is the poorest customer service I have experienced by far from any kind of company. It's good that you still have business considering the economy, but I suspect there is a great deal of complacency and lack of care in the service you provide to your customers. This is one of the few places that I didn't find through Yelp, but it was actually recommended to me by a friend who has been a climber for almost 10 years. After giving them a try and looking up their Yelp listing, I am surprised, that it isn't bursting with 5 star ratings. -- Their store certainly bursts with shoes from trusting and satisfied customers, that keep sending in pair after pair -- despite a 3+ week wait! I dropped by their store a couple of weeks ago b/c I was in the area to do some climbing and thought, I take the opportunity to drop off my Muiras for a resole. The guy at the front was super friendly and easygoing. He not only fixed the rubber on my OTHER climbing shoes right on the spot, but he also did it free of charge! The rubber had started to peel off the leather on several spots and he glued it back on. All it cost me was 15 minutes out of my time to let the glue dry. That's pretty great customer service! As for my Muiras. I have had them back for a couple of weeks now and have put them to the test extensively. They look and feel great! The first two climbing sessions felt a little stiffer than I was used to, but it went back to normal in no time; just with better traction. It's like I turned back the time on my climbing shoes. I had my Evolv Pontas resoled here. The rubber was great and the workmanship looked excellent. Unfortunately after climbing about 10 days on them, the rubber on the top side of the toe box along with the rubber on the sole started to come unglued. I was in bishop and stopped in to see if there was anything they could do to help me with my problem. I spoke with the only person in the shop at the time (he happened to be the owner) and he told me that they would fix them and send them back to me for free. When I got them back, to my surprise, they completely resoled my shoes again. I honestly was not expecting this. I only wanted them to add a bit of glue to the places that the rubber started peeling away. Due to the great customer service here, I will definitely be sending my shoes back to them! I dropped them off at Wilson's Eastside Sports on a Sunday and received my shoes in the mail 9 business days later, much sooner than expected. I was extremely happy with the repair. I didn't have the best luck using them. Very slow shipping and work, then the rubber ripped open 15mins after I put them back on. They did fix them again for free, but the shipping took longer the second time on the warranty work. After I got the shoes back they seem to be holding up well. They are good people, I think they just have more work then they can handle. read more

SUPER EXPENSIVE! after i sent 4 (FOUR!) pairs of shoes with a check for $157 they sent an email after 2 weeks saying i needed to pay 60 MORE. after another week i asked when the shoes would be finished and they said i needed to pay $80 (*EIGHTY!) more!!! total for 4 pairs of shoes- 237!!!! this is $70 more then competitors!!! i will NOT be sending or recommending anyone have shoes sent here!!! read more

I have had a dozen resoles done here over the last 15 years and have always had perfect results. I have even sent new shoes here to be resoled in order to start with stealth rubber.
