Lovely little restaurant/butcher shop in downtown Vashon Island. Ordered the corned beef sandwich with potato salad and creamy tomato soup. The sandwich was good and you could tell that high quality ingredients were used but lacked overall flavor for me. The fingerling potato salad had an update flavor with seed mustard and a thin sauce. The tomato soup had a touch of curry that was a nice touch. Service was great and personable. I will go back and try a different sandwich since they all sounded good. read more

VERY nice people working here. The food, however, has really slipped. Visiting Seattle, I recently twice patronized this establishment before writing this review, as I was thinking that maybe things were just "off," at first (my earlier visits, a couple of years ago, resulted in quite good experiences, especially for a part of the country known best for its "hearty comfort food." Sigh. Too expensive (for what is served), persistently lukewarm, and menu descriptions that are fanciful but plated (and bowled) products that are pretty much ordinary. Maybe a reboot? This is the only place I've been that has beef bacon with anything! But the entire burger was amazing! We were originally trying to go to another restaurant near by but they were closed & I'm so glad they were, because we would have missed out on this little jewel!! The ambience was really cute , and the food was great. The service was mid, I got the vibe that our server didn't want to be bothered with us. Just for context, I've worked in the food and beverage industry for years, and I understand on a busy night you want to provide great service of course, but you may also need the table to be cleared and ready for the next guests. This was not a particularly busy night.. After several attempts to get our servers attention, another server came to check on us and we were able to order our dessert. Came here for lunch and dinner. Would recommend more as a lunch spot. Highlights include the tomato soup (it sang!), bone broth (staple in our family/culture so thank you celebrities for making this trendy), sourdough brownies (can't believe this isn't more commercial), and the meat sandwiches. The only thing that missed the mark was the noodle dinner dish. Oh my god it was so bad. No flavor. I know what they were trying to do but honestly it missed the mark. Ruby Brink's menu continues to be an island staple and consistent hit or miss. They are truly their own worst enemy since the menu descriptions are almost always less appetizing and more confusing than the meal turns out to be. Example: the meat and noodle CAN be veganized and is actually really great vegan, despite all confusion. They'll always work with you to make you something fantastic, it's just not consistently labelled (please label!!!) and for those vegans (aka me) who hate making a fuss, ordering can be a bit fussy. That said, they're an island staple and now that the patio is open, it's an absolutely amazing place to spend an evening, from setting to soundtrack. My most recent meal of a falafel burger, sangria, and bowl of berries was an all around stand out - and of course I will happily be back. read more

Great location right on the Main Street of Vashon. I don't know if I would recommend this for dinner until a menu is established. The menu had a variety of food, ramen, pasta, burgers etc. and changes daily. To me this didn't create an identity for the restaurant. Everything felt a bit too pricey for what it was. My pesto came out Luke warm. There was no salt and pepper to add to it and I was charged 2$ for parmesan cheese as it needed more flavor (and not told this would be an up charge, does cheese not come with pasta any more?) I've read in other reviews that the drinks are great, so maybe that's more of the drive to come here. Lots of potential, not worth it quite yet. The food was substandard way to salty both the NY steak and the noodles would not recommend the high priced bad cooked food. The service was excellent they went out of their way to acommentate us. There drinks was ok but not as good as the Hardware store acccross the street. The the restaurant was nice but the booth benches was very hard to sit on for a long time and since the steaks took a long time to cook ( was stated on the Menu ) it would have been nice to have a more soft seating. Have to stress that the personel was excellent. We had 2x NY strip steak with rice and mushrooms also too salty, hold the meat and noodles, beef rib was ok and and potato and leak soup. I had guest so i did not speak up at the dinner but next day my guest confirmed that their dinners had been bad too. We asked for medium rare got medium and a pond of salt the chef must have an offday. For a $ 300 plus you would have expected more. read more

It was a good night for the house-made soup! We also shared the meatballs--wow!--and it made for a complete meal! My only issue (and it's not a deal-breaker--is that this is my second time our drink orders arrived after our entree. I only have good things to say about The Ruby Brink! The group there are truly culinary artists who take pride in their ability to create delicious food from seasonal foods. They run a butcher shop in the restaurant and use those locally sourced meats in their dishes. They have a wide range of vegan options. Their bar is absolutely amazing and they have a rotating menu of cocktails or will make many others upon request. The ambience is festive but not too noisy-- one may have a normal conversation. Finally the wait staff are friendly and attentive. We've been going a few times a month for over a year and always have a great experience. read more

My daughter and I took the ferry for a day trip from Tacoma to Vashon. We walked around, shopped a little then stopped to grab early dinner. The atmosphere was great. It wasn't really busy when we got there. We got seated quickly. Maya was our server. I ordered the sour dough plate as a starter. We ordered drinks. Ordered a bowl of beef & noodles. I wanted to see how it tasted before I ordered a second bowl since it was $28 a bowl. Drinks came quickly. 30 minutes into our wait Maya said "I am sorry the noodle soup is taking so long. Would you like something while waiting"? I said I ordered the sour dough plate. She said oh I never put that in I am sorry. She goes and puts it in. 40-45 minutes in the bread comes. Below average sour dough. The crust is nearly impossible to eat. I have some. My daughter finds it too hard. About 50-55 minutes in her soup comes. Big bowl. Looks and smells good. Daughter eats it, says it's average so she picks at it. I tried it and I found the beef too smoky for my taste so I decided I'll just order something else. She eats her soup. I wait for Maya. By then the place is packed. Maya never comes. Hour and a half into our stay, she walks by. I order the classic cheeseburger. 15-20 minutes goes by and still no burger. My daughter says she is starting to feel sick to her stomach. I approached another server. Asked them to pack the burger to go and to bring our check. Burger comes then the check. We leave to catch the ferry. $82 later. She was feeling sick, I was hungry and upset. So I don't think I'll be going back. How was the burger? No clue. It's still in the fridge. read more

Yay Yelp review #1111! I have visited The Ruby Brink on Vashon Island three times right before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down. There is something extraordinary and special about this culinary gem. The bar and waitstaff are ultra personable and welcoming. Aesthetically pleasing interior. Local, seasonal, and sustainable purveyors. Excellent quality bar, restaurant, and retail butcher shop. Visit #1 was a pure spontaneous visit back on 1/19/20. Somehow on this rainy day, I just kept driving south then west until I ended up in West Seattle then headed towards the Fauntleroy ferry loading area. It had been many years since my last island visit, seemed like a terrific idea for a road trip to do some exploring. Guess I'm headed to Vashon Island. Decent drive once on the island. Found nearby street parking without any issue. Sat at the bar where I was provided a menu with quite the extensive selection of food and drink. A wee bit earlyish even for me, but I did indulge in a house cocktail. I selected a little bit of this and that, love the ideas of having small plates where one can have a solid meal but with a lot of tasty variety. This was my first time to try piping hot bone broth too. Despite dining solo, I was well attended to by the bartender and other wait staff. I left fortified and did some walking around the main retail core, later drove around the island and tried two coffee indies before returning back on another ferry. A very pleasant day despite the constant downpour! Visit #2 was on 2/9/20. This time I was kindly invited to tag along with a college friend and her SO. Both had never been to Vashon Island despite living in the region for many decades. Timed the ferry just right, again no issues with street parking, and we arrived just as they opened for service. Our wait person was extremely personable and patient explaining menu items to them. I remember settling on another mug of piping hot bone broth and a hefty roast beef sandwich. Lots of water consumed and skipped dessert patting my buddha stomach. Thankfully, we also did some island exploring and lots of photo ops on such a fantastic sunny day. First time to even visit the lighthouse and see some dolphins in the sound! Visit #3 was on 3/8/20 primarily to try to forget a significant calendar date. I also had two goals on this sunny day, stop by The Ruby Brink again and hit as many indie bakeries on the island. Back again at the bar and attended to by the familiar bartender again. I did notice that their extensive menu had a refresh with new selections. Oh to have larger stomach capacity and essentially just say yes to the entire menu! Three visits to The Ruby Brink with consistent spot on service, comfortable, welcoming, and an amazing menu. It is very apparent that these folks are truly committed to high quality going above and beyond. To me, they are worth more than the five Yelp stars. What a find! We stopped by for a late lunch during our Island adventure day. If you are seeking a fresh locally sourced dining venue, with excellent service, and a strong cocktail menu then c'mon in. Like popcorn? If so, then start with their "Amish Buttered" popcorn we tore through the first bowl and plowed our way through the next. I had a wonderful local IPA and my dining companions were very pleased with their wine and ginger beer. My braised pork over rice was just wonderful with a healthy portion of pork, rice, and veggies. One of my companions could not stop raving about her bolognese with smoked pork, beef, and sausage. The smoked meat provided a very different plate as opposed to the traditional Italian bolognese. Came out to Vashon on a little adventure with my wife. When we got to the island we wanted a little snack so we came into the first restaurant we came across. Guys this places HAS SO MANY DELICIOUS SNACK OPTIONS! Although this butcher doesnt have a charcuterie board (which seems odd) you can basically create your own with all the snack options. I will say the sourdough bread we got was not as flavorful as we would have hoped it was still delicious and the cheese was also on point. I love that they use so many small local farms and have what looks like a daily menu since the date was printed on the menu. Our waitress was super helpful and kind and gave us good recommendations. And didnt make us feel rushed to leave. All in all it was a great experience and I will come back next time I am in town. read more

Wow. We stopped here before a wedding (we made it on the ferry surprisingly early) and the dip sandwich was on point. The horseradish with the meat had a tingy tanginess to it that was so good that I went back and forth with & without the dip. I also had a side salad that had cabbage in it. The crispness with that complemented the apple cider vinagarette. The people who work here were so friendly and supportive with each other too. One person offered to replenish ice for another. Was lucky enough to they were opened for lunch on July 4th, my first visit to the island. I am so glad we stopped in and enjoy delicious sandwiches and drinks to cool off. Then we decide to do a little shopping on the butcher side, the sausages were pure perfection. We bought the salt and pepper which had a subtle kick, the Kimchi which was so delicious, the buttermilk was really flavorful and finally the curry which was my most favorite, as it brought me back to NYC Indian food taste. We also got delicious pork chop and pork steaks which we grilled at home and was a buttery as a piece of beef steak. Do yourself a favor if in the island, stop here! We had the BEST meal with the BEST server (Eric O.) at Ruby Brink yesterday - usually there are one or two dishes that stand out for me at restaurants but there was literally nothing I wouldn't order again. We got a lamb noodle bowl, a "hold the meat" noodle bowl, the tinned fish plate, the blue cheese and mushroom toast (like French onion soup on toast!), the medium salad with kefir dressing, rice pudding with raspberry compote and the olive oil cake with fresh whipped cream. Everything was farm fresh and SO delicious, and the service was equally awesome - thank you to Eric for being so helpful and knowledgeable - you made our night! read more

The weather was perfect for a nicely paced dinner tonight. We enjoyed the castelvetrano olives, bokchoy and cauliflower kimchi, bean salad and pickled hedgehog mushroom toast as starters with an IPA. The bean salad and mushroom toast were our two favorites. I love fresh cheese, but the mushrooms were so tasty I feel the cheese (as good as it was) was a little overpowering. Our server gave us time to digest the starters before bringing out the beef and noodle soup and a glass of wine. The soup was perfect! All portions were generous. This was the best meal I have had in years. The service was exceptional, which was all the more amazing after we learned they were down a staff member. The cocktails and mocktails are well-balanced and creative. The mixologists are at the top of their game. We watched them come up with a new cocktail on the fly for another patron. He ordered a 2nd. And the food was delicious. We ordered the chips and dip (smoked salmon), house made summer sausage, loaded sausage sandwich and pulled pork noodle soup. None of it disappointed. The expertise of the butcher / smoker is apparent in every dish. The bone broth base for the soup is what broth aspires to be. Must try when visiting Vashon! We cam here during memorial day weekend when they just reopened after being closed for a while due to covid. Wait times can be a bit long but definitely worth it, we walked around town while we waited. The outside of the place is a bit-in-wall-ish but the interior and patio area is very nice They have a hipster/cool vibe and I LOVED their patio space. The bartenders know how to make good drinks and their wine/beer/cider list is decent. There are also lots of items for purchase since they are a butcher shop if you wanted to grab stuff for a picnic. I think their menu rotates weekly (or monthly?) and was quite interesting. I forgot what we ordered since their menu changed but I remember it was really good. The food is over priced I bought a small side Salad and added on a piece of salmon it was 20$ Salad came with only spinach dressing and the salmon was a inch wide and 3 inches long. Nothing else really sounded good because most things were pickled vegetables. My one drink was around 18$ after taxes it was 41$ and change. read more

I have to say I've only tried this place once. It was really good food and healthy but I'm not sure about pricing it just seems really expensive to me. I mean what can I say? First time to Vashon and to this gem! The food was awesome! I believe their menu changes daily but the evening I went, I had the steak and side of rice. Both were awesome! Also, can't go wrong with bread and butter, am I right? Had a Coastal Pilsner or 2 or 3, because why not and when in Rome.
