We recently tried Rock Island Pizza and ordered the Sounder pizza and a cheese pizza.The Sounder pizza was decent, but it leaned heavily on the vegetables and felt a bit light on both the meat and overall flavor. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite stand out compared to other pizzas we've had.The cheese pizza was just okay. The sauce wasn't really to our taste, and our kids ended up pulling the cheese off, scraping away some of the sauce, and putting the cheese back on before eating it.That said, the staff was friendly and welcoming, which we always appreciate.Overall, the experience was fine, but we'll probably continue exploring some of the other pizza spots on the island in search of our favorite slice. Rock Island Pizza may be a good fit for others, but it just wasn't quite what we were hoping for. read more

We visited on a Wednesday around 7 PM with a group of four and ordered quite a bit of food: three wing orders, two large pizzas, a mini pizza, cheese sticks, garlic bread, margaritas, and fountain drinks. The pizza was good and the wings were very spicy, though I wish they were breaded. The margarita was just okay, and the bread tasted store-bought. Unfortunately, the service really hurt the experience. From the moment we walked in, the cashier seemed annoyed we were there, even though they still had about an hour before closing. One margarita took about 30 minutes, wings took 40-45 minutes, and most of the rest of the food took over 30 minutes as well. We ordered at the counter and still tipped, especially given the size of our order. For a small-town spot, I expected friendlier service. The food itself was decent, but the customer service needs improvement, especially since this seems to be a recurring issue. read more

Took the ferry over to vashon island to explore and we saw this place. I had called about parking because their parking lot had a lot of "no parking without owners permission ". The girl over the phone kind of gave me a smart remark about the parking like I was clueless. When we got in and placed our order she was not friendly at all, and when I ordered a margarita, she rolled her eyes like it was a problem to make it. Nonetheless, I don't believe in not tipping food service workers but she was not deserving at all. Her demeanor was not customer friendly at all. We went to Rock Island during the Strawberry Festival, which was also my first time on the island. We sat outside and the vibe was great; it was a perfect place to hang out on a summer's day. The pizza was tasty, and they had special batch cocktails for the festival that were excellent. This is definitely a place to check out if you're visiting and want a cool island spot! read more

Your decision to eat pizza is a good one, and Vashon will have a slice for you - kid friendly pies with crust toddlers can tackle, a single slice that will remind you of your old neighborhood, or a "crazy" pizza with "exotic" ingredients for those too jaded by a lifetime of pepperoni to get excited about anything. I am loyal to The Rock, a long standing island institution with a tiny bar no one goes to, a back patio I am never there to see filled except at the Strawberry Festival, and some video games I never play. The crust is generally very good - i find it crisps up well in the oven as ten or twenty minutes home can take the shine off any fresh pizza. I have been experimenting with crust at home and although I can make a good crust, I have yet to duplicate Rock Island's flavorful pizza dough. Rock Island uses good ingredients - no "pizza cheese" and generously applies sausage on our go-to order of sausage and pineapple. So excited for the new owners! OK, they are not changing much at first but here's what you need to know: the pizza is still fantastic. The salad is really great, and the lasagna and spaghetti\meatballs is something that is overlooked. Hot wings are a signature piece, but not really an appetizer because they take so long to make. Totally worth the wait, but they will not get there before your meal. Be prepared for the heat! And Island classic, not to be missed. read more

I maybe reviewed this before, my go to pizza place on the island. It's under new ownership since last year but still same quality food, even, dare I say, a little better! It's a wonderful pizza place, good amount of sauce, very tasty pizza, plenty of cheese and toppings. Very delightful! When on island come here a few times per week. Decor was so-so - why all the chairs hanging from the ceiling? Poker on TV? Heavy, busy tablecloths? Odd bric-a-brac on the mantelpiece, like a metal armadillo with holes? The Rock reminds me of the type of pizza places I grew up in as a Northern California kid in the 70s; In fact they have a lot of movie posters from the 70's. It's order at the counter, food brought to your table style. There's also a small bar off to one side as well as a tiny game room. The pizza is a thick crust which is nice but the toppings are what make it awesome. The Tiger Lily is chinese bbq pork, with mozzarella, sweet hot chili sauce, chinese mustard and sesame seeds; with it's mix of sweet, hot and salty it's delicious.. They also have pasta which comes in huge portions. Sizewise, a small pizza is six slice slices and would be fine for two people. Even the mini might be too much for some people. The vibe is family, casual. But non families will feel comfortable as well. read more

If you're looking to waste an hour and a half for ok pizza, at not cheap prices then this is the place for you. Ordered my food looking to enjoy my time with my family, which was nice, but we were all hungry and had to be somewhere in an hour. Well, an hour and 15 min later, I had to ask about our food (nothing extravagant). They said it would be 15 minutes more. 20 minutes later, they deliver my food and say they were sorry and they were short staffed. Well, that information would have been useful an hour and a half before. To top it off, I tipped them 5 dollars when I ordered. Stay away from this place.....they even charge for ranch. read more

Two words: Worker Abuse! I had ordered a pizza over the phone, the girl on the other end was very patient and helped me get the nae for one of their (pricey) pizzas. I came to pick it up a half hour later when I heard the owners (Chuck and who I could only assume his wife; Carol) take turns degrading their workers. I was in the bar that is fairly connected to the kitchen, I saw three girls (children!) hugging and consoling each other because of what just happened (something about how they use to cut sticks and how they do it now). I couldn't help but feel sorry for all those girls. For a bit more; the sticks, no matter the size, are cut down the middle then cut a couple more times for rectangular shaped bread. I heard one girl say "it's how they've been taught" "if we cut it like that it would be called triangles, not sticks". It really made my heart break when I saw all this happening the girls. Wrote a letter to the owners and two weeks later have not heard back from them. Four star pizza, two star service. The sign at the counter said something like "We (underscored) will be right with you, You (underscored) be patient." If you go here, order at the counter then have a seat. They will deliver it to your table (we learned this after waiting about five minutes without the three or four employees acknowledging us). The Pizza was very good and they had a wide variety of pizza, subs and other food on the menu to choose from. They also have several beers on tap. A friend saw a sign advertising Guinness Draught and ordered one. It was poured out of a can flat. The pizza is average, but the service is horrible! This place has a horrible horrible attitude problem! We had a large order for pickup, and they were extremely rude to us over the phone, complaining about our large order. Not smart to piss off someone with a $400+ bill! Then some friends of mine went to dine at the restaurant later, and again had horrible service in person. They were rude, slow, and shorted them on their change back. Not the best pizza I've ever had, but definitely not the worst! My girlfriend and I got the Momba omba combo pizza? Sorry, name might be a bit off but it has a bunch of mushrooms, Italian sausage, canadian bacon, and lots of cheese! Surprised in a good way by the amount of mushrooms, the price with two sodas came to be about $28 for a large. I think we only waited about 20 minutes, if that, for our pizza to get to us, the place had a decent amount of business, it's a Saturday night. This is the best place we've had a meal at here on Vashon, considering the price, how good it was, etc. If I come to Vashon again for a weekend, I'll definitely be coming here again. It's pizza, pretty hard to mess that up. I would say it is mediocre pizza. The crust is kinda boring, but the taste is decent. Would rather have Dominos or Pizza Hut! The worst part is the service. It kinda sucks... And I still can not figure out how it can take so long to make a simple pizza. When you are stuck on an island, we have found that you are at the mercy of really crappy food establishments, high prices, and poor service. We have only returned to 2 places on this island more than once. And one of them we will ONLY go through the drive-through because the last time we were there, we had to deal with three screaming brats that were throwing things around the diner, and of course, white-trash mommy did nothing to stop them, neither did the restaurant staff. read more

The worst! We were told to expect our pizza in 45 minutes, on a Wednesday evening. Well, after about 4 families came in after us, got their food, and had left, we went to ask how much longer. We finally got our pizza after a 90 minute wait. The "clean" forks had leftover food on them. Every parmesan shaker was empty. Only 2 table tops were clean in the whole restaurant. Half of the napkin dispensers were empty. No one greets people as they come in; they are all hiding in the kitchen. The syrup was out in the soda machine when my son went to fill his glass. The beer on tap had a "broken" sign over it. And the bathroom floor was nasty. After the ridiculous amount if time we spent there, as we were walking out, we overheard one of the staff gossiping to a friend/customer that they had lost our ticket and didn't realize until after an hour and just shrugged her shoulders and giggled. Not one effort was made to apologize for our wait or discount our food or even acknowledge their mistake. The only thing this place has going for it is the arcade for kids and that is just to keep them from going bonkers after waiting over an hour for their food to arrive!! The pizza is absolutely underwhelming. The only way I would consider going back to The Rock is if the zombie apocalypse was nigh; and even then, I would hesitate. read more

If you are looking for an authentic small town pizza place this is it. Its an order at the counter place, so your order is taken quickly, but it can take a bit to get your food. Pizza is solid, can't say there is much else going on. There's several combinations and then you have the ability to just customize. Now, the authenticity you ask? Family is always there, they charge a 2% fee (yes 2%) for using credit cards, the soda fountain proudly proclaims 1 FREE REFILL ONLY, and there is a letter on the wall just before the bathroom that purports the owners came over to a guys house in the middle of a storm and delivered pizza to seattle with some other over the top details. read more

Great little local pizza joint! They have gluten-free crusts and a wide variety of toppings so I was able to build my favorite pie. The hotwings were excellent! Probably the best I've ever had and I'm a non-native to Vashon. The dining area was relatively quiet with the exception of a large TV that was showing local news. One of my favorite features is the fireplace. After a long cold drizzly day, settling down in front of the warm glow of the fire and enjoying a meal that doesn't dirty any of my dishes is heaven! read more

Very fun lively good for family space with full bar game room and friendly attentive staff, however the pizza is mediocre at best, way too many toppings and thick cheese that just slips right off when you grab a slice due to weight also not incredibly flavorful the dough is very crispy and delicious though, I hope they tweak the recipe and this will be my go to Pizza place. Prices are comparable to other Vashon Pizza joints but as the Pizza is subpar it is no longer my go to for a slice, however if a sit down fun filled hangout vibe is what you are after this is the place for you. read more

This was the first spot my husband and I had gotten pizza since moving here. We didn't know what to expect and my husband is very picky about his pizza crust. We decided on the Belly Buster. We were told it would take about 15 minutes but felt like it came out faster than that. The pizza was piled with toppings and the crust was not too thick and not too thin, and it was delicious.
