    Outside drinking Rosè

We have had drinks several times with friends and always enjoyed it. The inside area is very charming and very old world feel. The bar area is small, but there are plenty of seating accommodations. We like sitting outside by the fire pit, or really any of the seating areas are great. The bartenders who have served us, have always been very nice and accommodating & one made some especially tasty espresso martinis. Always love to stop in here when we're in the area.

This place has a diverse range of seating, from typical tables to more cozy couches. I got the turkey club sandwich and truffle fries (lunch menu), along with an old fashion. The sandwich was surprisingly very flavorful and seasoned. The fries were a good addition! Service was good. My waiter was very friendly and accommodating, so my experience was positive. I would come here again!

This place is lovely! My husband and I spent a few days in Highlands for a mini honeymoon and decided to try this place for Sunday brunch. They suggest reservations, but we got lucky and were able to get a table outside right away. The service was great and the menu has an awesome selection of brunch items. I chose the chicken biscuit and my husband got the breakfast tacos. We also ordered a couple of mimosas. Everything was delicious! We both really enjoyed our meals and the waitress was extremely friendly. This place is a little pricey, but so is every other restaurant in the area. We will definitely dine here again the next time we visit Highlands!

We ate dinner at the Ruffed Grouse for a party of 8. They were very accommodating. Ambiance was fantastic, Food was delicious, and our server, desmir , was very polite. We had the sweet potato fingerlings and truffle fries to start. Best truffle fries we have ever had. All entrees were great. Highly recommend the ravioli and chai espresso martini!

Took our 96 year old Dad for a mountain excursion and decided to have lunch at the Ruffed Grouse. Could not have been more pleased. Simple menu with delicious food; ambiance was super chill; server (Sam) was outstanding; loved the period specific decor...from furnishings to art to colors and lights... And while we sat indoors there was a very comfortable outdoor eating area with a fantastic guitarist performing. We'll be back.. and a very scenic drive up from Greenville.

The Ruffed Grouse Tavern is set inside the 18 room Highlander Mountain House hotel, a former farmhouse built in 1885 high on a hill in downtown Highlands. It is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Seating includes stuffed sofas and wing chairs and a nice wood burning fireplace that feels good even on a cloudy June afternoon. Intimate vibe & great service. Full bar service available. We went for Sunday brunch and enjoyed blueberry pancakes and omelette. Both were evidence of a well sourced and manage kitchen. Am anxious to return for lunch and dinner.

They have an incredible wine list! Mostly bottles but also a decent glass selection. The food was great. I started with the goat cheese salad which was excellent. Then we each had a different salmon dish, one encrusted with vidalia onions and the other wasabi peas and both were equally tasty. Hard to recommend one over the other. Service was very timely and server was knowledgeable of the options. We will definitely go back if ever in Highlands again!

We didn't have a reservation, but Dindu at the host stand was so kind and was able to seat us right away, which we really appreciated. I also have to give Dindu a special shoutout. I accidentally left something behind and didn't realize it until I was already back home in Florida. Dindu was kind enough to mail it back to me, and her follow-through and care with my item truly went above and beyond. I can't say enough good things about the service at Wild Thyme. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos because we basically inhaled our food. :) But I can tell you the halibut I had was absolutely delicious!

Very Disappointed -- Would Never Go Back…read more We had eaten at Primary once while visiting the Highlands a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, that experience was disappointing from the beginning. The bartenders were rude and unhelpful, and the food and service were two stars at best. The one reason we decided to give Primary another chance was the Sunday night prime rib, which happens to be one of my favorite meals. I completely understand requiring a credit card to hold a reservation. I was a chef for 10 years, so I understand the business side of reservations and no-shows. Unfortunately, our French Bulldog became seriously ill around 3:30 AM Sunday morning, and we felt we needed to rush him to BluePearl in Atlanta. Because of the emergency, we obviously could not make our dinner reservation. I tried calling Primary, but no one answered. The recorded message instructed me to send a message through the OpenTable application, which I did. I explained exactly what had happened and asked if they would please refund the reservation charge given the circumstances. I also emailed the owner personally and explained the situation. His response was simply no because we did not show up. I reminded him that I had followed the restaurant's own instructions and contacted them through OpenTable as soon as I could. He still refused. What bothered me most wasn't the money. It was the complete lack of professionalism, customer service, and empathy. Emergencies happen. I would have expected a restaurant to understand that a sick family pet requiring emergency veterinary care is very different from simply deciding not to show up. After our first disappointing experience, we gave Primary another chance because of the prime rib. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled guaranteed that we will never return. If I could give the owner negative one star, I would. Don't waste your money or your time supporting a business that treats customers this way.

Friendly staff greeted us as we walked in. The waiter promptly arrived and brought chips and the house salsa to our table, and most of them were broken and looks like they took from the bottom of the barrel. The salsa bar was a nice addition so you could have various flavors. We ordered a regular and watermelon margaritas and they were not good, no taste of tequila at all. I was surprised at this since other reviews said great drinks. So far two strikes against them. I was starting to regret coming here since there are many good Mexican places in town, but things changed quickly. Our second basket of chips was much better, and once we received our food orders I was very pleased. I ordered Chili Rellenos and they were fantastic, much better than I've had in many other places. My wife ordered the 4 enchiladas platter and it was beautiful, plenty of chicken and fillings, with tasty sauces on each type. It was so big the rice and beans had to come on a separate plate. I normally prefer refried beans over the rice for side dishes, but that rice was very flavorful which was surprising to me since most are bland. My son had the seafood burrito and he said it was very good with a lot of seafood. It filled him up, which is an accomplishment in itself. All the portions were large and prices were very reasonable. Our waiter provided great service. He didn't speak English very well but no points were taken off for that. He knew enough to do his job. Their health scores were also very high, which was why we chose this place over others in the area we normally chose in the past. I would rank this place up there against any of the other local Mexican restaurants and hope they do well. At the time of our visit, the Ingles in Cashiers had coupons on the back of the receipt, so you can save a few bucks on the already very reasonable prices there.
