What a cool pub! We walked up and had to wait about 5 minutes before we got a table at lunch on summertime Friday, the patio was full so we took a seat near the kitchen. The pub is decorated with tons of cool old mining photos and artifacts. There is a canoe hanging from the ceiling and hunting mounts all over. The staff is so friendly and the food cooked on site and fresh to order. The fish was still sizzling when the meal was delivered to our table. $60 for lunch including fish n chips, 3 pieces of chicken fingers and a pint of beer from a brewery in Lethbridge (about 100km away). And my husband said the fish was actually really good, not just standard fish n chips but full of flavour and flaky. read more

I find it rather strange that people have awesome comments about this place yet only giving it 3 stars. Stopping here on a Tuesday evening for dinner and this place is buzzing. Quick service as soon as I sat down. Love the decor but most importantly the food is off the hook. I got the Cadillac burger and it was fresh and delish. Stopped in after a weekend in Fernie. Have been driving past here for years but it has always been between meal times so was excited to finally stop in for lunch. First off they have great decor inside (hello canoe hanging from the roof) and the patio/deck is lovely especially as it is 1/2 in building shade for those who want it and the rest is sunshine. There were 5 of us and we were pretty hungry. Order drinks, and waited for a pretty long time to get them. Then ordered food straight away. It took an incredibly long time for the food to arrive. Over 45 minutes at least. The problem was that no one came to say if there was a wait or what was going on which leads me to believe it is always that slow. By now we were so hungry we could have eaten the table. Thankfully the food eventually arrived. The boys both had bacon and cheese burgers. The burgers are massive! The fries portion that comes with is pretty generous too. Both said their burgers were good. One girl had ceaser salad (needed more dressing) and S+P wings which were tasty. The other girl had poutine with her chicken burger and the gravy for the poutine was on point. Chicken burger wasn't bad either. I had the baked chicken with cheese and ham on top with a baked potato. Potato was perfect inside and had a generous amount of toppings. Chicken was slightly overdone so the edges were dried out but it still tasted good. Overall this would have been 4-stars for good food, but the service was super slow from the waitresses and the kitchen was snail pace. If we ever stop again, will have a snack before hand so we don't fade away waiting. read more

There's a POUTINE BURGER. Passin' through the pass? The Rum Runner is a great highway rest stop. Packed to the brim with coal town kitsch, the Rum Runner is a favourite roadside food and drink stop that serves up some tasty pub grub. There's a nice sized patio a story up so you can soak up some sun and watch other motorists cruise by. It's got a good authentic Canadian Pub feel to it with plenty of exposed wood and a come as you are attitude. They've a got a decent assortment of items with some meal sized salads and wraps if you want to go a little lighter, but what it seems like what they're really known for is their half-pound burgers! Ok, back to the beginning - There's a POUTINE BURGER. It comes with a warning that says "Not for the faint of heart". It sounded like and absolute monster and the absolute best pick on the menu. I didn't get it. I had my shot to man-up and I didn't take it. Instead I went with the Pulled Pork and a side of regret. If you're from out of town you won't get served!!!! Walked in, waited to be seated, no one acknowledged us, someone came in after us wanting a take-out order, the server immediately comes to take their order but not to seat us. Then she walks past us without acknowledging us to the kitchen. Another server finally greeted us after 5 min of waiting (with open tables ready to be seated but there was a sign saying wait to be seated) and seated us. Our server came over and asked for drinks, got the drinks and took our order. I ordered a burger with fries, 2 min after she took our order I flagged her down to ask to change to mashed potatoes. After that she didn't even check on us or refill our drinks. The server was stoping to lean on tables and talk to other people while we waited. I had to ask another server to get me a drink. After 40 minutes of waiting I noticed a table that had been seated 20 minutes after us received their burgers and our server had not even checked on us, let alone brought us our food. I finally flagged her down with great effort and asked her where our food is. She went to the kitchen and returned to tell me that because I had changed my order to mashed potatoes, literally 2 minutes after I ordered, the kitchen had messed up. We waited for 40 minutes with no refills and the server only checked on our order after I asked her to do so, even though it's her job to do so. Decided we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes to get our food since we had already waited 40 minutes and they hadn't even started our order. I left because I was very upset, I was hungry and had just wasted a long time waiting for food that never came. My partner stayed to pay the bill, told her we needed the bill, and she then proceeded to turn around and go talk to another table, probably of regulars/ friends, and make us wait even longer to receive the bill. My partner left money on the table for the drinks while I waited in the car. When my partner came out and told me he had paid, I went back in and asked the server to please return the $20 as she had wasted an hour of our time, we were hungry and the whole situation has ruined the nice night my partner and I were trying have. She got her manager, I explained the situation and the server tried to deflect blame and even say it was cause I changed my ordered from fries to mashed potatoes, that's how bad she is at her job, she can't even manage to change an order 2 minutes after she takes it. I got my money back and the server tried to say some smart ass remark as I walked out and I told her to learn to do her job. WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. If you are considering blowing your diet on a juicy burger, this is the place to do it. The burgers are big, juicy, and flavorful, and come in a variety of arrangements on a bun that is practically perfect. The portion size is very generous. The price might be a couple bucks more than you will pay for a lesser burger in your local pub, but it's well worth it. The yam fries are excellent, and they mix a mean Caesar as well. For my taste, The Rum Runner has the ideal atmosphere for a mid-day pit stop at a pub, and that is enhanced by prompt friendly service. It is a local watering hole for the locals. Rustic feel with TV screens and an outdoor patio. Patio is nice but there is noise from the highway. Stick to the basics and food is fine. Food is very slow however. Beer is a bit expensive, but a decent pub to hang out in. read more

I never write reviews but this was SO bad I had to write one. Right off the bat we weren't greeted and it felt like we were annoying the ladies working. They did accommodate us as we wanted to sit in a booth, so I guess they get a point for that. I am keto, and my boyfriend was eating low carb today (usually keto too).. We know what we can and can't eat and always order what we're familiar with, as to not trouble our server. I ordered a burger (no bun, no ketchup) which was what came to the table luckily and I asked for a house salad on the side. The food took 45 minutes when there was almost no one in the restaurant, and when it came it was underwhelming to say the least. My salad didn't come out with the rest, and when I finally asked for the second time, it had croutons on it. I asked what the salad was and she said "a basic house salad". As a server you should be aware that if I can't eat a bun, I probably can't eat croutons, and should mention that your "house" salad has corn and berries in it. A good house salad, however I was unable to eat it and would've liked another option. My boyfriend ordered a quesadilla, of which they completely gave us the wrong one (beans and goat cheese instead of chicken) and not only does he hate beans, he can't eat them. She also never asked if he wanted a side when it was an option. It took us around 10 minutes to get the servers attention and finally the food runner came over and took it away. There was no apology, they acted as if we had done something wrong. He didn't want another one, although no one actually asked him. We had to wait another 10 minutes to get the server to come over to tell her we didn't want another. There was no compensation on our bill, we waited 10+ minutes after the bills to get the debit machines, and we were never offered any condiments for the other people eating fries and burgers. They also brought our to go order when the rest of the food came, so it was soggy when we left. I'm a server myself and during tough times like these I'm much more understanding, however when I paid 50$ for two burgers I expect better service than that especially when the restaurant is dead. The table next to us had to flag down a server to get beverages as well. It also was unpleasant that only the food runner was wearing a mask, and no gloves were used to take our dishes away. I used to come here all the time when I was a local and hyped it up but sadly the service was TERRIBLE. Ashely needs to take a smaller section and have some manners when having guests in her section. Stopped in for dinner before a hockey game, great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Ashley was our server and she was great. Food was delicious, I had the steak with a side Greek salad and the steak was a perfect medium, the salad was amazing with large chunks of feta cheese as well as a lot of olives, just the way I like it. My only complaint was that our sodas were never refilled, but I'm not certain they offered free refills. :-). Wow. Bad on me. How many times have I drove by and never stopped. I have really been missing out. We were greeted by smiling staff who were really enjoying being at work. I could have just hung out for the afternoon to be a part of their infectious good nature. They backed it up with great food as well. The Yorkshire pudding tasted like Mom's which is high praise. My Elk burger was tasty and lean. I never thought my son would finish his poutine burger. He sees himself as a poutine expert and rated this as some best that he has had.
