Deluxe Smash-burger with a generous order of waffle fries and doused with the house BBQ. Yummm!!

A coworker and I had the opportunity to do lunch at this restaurant. For those who know King City it's a bit hidden but convenient hop off the 101 highway. The outside is ok though nothing special and the inside is quite airy. I noticed they have an additional room for seating. This was my first visit based on photos others had posted to Yelp. Their burgers and fries looked decadent. The fries however looked like way too much so I went with the Deluxe Smash Burger and it did not disappoint. I only did one patty and despite expecting it to be thinner than I might like it was not. The price is a bit higher than I expected but the overall meal was ine I didn't look back on with regret and I would probably do it again. The customer service was fine, though not table waited, You order at the cash register and then pick up the food there. The turn around on an order was good and the portion on the fries generous. I would note, one word of caution. Not sure what brand of Ketchup they use but it should be avoided or atleast taste tested before you douse your food in it. It didn't agree with me or my coworker. But on the other hand, the BBQ at the table was delicious. I feel like it might be made in house but it was the delivery system for both the burgers and fries. To management, keep it simple Heinz on the ketchup. Overall experience was good and will likely revisit again in the future.

This place was top tier! My boyfriend and I stopped in King City overnight as a halfway point to our actual destination. We were unsure what to eat but the hotel owner suggested this place. We are SO glad we went in! From start to finish, everything was so good! Food, vibes, service! Mike, the manager, and Henry, the owner, were super cool dudes who absolutely love what they do and you can tell by how well they run this place. The chimichurri steak sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich, and buffalo wings were amazing - they were so good I forgot to take a photo before eating haha! They also had my favorite seltzer, Dark Wolf by Crow and Wolf, on tap and my boyfriend had 2 Towns Bad Apple cider and it was delicious! This is easily one of the best first experiences at a place we've ever had! We'll absolutely be back!

If you're in or anywhere near King City, The Rustic Barrel is 100% worth the stop. This place feels welcoming the moment you walk in, and the food just seals the deal. I tried the tri tip, chicken, and ribs, and honestly, everything was on point. The tri tip was juicy, tender, and packed with that smoky BBQ flavor you hope for. The chicken was perfectly cooked (not dry at all, which is rare), and the ribs were fall-off-the-bone good with just the right balance of smoke and sauce. You can really tell they care about what they're putting on the plate. Great food, comforting vibes, and a spot that feels like a local gem. I'll definitely be back next time I'm craving real BBQ done right.

We were passing through town and decided to stop here. We were not disappointed. We sat at the counter and enjoyed the atmosphere. I ordered a salad with tri tip and added some of their delicious bbq sauce! It was amazing! I looked over and my husband had devoured his bbq chicken sandwich as well. The jalapeño ranch is to die for. Service was fantastic, we really enjoyed talking to the waitress. Great experience and great food! Oh and some good beers on tap even if we didn't drink.

Food? Amazing. Atmosphere? Vibin'. Service? Friendly. I am so glad I stopped here instead of the Burger King across the steeet. A truly great oasis along the 101.

First impression was that the restaurant is very welcoming and clean. We received a friendly reception and quick directions when it was obvious we were here for the first time. Next came the order. We were blown away by the portions and presentation of the food. And the flavor? The sauces? So amazing. We had the Barrel fries with tri tip and a pulled pork sandwich. It was enough food to feed six of us at least so we'll be enjoying this for several meals. The service was spot on and for the amount of food you receive, the price is completely reasonable. I highly recommend.

    Lots of tap beers!!

Fun atmosphere and good food!…read more Stopped here for a quick drink and bite to eat before heading back to the hotel for the night. The town was hosting live music at the plaza across the street so we sat outside facing the plaza. It was a great way to enjoy our meal! The place was pretty packed because of the World Cup going on (Mexico vs Korea) so I understand why our server was a bit slow. She was handling tables inside and outside but keep in mind when it gets busy you may wait a bit longer for things. I ordered "The Steak" which is a hangar steak with a compound butter on top and Brussels sprouts on the side, I subbed potatoes for coleslaw. The steak was cooked nicely and had a great crust on the outside, very flavorful with just the right amount of saltiness. The Brussels were some of the best I've had even though they were so simple. I ate every last one! The slaw was ok but not a ton of flavor, it was pretty light on the sauce. We also got an order of bacon wrapped jalapeños with cilantro ranch. They were so good! We destroyed them in seconds while burning our tongues on the lava-like cheese. Worth it!

November 2025 Since…read moreI gave such a stellar review of the Bacon Crusted Burger at Street Side Ale House, I must update the comments since people do go to restaurants based on other's reviews. And I am so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to dozens of people. We raved to our friends about this place and this burger in particular. So, when we traveled with them to Paso Robles this week, we took them there on Thursday night. We passed on having the Wagyu 8 oz. burger and fries at In Bloom (Michelin listed) the night before in anticipation of this burger. Service was abysmal. We sat for quite some time with no service. My wife went in and asked where our server was? Finally, a woman showed up and said our waiter would be with us shortly. Sometime later, a friendly waiter arrived. He was obviously new, under-trained, and spread too thin. He was very personable, but our drinks sat on the bar for a long time and my wife had to go in and ask if she could take then. "No, the waiter will bring them out." Meanwhile, our friends were sipping on their drinks. We got our appetizers and then ordered our meals. The food came quickly, maybe too quickly, and I noticed no egg yolk oozing out (it was halved for us in the kitchen) and the burger overall was much thinner than the last time and the arugula was so wet under the patty. So, we ate a couple bites of it and it just did not taste right. I opened it up to find a baked or boiled grey patty with no crispy bacon wrapping. The bacon was soft, I mean boiled soft and was a small lump on top of the burger patty, not even close to crispy. More like a damp towel. The avocado was sliced but not spread out, so stuck on the left side. The egg was hard cooked with a solid yolk. No pepper to be found. I showed the waiter who was stunned. He thought we were kidding. The manger came out, looked at it, asked what we wanted to do. I was a bit surprised given the wreck that this burger was and said I don't know, what do you want to do? He said the chef wasn't there but took the plate back to the kitchen. He came back and said the chef (wait, he wasn't there) was surprised and said it was not right. The chef (if he was there) should have headed straight out to us and apologized. So, the manager took the burger off the bill but left the same horrible burger ($22) on our friend's bill. I should not have to tell a manager how to fix such a mess and disaster of a meal and service. I hope they fix their kitchen, whoever is checking food at the pass, and the service or they will be another casualty to the restaurant business in Paso. Sorry I had to write this as I rarely post negative reviews in order to not hurt a business and their employees.

The fish was crispy and flakey and their tar tar sauce was great. But those fries (aka chips)... I got the garlic fries and I'd go there just for those bad boys. I also had an amazing Shrimp Cocktail and they came with a healthy amount of delicious horseradish so I could make the cocktail sauce sing to me. The fish were plump, cold, and dense... which isn't good for a partner, but it perfect of shrimp. Drink wise, after a few days of wine drinking, I needed something of the non-wine variety and this place fit the bill. I had a delicious espresso martini which contained Guinness so it did that thing that Guinness does. So cool. The Everywhere Elixir was a great drink...refreshing and balanced with some ingredients I hadn't had before. I'd get it again. And if you like Guinness, they have a printer that prints designs on the beer's head! So cool! My head didn't fit so I couldn't try it. Once I figured out there were two sides to this place, it made a lot more sense. I ended up sitting at the bar on the "left" side where it was much more lively than the right. It was early in the evening so it wasn't overly busy on either side, but it started filling up by the time I left. The bartenders were great and worked together to make drinks and bring food, and clear plates. It was an all around great experience. If I ever go back to Paso Robles, this will be on my list again!
