Stopped by here 3 times when they were supposed to be open and all 3 times they were closed or told us to leave because they weren't actually open. Haven't got a chance to try the food but probably won't be back for a 4th time. read more

Locally owned Authentic Mexican food eatery. Offers a wide variety of dishes. Excellent customer service, the staff is very welcoming and accommodating. Whether you're a local or driving by this place is worth the stop. Might take longer than usual to get your food but everything is made fresh to order. So order in advance if ordering to go. I absolutely love their huaraches de asada. I must say I was a bit skeptical about the sushi but so glad I tried it. Might be one of few locations in town that sells sushi and my gosh so fresh so good. I highly recommend the chica fresa if you like deep fried sushi. They offer a variety of beverages to include aguas frescas and Mexican bottled beverages. Location is perfect for family outings and offers entertainment options such as a pool table and full size TVs for game night. Location does have access to clean restrooms. We're happy to have discovered Huarache King on our last drive up Hwy 101 to San Francisco. After years of always staying on the west side of 101 for the fuel and fast foods, we ventured to the east side and on to the main street, Broadway, where there are several Mexican food options. What drew us into Huarache King were the many photos of their food in the windows, and a Vicente Fernandez song playing loudly on their juke box. We grabbed a comfy booth by the window and quickly dove into the extensive menu, which also features photos of each dish. Once our food came we actually had to review the photo of the dish on the menu, and it looked exactly the same. Very nicely done. We had some delicious Ceviche and Shrimp dishes to start, and moved on to their traditional Enchiladas, Chile Verde, and Chile Relleno, all with tasty rice and beans. And all paired nicely with their Horchata. Definitely good "road food," and helped to rejuvenate us for the rest of the drive home. Conveniently located between N. The food is good. However they are only open about half they time they claim to be open as for their posted hours. We end up having to go somewhere else because they won't be open. Also they never have the chili rellenos my personal favorite. read more

Now that we've discovered Huarache King in downtown King City . . . . the road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara will always be a delicious one. This is the half way point and we are always ready for a good stretch and a good meal. Interesting that the menu here is all done with photos of the different dishes, and very rarely do the photos match the food. But at Huarache King the combination Enchilada plate looks EXACTLY like the photo, and it was delicious. Lots of shrimp in different plates and glasses, and they also serve Menudo, which can be hit and miss at most places, but here it is done deliciously. Good meat portions, solid pieces without the slimy parts, and done with hominy. And to further compliment the food and ambience, they have a good jukebox that plays nice and loud. We were serenaded by Vicente Fernandez, Paquita del Barrio, Luis Miguel and assorted Mariachi bands throughout the meal. Love this place . . . . . !! read more

Down Hill, way down hill since our last visit., Who ever heard of a Mexican restaurant that was out of rice? On Friday night? and Out of Pork? On Friday night? At 6 PM on Friday ? We stopped in at Huarache King after 7 hours on the road. King City had been billed as a Truck Stop Town along U.S. 101 but it turned out to be much more. Along the city's Broadway street, which harks back to another century, are situated a plethora of quality restaurants. It seems every other storefront is a Mexican establishment offering variations on the standard fare, each infusing a specific region of Mexico into their cooking. Huarache King claims the Yucatan Peninsula as their homeland. We enjoyed their chile rellenos, chile verde and alambre, which is embellished fajitas. The addition of bacon and cheese make this a favorite of mine and I jumped at the opportunity to try it here. We also nibbled on homemade tortillas and reveled in the outstanding beans and rice, made, of course, with lard. All the food was top quality and much more authentic than what I'd find in Humboldt County, where we're from. The salsas were laden with chiles, giving even the "mild variety" considerable kick. The bright green "spicy" salsa was my favorite and I heaped it on top of my alambre. Delicious horchata washed it all down and I have to say, this was probably the best mexican meal I've ever had. We were on our way from the bay area back to LA in May 2010 when we stumbled upon this place. The food is yummy, rustic, and authentic. All the other patrons were locals/Mexican. The selection is different from what we usually see at large chain Mexican restaurants. Portions are huge, prices are very reasonable. The wait staff is friendly, but don't seem to speak very fluent English. Not much in the form of decor or ambience, but the food more than makes up for it! read more

Food was great. We sat down. It was a sweet place with a good vibe. Then after we ordered the music came on. BLASTING though the restaurant. We brought our 5 month old and had to run him outside. The music was so loud that my husband was sitting right next to me and we had to scream at each other to be heard. It was deafening. Very disappointed that they couldn't be bothered just to lower the music a bit!!! Honestly i liked this place but that was so uncomfortable. Oh so this is King City what they got going on here what're we going to eat hmm okay well looks like tacos, tacos, tacos, tacos, tacos, dominos, tacos, tacos, tacos, cheezers pizza, tacos, or tacos. We opted for tacos. It was really a 3-star experience, but they receive a bonus comedy star for having a "Wet Back Burrito" on offer, not in the menu, but in one of dozens of photos that adorn the walls of the seemingly once-Chinese restaurant. The Huarache was pretty okay. It came nowhere near the deliciousness of one prepared by Taqueria Azteca in Garden Grove. The huarache itself was stuffed with frijoles. And some additional frijoles, as expected, were slathered atop. But the frijoles were a bit dry, even chalky in places. So that's a bummer. The carne asada was passable, but not delicious. A little dry, somewhat chewy. It should have been pollo adobado, as ordered, since I was going to try Suz's carne asada taco, but being a hungry traveler I just kept the beef-beef. The salsa was pretty good, but I did not get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked, because to have chips for to dip in there one must pay an extra fee. read more

I tried the Enchiladas Suisas and my GF had the Fish Ceviche tostadas. Both were much better than we expected. as with most, we were coming up the 101 and lookin for lunch. stopped in here, cause there was a yard sale next to the place, so we figured we could shop for junk after eating. seems clean, menu is all pictures. I love the counter and seats in the front. they were out of the chili rellenos. (-1 star) gf ordered a bean and cheese burrito, came out beans and rice. (-1 star) I had a huarache w/ fish, and it was kinda dry, and the fish was essentially chopped up fish sticks. (-1 star) the beans had some weird tendon like substance in there, and I stopped eating. (-1 star) price was low, which is to be expected around here, but really, there are like 10 other places to eat on this street, so I will try another next time in King City. read more

Excellent food! We were on our way to Monterrey but stopped in King City along the way. We tried the shrimp ceviche tostados, enchiladas, and carne asada. The shrimp cocktails looked amazing but we were full at that point. Highly recommend this hidden gem. read more

I am rating 5 stars because of the quality of the food...First time visit and I asked the young waitress to bring the best dish in the house...She returned with Shrimp prepared in a super complex red sauce which was absolutely amazing. Shrimp were accompanied by a chili rellano which was easily the best I ever tasted. What a surprise find. We had beef fajitas although all I could see on the menu were shrimp fajitas. They were happy to substitute beef. I've never had fajitas like this. The meat wasn't floating in oil with onions and peppers, it was on top of roasted cauliflower and broccoli which seemed odd but turned out to be non-greasy and delicious. In fact, I plan to start making my own this way. Rice and beans were fairly standard. We were the only gringos in there and I don't know how much English they all speak but it was no trouble explaining what we wanted. If you are going through King City this is the Mexican restaurant to try. My only surprise was that it was a bit pricey. I didn't see any of the inexpensive tacos kind of thing, maybe I should have read the walls better. Most of the things on the menu were in the $12.95 category which I didn't expect in King City. However, they were made well enough and were tasty enough to warrant the price. read more
