I'm sure this is probably to avoid waste, and accidents since space was very limited at the stations. I do think it's a bit pricey for what you get. The Mat is very rough and pieces of it are all over my car just from the drive home. I'm not sure how long it will last but it's rather small for $50. There's ample space, glazes, wheels, kilns. Whether you're new to the wheel or an experienced hand builder, you'll love it here. They hold monthly events where you can do special firing, such as raku & they offer one time wheel. I have worked with Clay for over 15 years, and I recently came back to it through Oak knoll. In dealing with a dexterity issue, Dani, my instructor, and Amy created tools to assist me with learning and mastering the wheel. I've taken a short break as my dexterity issues have persisted, but I'll never forget their kindness and accommodations. Also, everyone I've met through classes has been extremely nice.
