I've gone to a few of these paint the ceramic stores and this was a bit of a fresh take. First, we didn't have a reservation, and with 6 adults that's a tall order on a Saturday. They cleared out "the party room" and gave us our own space. Also, it's BYOB and Specs is 3 doors down.. so we got a few beverages before beginning. The owner of this establishment, Lottie, is a former teacher and she really enjoys taking the time to help you pick the right colors and learn the techniques and understand the process. As a group we decided to draw names out of a hat and paint a mug for the name we drew. Good times. Each piece was under $20 and we were there for 3 hours painting. Honestly, it's one of the more inexpensive excursions a group of adults can do and being able to take something hand painted home from the day is a beautiful reminder of a moment of time. We never felt rushed to leave and any questions we had were answered immediately and in a way we could understand. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. read more

I hate that I am having to resort to this because the lady that helped us there, I believe was the owner, and she was very helpful and friendly while there. However, the follow up has been awful. I had impressions of my daughter hands and feet done at the end of JANUARY. They told me it would take 2-3 weeks for those to be ready for pick up. It is now the end of March. I called two weeks ago to check the status and they said they were holding it for me in case I wanted to come in and paint it. I didn't even know that was an option, but no one called to let me know that it was even ready for me to come in and paint if I wanted. I told them no I don't want to paint it. I would just take it as is and they said it would be another week. Here we are two weeks later with no call or email to confirm it is ready. The process that should have take 2-3 weeks from what I was told has now gone on for 2 months with no product in hand yet. This was meant to be a birthday present for my husband in February. I really just want to know where the impressions are as her feet and hands will never be that little again, so it's not like I can remake it. read more

I've only done this kind of thing one other time. This location has a welcoming vibe. They accommodated the imprint for my dog with only about 15 minutes notice and gave us plenty of time to decide what kind of art we wanted to do. Their glass fusing looks really interesting and they showed us various examples of what we could do. Ultimately, we chose painting preprepared pottery. They had conversations with us about what direction we wanted to go and provided us with a lot of advice and the right kind of tools for what we wanted. Their prices were very reasonable. My daughter and two friends went to Fire it up December 19, 2022 to paint items to celebrate her birthday. The woman at the neighboring table was told her pieces would be ready for pick up before Christmas. The week after Christmas, my husband went to pick up our pieces. They were not ready. we received a call Jan 3, 2023 that our items were ready. Unfortunately the following week, I became ill and we forgot about the pottery. We never received a second phone call or notification that it was ready. Every time I was in the area, they were closed. Today, I asked my husband to retrieve the pieces..One item was never found with Lottie stating she has a 60 day period and after that your item may not be around. One simple way to avoid this frustration, would be to make a second phone call to remind the customers. I am sure Lottie would appreciate the same grace and understanding as we all know life can get busy and away from us. read more

I would have given this establishment a review of 3 stars, however, after being rudely "kicked out" of Fire Up after purchasing my service of $54, I was completely turned off. The location was not packed, therefore, the space was not needed. In addition, the conversation that we were having was appropriate and humorous. However, the owners mother came to our table and implied if we aren't making any additional purchases we should leave. This is very unprofessional and disrespectful to someone who has just contributed to their business. Visited yesterday with my 5 year old and had a great time painting pottery. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and given the "lay of the land". The lady was friendly and explained that you pick your pieces, colors from the table, & said they would seat me on the side of the room. The studio fee (to paint, fire, & glaze) was $7 for adults and $5 for kids. They have plenty of items to choose from for adults, kids and have many themes. Me and my daughter had our eye on a few items we will do next! Once we picked our pieces we turned to see they were waiting at the table with our next set of instructions which included filling out a quick sheet with our name and info, writing a quick description of our pieces, and writing down colors from their chart. Moments later they took the sheets so they could get our colors and came back quickly with the colors and tips for painting our items. They are good about having people periodically walk around to assist you, give you tips, etc as you are working. Once you are done you put initials on your piece and pay at the register. Pick up is about a week later. I love that the paint is washable and stain free. Parents this means no stressing about kids getting paint on themselves and creating stains that won't come out. Pottery pieces are $8ish to $20ish from what I saw but I didn't look at large or seasonal items. There are many completed pieces out as examples or to help spark your creativity. They also have pottery making and glass fusing which looked really cool. There was a group doing this when we arrived. Snacks and drinks are there for purchase but you can also bring your own food and alcohol which is cool. The only drawback I noticed is that while the place is pretty large in total size several of the tables are very close to and obstruct the pottery pieces. This made me a little nervous about my kid breaking something on accident and also feel bad for anyone who wanted to see a piece up close but couldn't because I was sitting there & obstructing their view in some way. read more

We have been hearing about this place forever by my cousin. So I gather up a group of girls to come to this location. We were created by Lottie Cantu the owner and she was so pleasant and sweet. She really knew everything about the shop and art. Being the first time there she was so attentive and patience with us. We want to make glass jewelry and knew nothing about it. She was so nice to teach us and let us spend almost all day making out master piece. You can tell she loves her customers by the time she takes talking to them. During the time I was there she was training her staff about the importance of the material and what goes with which piece. You can tell Lottie takes that extra care in customer service. We saw a lot of families there and she took time talking to them and making sure they had what they needed and made sure they had three coats. I saw other reviews about this place was shocked to see so little stars since my experience was amazing and I would recommend this place to anyone that want to be artistic. They are a BYOB place but they do have snacks and drinks for sale from $1.00-$3.00. It is a great place for glass fussing, jewelry making, pottery wheel, and pottery painting. I took a "Christmas in July" pottery painting class & loved it. It was BYOB, and they served cheese & crackers. They even added ambiance with Christmas music playing in the background. We each painted a ceramic Xmas tree that came with a light kit. They are about a foot tall or so. Makes a great holiday decoration or gift. They came out beautiful from the kiln and I was able to pick it up about 2-3 weeks later. I hope they offer more Xmas oriented classes like ornaments. read more

I had taken my staff for pottery painting a while back before COVID and we all had a great time! We were each able to create some amazing pottery pieces and let our artistic side come out. We all enjoyed the fun experience and our pottery pieces came out great with all the tools and applications we were able to use to decorate them. After several years, I chipped one of my dog bowl sets and I went back to make another bowl, but they didn't have the exact one. The person who worked there offered a solution to fix the chip, and she had it ready a few days later. I was so grateful and really appreciate the awesome customer service!!! It's a fun place and I enjoyed painting my pottery. Our group had a good hostess (Danielle). She was pretty cool and down to earth. The place seemed popular in the area and was crowded. The wonderful lady who checked us out at the register was friendly and provided good customer service. The rating is a four star bc My group was late for our appointment (totally our fault) and the individual in charge was kinda passive aggressive when engaging with us. Her help didn't seem genuine. My friend and I came in at around 8 o'clock one Friday night to try some ceramic painting for fun. The owner (I'm guessing) seemed as if she didn't want us there saying "painting may take 2 to 3 hours and we close at 9". In the end, we chose small pieces and rushed painting to try and get out of there before 9. Especially as a small business, you really shouldn't be rude like that to customers. Big glass window facing the big parking lot gives a lot of natural lighting. Their ceramic price is very fair and they only charge a $7 studio fee. ( I was there for 6 hours and painted 5 bowls for that price! Wow!) They also have classes to teach you how to make and paint ceramic with very fair fee if you are having trouble to do it your own. Great studio. We had a great time at our wheel throwing class. Picked our bowls up a couple weeks ago. They came out nice for first timers.

Me and my friends went in and right off the bat it took a very long time for us to be acknowledged and even then instructions weren't clear they gave us a paper to fill out which we did and then we were pretty much ignored till we got up to ask for assistance mind you there were other people who got there after us who were attended to in a quicker and friendly manner. Our whole experience was fun between but we were pretty uncomfortable and felt unwelcome in the shop we definitely won't be returning. Even a week later when my friend went to pick up the cups she said she was treated rudely and was very uncomfortable. I'm sure there are other places that provide the same experience with friendly service. read more

This is a cute studio tucked in a shopping complex. There are a variety of pieces to chose from, including mugs, plates, and decor items. You're essentially paying for the item, and the cost of painting, glazing, etc. is included. The prices are reasonable, and what I really like about this place is there are SO many colors to choose from. It's a nice and relaxing activity for just hanging out with friends, or going out with kids! It really is fun for all age groups. I've been twice, and it hasn't been busy or packed. The atmosphere is super relaxing, and the employees don't rush you at all. Whenever you're content with your item, you can pick it up in 7 days and take it home. DO NOT GO HERE. There are so many issues with this place... 1) the prices on the pottery and the extra fees are unnecessarily high. I spent a little more then $16 to make a tiny ornament that was about 2.5 inches wide. 2) the workers are so incredibly rude. You can't even have fun here because every five seconds the workers come over and tell your your painting it wrong and stay there for an additional 5 minutes criticizing you. They also were gossiping about a group of people who were having one of their byob parties. You have to signal them down to get paint (which you will try to avoid bc once they have your attention they will start nagging you again) 3) they never email you when it's time to pick you piece up, so you just have to guess when it will be finished. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY (go to painting with a twist they are super nice and fun there.) read more

We were looking for something fun to do with a toddler, so we came across this place. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as we did, but it was super fun! You pay a flat fee for paining, then you choose your piece of pottery and pay according to what you choose. Then they have a menu of paint colors and you choose which colors you want for your piece, and someone brings them out to you. I kind of wish the quality of brushes that we had to use were a little better, but I guess for the price we can't complain. My only disappointment was that you have to wait a week for your item to be baked and finished. I waited for a call and never received one, so my friend finally just went up there and had to ask for our pottery pieces. Other than that, we had a blast! I would totally like to come back for Halloween and Christmas and do something Holiday themed. read more

This place is the absolute worst experience I've had. My girlfriend and I took my parents for their Christmas present to do the clay making. I called 4 WEEKS IN ADVANCE to confirm the appointment, then 2 DAYS, then DAY BEFORE. Each time they said they had space & that we were on the schedule. Then we show up and they claim that there is not enough room for us. Little upset but we decide to do glass fusion. We make it and they call us a MONTH later to say that they finally finished. My girlfriend goes back to get it & THEY DIDN'T DO ANY OF THE SLUMPS WE ASKED FOR. So now we paid $100 for two freaking paperweights. 0/10 would NOT recommend. read more

The owners really mean well, but I think they should visit the Glazery on highway 6 in Missouri city. This place takes forever to get started, is expensive, and there are so controlling with the paints. Instead of just being able to grab some pottery and paints and get started, you have to fill out paperwork and list in advance what paints you want to use. Then, you have to try to track someone down to get a refill. Just a horrible system that doesn't just allow kids to pick out paints and have fun. No music played...and on top of it all we were told "we saw you helping" our 6 year old daughter so we were charged another sitting fee. We had my twins birthday party here. We had 20 kids and they only had one person helping get the paint and directing the party. Very disappointed in the service. I would not recommend this place for birthday parties. For some of the kids this was the first time attending a place like this. I would've hoped that the person that was helping would have explain to the kids that they don't walk away with their pieces at the end of the party and they get it a week later. We were told we can use the microwave to warm up the food. When I opened the microwave it was dirty! At the end of the party we were asked if we wanted to leave a tip for the young lady that was helping us. I think that's rude to ask if we want to leave a tip when we've already paid for the party room and the kids paint pieces. At the start of the party my husband tried to get the owners attention and he was right next to her and she still would not look at him. The party had started and we needed her help with something and she was rude and unprofessional. A few days later My husband spoke with the owner and she was not at all apologetic. This place was the worst I've ever been to. It's so crowded and hot. I went with my fiancé to paint little ornaments for our home and wanted to leave about 5 minutes into it. I had to stop one of the employees, who by the way was the sweetest to us, just to ask if the old woman was the owner. She said, "no, that's the owners mother." If the owner sees this, please help your mother by showing her how to treat your customers kindly. My fiancé had never done anything like this before so he had questions to ask her and she always replied rudely and acted as if he was dumb for making her answer his questions. I found out about this place because of Groupon. Mother's Day was my first time coming to this store, though I've been to Mad Potter in Meyerland previously. Just like Mad Potter, you go into the store, pick your ceramic of choice, pick colors to paint by writing on a sheet of paper, wait for someone to bring you colors, and then you start painting. In terms of choices, the variety of ceramics was better than Mad Potter. I'm personally not a figurine person, but love to cook. I was pleased to see there were lots of kitchenware options. I gave 2 stars for service (considering amount spent) and lack of supplies. You're given 1 sheet of a paper towel for the entire 2.5 hours! There's only 1 person who can really assist with detailed questions (e.g. what blue is closest to Delft blue?), which on a busy day, can be frustrating. It was a completely packed house (total of 8 tables) except for 1 table that sat empty the 2.5 hours we were there (reserved for 6). I found this odd because when I called about 1.5 weeks ago, no reservations could be made. Perhaps this was an empty table awaiting people, but Mad Potter would've just put 2 parties of 2 people at the same table (which wasn't a problem-better to sit and paint than not at all!). I brought my piece from Mad Potter because I wanted my soap dish to match, explained to the lady that I used sponges and wanted to use the ones sitting on the table. She suggested using sea sponges, & I was willing to try. However, she never brought them. About five minutes after having paint but no sponges, I decided to help myself to the sponges. When I was 80% done with the first coat, she came and said, "You should really try the sea sponges. Those sponges aren't for painting." I said, "Well, I don't have them." She said, "Those sponges aren't for painting" and went to get the sea sponges. If she wanted me to use the sea sponges, she should've brought them! Am I supposed to rummage through their stuff to find something I do not know? She returned with the sea sponges, explained a third time the sponges I was using were incorrect, and how to use the sea sponges. I did initially like the sea sponges. However, the edges failed to give clean stripes, so I ended up getting the other sponges anyway. I noticed she did not say anything more & just glared. It's not like they can't be washed! There's only 1 person who can really get you paint (there were about 25 people painting), and you're not getting a lot in the first place. I was given enough paint to coat half of one stripe for a small soap dish, and that's it. This means I have to wait for the said person to be free to get more paint. Most of the time we had to get up to get paint. I realize this sounds like I am over-complaining, but it's really hard to get up when your ceramic piece is wet. You have to figure out how to set down your wet ceramic piece without ruining it so you can get up and ask for more paint. This means I'd then have to go back over the smudged places, which means I am just wasting more paint. I initially asked for 4 times the amount of paint, was told that I didn't need it for a small soap dish, and I ended up needing five times the amount of paint I was given, which means I just had to wait for the one person to bring paint each time. There's a lot of waiting involved due to lack of help. Mad Potter would've had at least three staff members on a weekend day to help grab paint and assist with questions. When we were done, the staff asked if we had written our names on the bottom. My dad had indicated before leaving and waiting outside that he didn't want his name on the bottom. He just wanted a solid blue deep bottom dish. The staff about two or three times suggested he should write his name, and I kept telling them he didn't want to. What happened to the customer is always right? Do they not have a solid system in place to ensure people pick up the right pieces? Mad Potter didn't care if you had your name on the bottom or not; they have a reliable method to ensure people pick up the right pieces. Compared to Mad Potter, I have experienced better, so two stars it is for this encounter. I should note afterwards, my dad had a hard time with his piece. Apparently there was a mishap with the firing, and the blue didn't glaze consistently. Unfortunately no one called to tell us this, so when he showed up, he was told to return because his bowl had to be re-fired. He showed up again, and it still hadn't been fired right. The store said this may be due to the pottery, so they repainted a different bowl altogether (different shape since original bowl out of stock) & fired. He finally got a bowl on the fourth trip (once to paint, 3 times to pick up). Again, there's no phone call prior to picking up (you just show up in a week), so I docked another star. I took my 20 month old to do a hand impression in clay and was very impressed. The owner helped us and was absolutely amazing. My daughter was SCREAMING and the owner did everything she could to calm her down and get a good impression. We also ended up doing a glass hand because it all looked so cool. Took my office here for a birthday party/painting. They weren't ready for us, and we used our time that we could have been painting to set things up for our party. The assistance during the event was fine, and we enjoyed painting our pieces. HOWEVER, one project was broken before being fired, poorly glued together, and then somehow suffered several more chips after firing. We asked for a refund for the item, and got a really hard time from the owner. She first offered a gift card (well, we're not planning to return...) then grudgingly very grudgingly refunded the cost of the piece. All in all not a great customer experience! read more
