We wanted a sit down place to eat in Watsonville after attending an event at the Fairgrounds and found this place on Yelp. We came here in a whim and don't regret it one bit. There's a variety of items to choose from on their menu but we went with their sandwiches. I ordered the Rustic BLT, panini style. I saw the panini style was an option and I went for it. I definitely was surprised how much I like it better than a regular BLT. My friend ordered a rustic cheeseburger and that thing was massive. Both sandwiches came with a side of fries. The fries were seasoned well and crispy. For the price you pay, you definitely get your money's worth. As the sign in the photo shows, they are a small business and run by chefs who cook as you order. Yes, you may have to wait for your order but I can definitely say it's worth the wait. read more

This place is AWESOME .... A true GEM! Ultra clean. Very Large portions and the food was delicious! Had a hamburger and fries were twice as much as the largest amount at any other restaurant and the burger was extremely tasty. Our waitress, Hannah, was super nice and awesome. Fantastic service, great food, and generous portions. I ordered the steak salad and my wife ordered the BLT wrap, both were delicious. The fries are really good, love skin on fries and my wife generously shared the extra crispy ones. They give you a LOT of steak on the steak salad, which was really nice. Literally would give zero stars. The server was beyond incompetent. It seems like she never has been in a restaurant let alone given people basic things, including silverware and water. We ordered after a long wait, in the most uncomfortable way. She couldn't enter basic things in to her computer. The iced tea had clearly been sitting and had over-brewed or was stale. We then waited for bowls of clam chowder, claimed to be award winning. When it was brought to us over thirty minutes later it was luke-warm and had a formed a layer. She then let us know the pesto pasta we had ordered 30 minutes earlier couldn't be made since they didn't have any pesto. She offered our vegetarian daughters brisket Mac and cheese over and over. When we settled for Mac and cheese without meat, 15 minutes later we were brought stale noodles with cheddar melted over it. Clearly microwaved. Only two of the clam chowders ever came. We were told four times the other two bowls were being warmed up. Microwave again? We left without eating after an hour of waiting. read more

I couldn't finish the burger. When they say half pound they're just being modest. Also the clam chowder was really good. The fries are made from scratch and they give you a really good amount. What's best is that this is all reasonable in price. My burger was about 13.99 bucks and my half order of soup was 3.99. Where else can you get more food than you can eat for under 20? The staff is kind and we were helped promptly. It got busier as we were there which was nice to see. The setting is a mix of cozy and posh. Listed as dog-friendly, but I was asked if my dog was a service dog and if I had documentation to prove it (which is illegal to ask). When we first got there it was empty. We sat ourselves down and got menus as it took a bit for anyone to greet us. We browsed the menu and based on past reviews we went with the clam chowder and hamburgers. The meat was so bland. Yes the portions were good and the fries are hand cut but the hamburgers had no flavor what's so ever. We fried the mushroom Swiss burger and the bbq burger. Nothing extraordinary. They charge extra for cheese or am certain veggies on your burger. I had asked for cheese and they forgot to add it on. The clam ch was the only good thing we got this day. Pluses were that the food portions are huge. I had a bowl of clam chowder that was really large and delicious. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato on sour dough. It was so huge, I took half home. It was FULL of bacon and delicious. It also came with fries that were very good (Even if there was no ketchup offered or on the table). Now the negatives. The restaurant was completely empty at 1130am on a Tuesday. When I walked in the waitress came in behind me from being outside of the restaurant (For what? I don't know). She said hello and went in back. I believe it was the owner, walked out to ask if I had been helped and I said No. He sat me. My waitress was as she put it herself "out of it". I had to repeat my order twice. When she brought me my food all at once I had to sit my sandwich aside because I wanted to eat the soup first before it got cold. I actually had to sit everything aside as I waited for her to bring me not one but two sets of silverware/napkins. I had to remind her it was only me sitting at the table and she agreed? I ate my lunch all by myself in this nice, big restaurant. Overall, the food was really good. I just wish the service had been better. I never was asked during my meal how it was or offered a to go box. I had to go up to the counter to ask for that and my check as my waitress was sitting with another employee talking about how exhausted she was. As I left, I told the gentleman who had seated me that the food was delicious, but he needs better staff and that I worry that they won't be around by end of year. My son had the Rustic Burger(pictured in the background), half pound, char-broiled, juicy burger. He loved it! Left only one bite! The Mr gave the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich a go. Grilled chicken breast on a roll, chipotle mayonnaise, Choice of cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Last but not my daughter ordered the large clam chowder so we can all try it. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, the clam's weren't overcooked or tough, and the consistency of the soup was exactly how I like it, creamy and substantial but not too thick.  Also, the ratio of potatoes and clams to soup was perfect. Large portions! I I had brunch there this last weekend. I had high hopes after seeing the reviews. But I was quite surprised to find the breakfast I ordered was one of the worst I've had in a long time. The place has a great name but lots to be desired. The country potatoes looked kind of dark as if they were soaked in oil ,no flavor, the muffin supposedly had butter but it was not. It was Terrible the eggs were over done and nothing was very desirable. The other plate was a hamburger melt on rye bread. The bread was soaked with oil and not toasty. The hamburger was tough, fries were left since they looked and tasted as if they had been made a day earlier. All the food was bland. I won't be returning. normally the everything is good at the Rustic- however there is a manager named Randy who has changed the whole out look of the restaurant. He even made the employee's sad. I will not dine there again due to how he treats the customers both in the donation center and the diner.
