I've been working in Manhattan for 10 years and I guess I've been going to an overpriced men's hair salon because Johnny Mo cut my hair better than I've ever had. I got a ton of compliments from everyone. He was fast and meticulous. Very impressed. I'm opening a hair transplant business in a few weeks down the block so I figured I'd try out a local place for my hair and I'm glad I did. Will definitely be back in a few weeks. read more

I only gave 1 star because it's required to write a review. I have never been to such an unprofessional salon not have I been so disappointed with someone's work. Minerva was my "stylist" but she was far from one. Apparently she's the curly hair "expert" but she's far from that too. I met her the day before my appointment to show her my Afro kinky hair and to see if she can wash,color trim and blow it out on my birthday. My hair is about chin length fine hair so it's not much to do. it wasn't my first time getting my hair blown out but I wanted to make sure that she could do it. She reassured me, through a translator, that she could. When I arrived for my appointment, she was doing someone's hair, understandable, it's a salon so that happens. After feeding the meter for my car for 45 minutes, Minerva walks past me. I asked an English speaking staff where she was going and she responded "to lunch." Someone must've said something to her because shortly after she came over to me. I wanted The top of my hair dyed a brownish red and the back died jet black. She put the brownish red dye on my hair and then went to lunch. when she returned, I asked her, through another staff, if she was going to dye the back & she said yes and that I should relax. Long story short, she never dyed the back of my hair and lied to the manager that she did. I wanted to walk out but it was my birthday and I just wanted to be done and leave. She proceeded to blow dry my hair with no heat protectant and when I asked her she said that's put after. Really?! Wrong. When she trimmed my hair, she would take a section, trim it and then curl it with a curling iron, take another section trim it and curl it. After she was done, I noticed that each section was a different length. I also wanted my nape cleaned up and the shaved the back much higher than I asked and crooked. She knew she did something very wrong so instead of offering me a mirror to see the back of my hair, like you're supposed to do as a stylist, she simply stated "OK mommy finish." When I told the manager he's replied "she wasn't supposed to do that" as if it was my fault. I had to get one of the barbers (who was great) to straighten out the line which resulted in my having a very high under cut. I was so upset. Not only did I spend 5 hours of my birthday at this salon, this woman lied about rendering services she didn't, she told the manager that she's going to kill him in response to having to do my hair (even though she agreed the day before) now I had to style my own hair. It was a horrible experience. read more

At this point, I have tried and given this salon more than one opportunity to change my opinion of them but this is by far one of the most UNPROFESSIONAL salons I have ever gone. The first time I went in I made an appointment online and when I came in for my appointment with Minerva she had no idea that I booked with her and I waited an additional hour before she started working on me. All that aside the work that she did was really good and I decided to go back. The second time I went in I once again made an appointment and again had the same issue, but again my hair came out well so I was satisfied. The next couple of times after that I went in I saved myself the problem and just called in shortly before to make sure she had the time. That worked for a while until I decided to give my hair a break from heat and had not been back there since March of 2019. For the last 2-3 months, I have been trying to get time to come in for a blow-dry to only have the MOST FRUSTRATING experiences. The first couple of times I called they said she was busy which was understandable. My frustrations started when I called to ask if she had time and was told no BUT I could come in later I can hear them confirm with Minerva that this time works for her so I moved around things so I can make the time that best fits her schedule. When I went in at the agreed-upon time she was servicing 2 other clients one of whom was getting her hair dyed. When I explained that I was the one who called I assumed she would've been prepared for that, she was not. She said she was running a bit behind and if I could come back in like 20 minutes so I left and sat in my car 20 minutes and came back in. She still wasn't ready. So at this point, I take a seat by the window and start waiting for me after about 45 minutes of waiting I got up and said I would back on another day. I called 2 days later to try to go in again and no one answered the phone so I decided it wasn't meant to be and I would go elsewhere. Fast forward to the past 2 weeks I have called more than one time earlier in the day to see if she had to time to do my hair and each time I was told that I should come in later. Twice this week I have made plans with them over the phone to come back in later to be told when I call shortly before the agreed-upon time that "Minerva is done for the day". Which all leads to today's incident. I called the salon at around 1:30 to see if Minerva had time today and was told she was very busy but later she had time. I had this conversation more than once before and I knew not to get my hopes up. The girl on the phone took my name down and said I could come in at 6pm which was fine with me. Fast forward to 6:10 I was running a little late so I called to let them know that I was on my way just looking for parking, to be told that "Minerva is leaving" to which I responded "WHAT?!" she brought another person on the phone who just said "Yeah, Minervas done for today she's going home." to which I replied "You told me to come in at 6, so explain to me why she isn't going to be there to complete the service?" to which I got a sorta shoulder shrug response basically saying tough luck. I am absolutely upset because this isn't my first time experiencing this but it's just upsetting that they don't value customers enough to show them decency and respect. read more

I use to be a very frequent client, I'd go about every 2 weeks or so. I trusted this woman who did my hair every single time. I had beautiful curly hair but i use to go and get my hair dyed constantly but my hair pattern stayed the same, the curls were never altered because of the dye. My hair was still curly and alive until one day i decided to just do like a Keratin kind of thing to help tame my hair. So the lady who did my hair Minerva let me not forget to mention she'd UNLICENSED to do hair.. but anyway she recommended me this other product that wouldn't last 6 months like keratin but only 3. So i wanted that one cause i didn't want my hair straight for too long so she explained to me she had this really good product from Dominican Republic that would tame my hair and 3 months later I'd have my curls back so she made me pay 40 to the salon for the labor and 20 for her personally because it was her personal product from DR which the salon didn't even know she had and used on people. Highly wrong! She left my hair fried!!!! It's been over a year and im just not starting to get curls but my hair was literally dry fried and dead.. didn't even feel like my hair. My hair would literally rip off in the shower and felt dead.. i have white girl hair not kinky Dominican girl hair i really don't know what went through her damn head when she decided to put that product in my hair.. if she WAS LICENSED she would know my hair texture doesn't match those ghetto cheap products. So after that i went to speak to the owner wife Alejandra explaining that im a very loyal customer and they all knew me cause i was always in the salon she paid no mind to me and tried to blame it on the hair dye and she said there was nothing she can do about it it's not her problem, she brushed it off like it was nothing. Terrible business terrible management ever since then i haven't stepped a foot in that shitty salon! Be careful who you trust with your hair because they don't even have people specialized in hair working for them. Definitely do not recommend this place owners aren't even the slightest bit friendly and the workers not licensed and have no idea what they're doing. I should have sued for the damage.
