I've been getting my haircuts from Winnie for about 10 years now and she is my go to hair stylist! She used to be at Salon D'Kariant, across the same plaza, but now she's at The Salon For U. Basically I'll continue to get my hair cut from her wherever she goes! Her rates for cutting long hair is very reasonable( about $45). She's friendly and is able to cut your hair according to whatever style you want it to be. She also understands how to cut Asian hair! We have been using them now for several years. They are conveniently located near us and very friendly. We use specifically one hairdresser who cuts my wife, son, daughter and my hair. Her name is Joyce and she is excellent. She is not only very talkative but does a very good job listening to your needs and cutting your hair to your specifications. Believe me, not all hairdressers or barbers do that! Their prices are reasonable and hours are decent. Overall, I like this place and will keep coming back. read more

Definitely a great place for what you pay for. We've been coming to Susie to get our hair cut for quite some time and get our nails done by Queenie. Cleaning was great, haircuts are always awesome and they're really inexpensive compared to the rest of the salons in the area! Convenient location! The only reason they're not 5-stars for me is because I think the polish is of low quality. They were chipping within the week! They were able to accommodate me pretty quickly during a holiday time which I imagine was pretty busy. So, possibly good for drop in appts. I have wavy hair, not straight (or curly), I don't believe the person who cut my hair had a lot of experience or at least effectiveness w/ curly hair, so I personally would not return but they were good otherwise / would recommend for straight or straighter hair. Karen, in particular, goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and always has a great attitude. First off, let me start by saying that I'm extremely picky when it comes to my hair. I haven't had many positive experiences with salons. For some reason, they never know how to cut or style my hair. Anyways, this past summer I was desperate for a big change, and I began searching for the best salon in the area. That's when I heard about Salon for U. I had a bunch of friends that highly recommended their services. So, I finally gathered the courage to set my fears aside and book an appointment. I brought in pictures of a specific hair cut I wanted and requested for their top hairstylist, Susie, to cut my hair. She was very outgoing and attentive. The experience as a whole, was fantastic. Not only did they assign a person that didn't know how to cut Asian hair but they also had one of their employees laugh and making fun of the matter in Vietnamese behind my back (assuming I wouldn't understand!). So I just moved to Jersey a few months ago and was looking for a new place to get a haircut. I was looking on Yelp for a place in the area that was not too pricey and found this place. When I made my appt over the phone, the woman who answered was very nice and answered all my questions. When I went for my cut, I had a sweet lady named Joyce cut my hair. I LOVE her. She did a great job with my hair and did not get scissor happy. She did exactly what I asked. Everyone else I encountered at the salon was very nice too. The prices are very reasonable as well. 5 stars for haircuts! I've been getting my hair cut here for years and they've done pretty well! Got my prom makeup and hair done here a long time ago and was also pretty pleased! But I just got an acrylic set done here for the first time and...I am not pleased, unfortunately. The nails are too thick which throws off what was an otherwise just alright square shape (something I'm not used to on myself, I tried to look past the unfamiliarity and look at the nails just for what they are). Everyone was really nice and accommodating, but the end result just wasn't as great. Now, I forgot the name of the woman who did my nails and there are various nail technicians here, so that doesn't really help. I know that there are returning customers who love their nails and I wish I was one of them, but that just isn't the case. Chic salon, exceptional service, and very skilled and careful hair stylists...those are the three ways I would sum up my experience at Salon for U. My virgin Asian hair was in need of some de-virginizing highlights--this would mean that I have to go to a salon I could trust to deliver a good job on my stresses. A friend of mine recommended Salon for U, a place that she's been getting her hair done at for years. It was a 30 minute drive from where I was, but looking at her stylish hair, I said OK and went. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly and was offered coffee or tea. Suzie, my hair stylist, asked me what I wanted and I told her exactly--"full foil thin-stranded highlights, with a shade that's a lighter than my hair but still looks natural". Suzie then, worked her magic and delivered. She delivered a full set of highlights that was stunningly what I wanted. I've received multiple compliments so far, which is a testament to how well she did. (Thanks Suzie!) The rest of the staff were super friendly, the service was welcoming from hello to good-bye and the prices were very very reasonable. I got a manicure there too and it rocks. I will definitely come back! BTW, the same aforementioned friend recently got a Brazilian Blowout done for her hair and it looks beautiful. Her hair became so sleek and shiny! read more

I used to come here to get my hair cut every time I came home from break: Hair cuts are cheap, the service is pretty fast, and it's close to home. But after my last trip, I'm not sure I'll ever come back. I'm used to going to salons where the hairdressers speak a foreign language, so that part doesn't bother me (I believe most people that work at Salon 4 U are Vietnamese). What really bothered me was that the hairdresser stopped THREE times throughout my hair cut to pick up her phone. She would literally stop in the middle of cutting and walk away to talk on her phone. She was also quite liberal with her spray bottle, often squirting me in the eye without any warning, and she was aggressive with combing my hair. I don't expect to be pampered when I get my hair cut, but this place really missed the mark on the basics of decent service! read more

Only the 2nd salon I've tried in Jersey but it's hard to find a place that will cut my (Asian) coarse hair well. I've tried various cuts from short to medium (male cuts) and this place does a great job. I usually have Joyce cut my hair but Suzie and Kevin also do a good job. Kevin provides good conversation in English and Joyce provides good conversation in Chinese. Wash (with shampoo) and cut for males is $15. Affordable and usually short wait time for walk-in, though I'd stick with appointments. I recommend this place and am going in for another cut this week! read more

Went to this place for a haircut after seeing all the positive reviews here. Not quite sure why people are giving this place a 5 star rating. If I had to guess, they are fake? Here is my experience. Pros: Walk in without an appointment Cons: 1. The lady has zero regard for my ear or my head. Jerked my head around so much. Combed my hair so hard downward that she hits my ear every time she combs. As I am typing this, my ears are still red and perhaps they are a bit swollen. I wish someone would comb her ears as hard as she did to me. 2. After finish cutting my hair, she flipped the cover off in such a manner that all the hair that was on the cover are now on my pants and shoes. I had no problem wiping them off my pants, but those in the shoes are unbearable. I had to take my socks and shoes off when I was driving home. 3. Out of nowhere, she told she was finish and walked away. My hair was still WET!!!! The portion of the hair that she cut was still sitting on top of my hair. She didn't even use like a brush to wipe them off. There were so many little cut hairs on my hair that when I stood up, the hair fell inside my shirts and all over. She couldn't take like 3 minutes to blow dry my hair so I wouldn't make a mess out of myself. 4. As if the pain I went through wasn't enough, my haircut came out horrible!!! Uneven cuts were all over. I know for 15 dollars, I should not expect much, but this is outrageous. I was in and out under 10 minutes. The actually cut took about 5 minutes. Now I look so bad that I would need to get my hair adjusted at another place!!! I am not even comfortable going to with this cut. Bottom Line: I would highly suggest to avoid this place at all cost! Although the 15 dollar hair cut sounds cheap, you are actually paying a premium. A rushed hair cut (5 minutes) for 15 bucks is roughly... 180 bucks per hour. Not quite sure if she is having a bad day or not, but this experience is not what I had in mind when I walked in. Where is the half star rating when I need one. read more

I'm going to give what I feel is the most honest review. I experienced a bait and switch tactic and this came from the owner. Last time I was there, she quoted partial highlights at $60. When I went, she charged me $75. I will NEVER go back. They are the most unfriendly, unprofessional salon I've ever been to. The man who does nails talks about customers. I have an app to translate Vietnamese into English and I had it turned on in the salon. If customers knew what they said about them, no one would ever go back. I felt like I should update my review since my favorite stylist has since left The Salon For U. I haven't actually been back, because now that I get my hair cut somewhere else, I have no reason to return. I've gotten my nails done a few times here, but for whatever reason, my polish doesn't last as long (chipping by the end of the week). And I've had my hair cut by a couple of different people here ... it's alright, but not "perfect." My split ends are more noticeable after a couple of weeks, and my hair was shorter than I wanted more than once. But, they treat you well. I have been a customer on and off for 4 years and have been mostly satisfied with the service but I have always been upset about the condition of the salon, so dirty. I put up with this filth bc the prices were good and hair dressers friendly but can't do it any longer. The prices have been increased but the salon keeps getting more run down. This is literally the worst "salon" I have ever been to. The first time I went I made an appointment for my sister and I to try the SNS powder. They made me wait 15 minutes pass my appointment time and there was no one in the salon. Then they refused to let my sister and I sit next to each other (which is normally NBD) but they were rude and the one lady simply did not want to move because it was not her "normal" spot. My sister ended up loving her nails but mine looked very grainy. When I returned home a few hours later 2 nails fell completely off after spending $40.00. I called the next day and they allowed me to come in and get it fixed. After leaving that day another nail fell off a few hours later. So there i was 2 days after with only 7 fingers painted! read more

Brazilian Blowout done by Lorena was great, however the price was NOT. When inquired over the phone, the man who answered told me the price of this "hair care" was $250 (products excluded) with a $50 off coupon. Somehow, he FORGOT to mention that the initial $250 includes ONLY 1oz. of the product. Every additional ounce is billed at $40 dollars. Average hair, such as mine, requires 3oz. of the product. Once I found out, with my hair prepped to start the procedure, it was a bit too late to turn back. This visit, that was not supposed to break my wallet, considering the location and the overall appearance/atmosphere of this "salon", turned out to cost $80 more than a high end salon charges for a Brazilian Blowout without the products! Extremely rude comments about how a person looks, acts, etc. If you have to go here, prepared to be judged. Unbeknownst to them, I am fluent in the language and have witnessed their two-faced behavior. After confronting them about their behavior, I was given a half hearted reluctant apology. I am so confused about how this place got four great reviews! I can't believe someone thinks this place is chic!! It is your standard no-frills salon, which is exactly what I was looking for. I've been going to this place for a year, simply because it is so convenient to where I live. However, it is totally unhygenic and poorly managed. Hygiene: 1. They do a sloppy job of cleaning out the pedicure tubs. I've seen them clean them out after customers before me and it is basically just a water spray down with the hose. I've been to other salons where they sanitize the tubs by wiping them down, but don't expect that kind of cleanliness here. 2. I used to get waxed here because it was very reasonably priced but now I know why! They double-dip (dipping the same stick that has touched skin into the wax pot) and they don't even hide this fact! I got a Brazilian and I got a pedi right afterwards. I was sitting in the pedi chair across from the waxing room when I saw another customer walking into the wax room and get her eyebrows and lip waxed WITH THE SAME WAX that I just got a Brazilian with! I was mortified! I wanted to tell the woman but the salon was crowded and I didn't want to cause a scene. Instead, I told the lady who waxed me that she should not have done that and she just blew me off like it wasn't a big deal. Seriously, this was the grossest thing that I have ever seen and I have never been back to this place since this incident. If you're the type of person that sits on the toilet in port-a-potties, you probably wouldn't mind this completely unhygienic salon. Management: Totally unprofessional. I understand you want to take walk-ins, but customers who have an appointment should be seen at least relatively close to their appointment time. I used to come here regularly for my mani/pedi just because it was so convenient. At least five times I have waited more than twenty minutes even though I had an appointment. One time I even waited 45 minutes! I had nothing planned so I just sat around and read a magazine, but that is so ridiculous! If you don't have any open slots in your schedule, don't take appointments. If you are completely booked with appointments, don't take walk-ins. Doesn't this seem like common sense? Apparently it is rocket science for this management to understand this concept. I can't comment on their hair stylists since I have never gotten my hair cut here. However, if you are looking for a basic nail salon within this price range, there are so many better places in the neighborhood.
