I decided to go to this salon after reading the previous review. I had a good experience and a lovely haircut from Danielle.. she was very careful and meticulous and follow my requests religiously. One of the best haircuts I've had in years. The location is kinda weird.. half the spaces in the strip mall are empty and the salon doesn't have a clear sign on the exterior. One of the best salons in the area. I have been going here for YEARS. They always have the latest products to try, as well as the most up-to-date technologies in hair color. I trust my hair to Helen ONLY these days. I haven't strayed from them (except for my thermal reconditioning), and I always get compliments on my haircuts and my color. They are very reasonably priced, and are always running promotions and sales on new products and services. I am writing this review because I hope to save another customer from getting burns/scabs on their neck from perming fluid. No towel was put between my neck and the plastic cape so perming fluid ran all around my neck and chemically burned me. My blouse is stained blue in several spots and my merino wool sweater also has a large blue stain. What could the teacher been thinking? I do not blame the student as there was a so-called teacher instructing her to put in perming rods going the wrong way, not seeing that the sides of my hair were cut evenly and not cutting/perming my hair to make it into a flip. I drew three sketches to show what I wanted. I went back within 24 hours, the very next day only to be scammed by the alleged manager, Jeanette, who permed the entire front of my head again--this should've been done the first time it was permed as my hair almost immediately flopped over onto my forehead when the rods were removed and after the second perming it was a little bit better but still flopping onto my forehead and the perm was flat against my neck around my entire neck which I explicitly did not want. I learned this when I got home for the second time. Then, a large ball of mousse was finger-combed through my hair to hid the unevenly cut sides and the permed ends that were sticking up all over my head. Scammed twice in less than 24 hours so I wrote a three page letter to the Hair Cosmetology Board in Newark, NJ because I drove over 80 miles--20 plus miles each way to The Salon from Red Bank--paid tolls 4 times, tipped the student $8 and any untrained person in the street could've burned my neck and ruined both haircut and perm--and clothes--like the Salon chose to do by not properly instructing their student; there was no positive instructions/directions to this student; this is not her fault but what the heck is going on with The Salon managers/students encouraging student to do the wrong and dangerous thing to a 68-year-old seniors neck? Go to another beauty school to pay $45 for a perm where the school properly supervises their students so that you do not get chemically burned; it was very painful. I have been going to this salon for years now, but recently they have made several changes that frankly, I am just fed up with. My mother, my sister, and myself have all gone to this salon for years, but I am the only one who still goes because both of them have been disappointed enough times. Over the years, the haircuts have never really been what I explained/wanted, but I enjoyed the experience enough that I still went to DNA every time. Although, I would find myself coming home and end up just redoing most of the hairstyles myself. Normally, I am not one to complain about haircuts, seeing as it always grows back anyway so it is not the end of the world. However, last week I had had enough. When I called to make an appointment, they had given me two options for different hairstylists (both of whom I had never been to before). When I told them which hairstylist's time worked better for me, they informed me that this hairstylist charged more ($45). But I told them, "oh no thank you, I usually just pay around $38 (it used to be $31 but they began raising prices), so I will make an appointment with the other hairstylist." When I arrived at the salon, they had made a lot of renovations. One of the hairstylist had set up her own clothing business right in the salon, which I find to be tacky in a salon. When I sat down for my haircut, the woman did not ask for what I wanted and just started pulling out the shears. After I explained, I am only in for a trim, I don't want too much length off, only enough to get rid of the split ends. I had been working for a long time to grow out my hair. She then began cutting. Now, she never once showed me her idea of what "a couple of inches off" was and before I knew it she had cut off about double of what I explained I wanted. She completely changed my look, and not for the better. Like I said, I am not one to complain about haircuts because I know it grows back, but I have never been so frustrated with the way my hair looks, not to mention, besides the length, it is just a bad haircut overall. When I went to pay, my total came out to $42. I was shocked. I had specifically said on the phone that I did not want to pay that much, hence why I even chose this haircutter to begin with. But I guess they had still continued to raise prices. Not only was I overcharged for possibly one of the worst hair cuts I have ever received, but I was fed up. This salon has made several changes over the years and not for the better. This may be my own fault, since I did not wait for my normal hairstylist, but I was leaving town and needed a haircut so I thought any would at least be up to salon standards. But I have reached my limit, and I would no longer recommend this salon to my closest friends. Although they are all wonderful people, as a business, I have become a disappointed customer with the changes they have made. I recently moved to the area, and was trying out different salons. I called DNA and asked for a blowout. They asked me which stylist would I like to go to, and I said that this would be my first time there so I don't know anyone yet. I forget the name of the woman they booked me with, but she didn't try to make conversation and seemed kind of grumpy. When I went to pay, they charged me $37. I was confused because they advertise the cost of a blowout to be $30. The receptionist said that when you book with a more experienced stylists, they are more expensive. I told them that they should have told me that on the phone when I called. I thought it was kind of sketchy that they booked me with one of the most expensive ladies, especially since I was only getting a blowout (which anyone can do). It's also unfair because on their website and in their brochure it said that a blow out was $30. I felt like I was being taken advantage of. The stylist also didn't do that good of a job! She put way too much product in my hair that made it look greasy. The place does seem clean and nice though, that's the only plus. read more

DO NOT GO TO DNA SALON, ITS A DISASTER, so is there customer service.... I got my hair done two weeks ago. The woman that was doing my hair was working on three other clients while working on me, she did not care about my hair. I got a double process which i always have done and because the woman initially doing my hair was so busy working on three other people, she had two other girls working on my hair while It was suppose to be her. She was to busy looking for tips with the other three people she didnt give a crap about my hair. The outcome, a complete disaster!!!!!!! I walked in a blonde and intentions were to walk out a blonde, that did not happen. I had been there a few times prior so I trusted they knew what they were doing with my hair as they keep index cards for what they do. I walked out a complete candy apple red head and it was horrible...evidently, the hair dresser did not leave the bleach on long enough and didnt care, she knew it and toned over the horrible red to make it even more red, I sat in that salon for 4 1/2 hours only to come out a complete disaster. I took pictures of my hair before and after and it was a disgrace. The hair dresser knew i was not happy so she tried to schedule an appointment for 7 days later to fix the mess. It was so bad I could not even leave my home. My hair was done on a Saturday, I called the Salon on Sunday and no one answered. I had to call out of work on Monday cause it was so bad. I called for an owner on Monday morning and advised that my hair was a mess and I had to call out of work and that I was really upset. I was told the owner Helen would call me back right away that day. In the meanwhile, I had to go to another salon to get my hair fixed and spend MORE MONEY to get it fixed. After me and my hair went thru hell, a real Salon finally fixed i and they exactly what the hairdresser at DNA did wrongt. I never received a call back on Monday from an owner from DNA so I called again Monday afternoon and was advised that Helen was booked solid and she would get back to me and was aware of my complaint and and that when she had spoken to the other owners about my complaint and that she would get back to me that day, which I never received a call back, now going on 3 days!!!!! I advised the receptionist that I was not going to pay for the mess, the salon created and that I had to pay for it to be fixed and now it cost me double the money. They actually took my check on Tuesday, still without a phone call back after three days and cashed my check. I finally got a phone call back, from Lisa, not Helen on Wednesday, 5 days later. They left a message on my home phone when I left my cell phone to call me back on and they have both numbers on their computer and they just didnt want to be bothered or cared that a client was unhappy. I finally called back that night and spoke with Lisa who advised there was nothing they can do and that it was their policy not to refund clients. She actually said I should have stayed the day of the disaster to get it fixed by the same hair dresser. Are you kidding me??? I told Lisa that I advised the hair dresser that i was not happy and she told me that she was leaving at 1pm and would not stay and I would have to wait until Friday when she came in to get it fixed. The woman that phoned me was so unprofessional and so rude and would do nothing to help. She actually told me that she did not even speak to the girl who did my hair and this is now going on 5 days later. All she would say is that it was their policy not to refund money and did not care that my hair was a disgrace. I missed a day of work, they took my money and refused to refund it and it took them 5 days to finally return a call from a client with a serious complaint. It cost me more money to get it fixed by another Salon that new what they were doing and cared. DO NOT GO TO DNA, they have no compassion for their clients and only care about the money. They would send you out of their Salon with purple hair and try to convince you that it looks great. I pay for attention to be on my hair, not working on three other clients. I have pictures of my hair before the disaster, pictures of the disaster and pictures of the correction of the disaster. WORD OF ADVICE, DO NOT GO THERE...the girls at my job were shocked that they would do what they did and then be so rude in not correcting or refunding any money. They will never go there and they have advised others not to go there either. read more
