The best $25 blowout EVER! I love this salon and their policy of only charging $25 for a blowout regardless how long or thick your hair is! Considering some salons want to charge $45 for the same service - I only have been using The Concept Salon since I moved back to New Jersey! I also love the salon's easy online booking system; you can see all available appointments and book whenever you need. The salon is very modern and clean. The receptionists always offer you water or coffee even when they are busy - which in my opinion never goes unnoticed. The stylists all take their time and care about what type of blowout you want- I personally prefer Desiree. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the salon does not allow you to book your blowout with the stylist you want; they give you whoever is available which in my opinion is time consuming. If you have a hair stylist you prefer and want to go to regularly is it beneficial for both parties. The hair stylist will eventually know how the customer likes their blowout, so customers do not have to waste time in the beginning explaining or showing the stylist photos. I would LOVE if the salon allowed customers to book with specific stylists, other that I would highly recommend this salon if you are looking for a blowout. read more

Their keratin does not work!! Do not do it!! I went to The Concept Salon for a keratin treatment. I have wavy, frizzy hair and wanted to smooth out the frizz and reduce some of the waves. I've had keratin in the past and had good results, and decided to try The Concept Salon after seeing good reviews. The salon is really nice inside and the employees are very friendly. I did the four day treatment and it took about 2 hours to perform the service. As I was already having the treatment done, I asked one of the employees how their customers liked the keratin treatment. She told me they used to get a lot of complaints, but haven't in a while. I was a little taken aback but figured that maybe they reformulated their product if the complaints stopped. I purchased their shampoo and conditioner and followed all the instructions perfectly. After four nights, I washed using their shampoo and conditioner, let my hair air dry, and there was literally no difference. You could not tell my hair was keratin treated at all. I called and made an appointment to come in and show them my hair and even the stylist agreed it did not look like I had keratin. She offered to redo the treatment but I declined and requested a refund instead. I explained that there is no point in redoing the keratin treatment if the solution does not work and that it was a waste of everyone's time. The stylist talked on the phone to the manager who denied me a refund. According to the agreement they had me sign, I am entitled to a service redo or monetary refund if there are problems with my treatment and I purchased their products. There were problems (i.e., it didn't work) and I purchased their products, yet I was still denied a refund. It honestly feels like a scam. Yes, their product may be "keratin," but the solution needs to have other ingredients in order for it to actually work, and that is the expectation from customers at any reputable salon. I am very disappointed because I trusted the Aveda name (I've had good experiences with their products in the past) and I am very frustrated at the waste of time and money I endured. read more

I wish there was an option for zero stars I would give it. I have used this salon on multiple occasions for blow outs and recently went to the salon for full head of highlights which turned into the worst salon experience of my life. I have naturally dark brown hair and have gotten blonde highlights multiple times and have never had an issue. I saw Rachael on at this appointment and was told the highlights wouldn't be as blonde as the photo I brought it which I understood as I was trying to go from dark brown to blonde. In any other salon that statement meant your hair won't be as bleach blonde And ashy toned as what you expect. Not that your hair won't be blonde at all. I left the salon with brown hair with brown/ orange / red highlights randomly placed throughout my hair And the disappointment did not stop there. After explaining to the manager Lisa about how upset I was about the service. Instead of an apology or maybe a refund for the overly priced service of $355 ! To make me look like IT I was harassed for a whole day threw a phone call, multiple emails and voicemails. Stating if I posted unfavorable reviews that the salon would post their version of what happened. This behavior from The salon makes sense to why there are minimal reviews probably explaining the actually truth on what goes on. I've attached 4 photos. 3 of them are me when I left the salon and 1 is the photo I showed while entering the salon. So, I've never left a review before so this experience definitely takes the cake if I'm writing this. I drove into this hair salon from New York for a keratin treatment which includes a wash and blowout. Disclaimer: I am an African american woman and I didn't think that disclaimer mattered considering the multi ethnic photos displayed on their page but let this be a warning to any other women with Afro textured hair who may stop in here. Do NOT waste your time or hard earned money here if you're purchasing a wash and blow out! I will provide pictures below of what my hair looked like before I went in and after. Note- my hair was straighter BEFORE the "wash and blow out". I was asked "what did I expect" considering this was a keratin treatment that just "smoothens not straightens". Except my hair isn't straight at all. I had two people working to try to straighten my hair and quite honestly, I would have just preferred if someone had just told me directly, that they may not have had any experience with my type of hair before and I would have been fine. Instead I'm left with this for 3 - 4 days. Again, I do not blame the stylist or the establishment as I've heard good things from here before hence the better rating, but the cucumber infused water and smiles were not enough to make this experience a 5/5. Update: I had to get my hair redone later on in the same week just to get back to looking the way I had when I first came in to get my "keratin treatment" done. Total waste of time and money. I have been getting keratin treatments for about 10 years. Decided to try this salon because it is much closer to home. Big mistake! Thought my hair was gonna be nice and smooth for the summer but it's worse than when I went in to get the treatment! To say it didn't work is an understatement. The stylist actually ripped a lot of my hair and it just looks fried. Lots of scraggly short pieces all over that don't smooth down. I went back to show them and a different stylist redid it but I think the damage was already done so it really didn't help. So now I wasted money on the process, the special shampoo and conditioner, tips for 2 stylists and I'm losing a summer of nice frizz-free hair! Frustrating! I wish I had read some of these reviews before I booked. I learned my lesson and will travel to my old place to get the next treatment. read more

If you're somebody like me who enjoys just a simple mostly straight blowout, then you really can't beat The Concept. I've been here about 3 or 4 times now and am always pleased with my blowout. Also, at $25 you really can't beat it. They recommend a $10 tip seeing as how affordable the blowout price is, and this is standard amongst just about all blowout bars I've been to. I like the way my hair was done- single process, full head of highlights and blow out. I was not given the discount of 20% off the first service (up to $20), but when I called the receptionist after my appointment, she reviewed everything and credited my account for $20 for my next visit. I was happy with my hair- so much do that I booked a second appt within 3 weeks for another touch up, partial highlights and a blowout. When I went to pay on Sat, I reminded the woman at the desk of my credit. After much fumbling for her calculator, checking the computer, pulling out my original receipt (this took about 10 mins), I asked for my bill so I could pay- I felt this was so unprofessional of a receptionist- I mean, I had spent about $550 over 2 appointments, had booked a 3rd already, and was thinking for a measly $20, they shouldn't make such a fuss. Turns out I was WRONG- the receptionist, (actually the OWNER), told me that actually I owed THEM money. I was going to ask for the owner but it dawned on me that no receptionist would make such a fuss, and asked if she were the owner- I was right. I asked for my bill, paid it and canceled my next appointment. What a shame. Maybe they only want $25 blow out customers? I'll take my business elsewhere! read more

Although my haircut turned out decent, the hair dresser was very rude and passive aggressive. While washing my hair she asked if I had any memorial day weekend plans and after I answered she started complaining about her work hours to me. She also asked if I would like angles for my hair and when I said yes she asked if I styled my hair and I said no. She then proceeded to tell me there was no point and when I answered back with "but they'll still look nice" she gave me a snarky remark: "there's still no point". While cutting my hair, I asked how much longer it would take until it was done because I had to be somewhere soon and she nastily replied with "I don't know". In summation, my haircut was fair, nothing special, and the customer service was extremely poor. I would not recommend. read more

I booked a trial for my wedding here after seeing all of the good reviews. I had a consultant sit me in the chair, say "You aren't going to like what I have to say" when she let my hair down and then persisted to tell me that in order for it to look remotely good I would need to cut 5 inches off my hair, because it would look scraggly if she did it the way it is. The stylist next to her also seemed to think this was appropriate and chimed in. Not only was it completely unprofessional but they completely made me feel self conscious. This is the last thing anyone needs to feel, let alone for their wedding. I promptly left. If I could give them no stars I would. I can't speak for the whole salon but this says something about who they are hiring. Also they have a "what you should tip" sign which was completely astronomical! read more

Not super pleased with my blowout- just got it blown out straight. Stylist was nice but on newer side. My hair barely lasted 1 day vs 2-3 with other salons. Top of my hair was very frizzy and didn't look flattering and underneath wasn't very straight when I left the salon. A few blowout bars seem to have opened up in the area, but because this one appeared to be the most affordable, I gave it a shot. I've been to a few blowout bars in NYC that are at least $45 per appointment, so I was looking for a local alternative to the salon across from my school in TriBeCa. The salon is small because of its location, but the decor and setup makes it feel very spacious. My stylist (Alexa) asked me what I was looking for (rather than in other locations, where they show you a booklet of four or five looks and make you choose), which I liked. It feels more personal. Throughout the appointment, she was very nice and conversational. I liked how at the wash station, there was a platform for your feet so you didn't feel like they were dangling or in an awkward position when leaning back into the sink. I'm on the shorter side, so I liked that I didn't feel as though I was sliding down. The little head massage that comes with the blow out was a very nice touch. Alexa worked diligently and used two products on my hair to ensure that she achieved the volume I had asked for. She told me what they were, but never pushed them on me, which I appreciated. I know they're an Aveda salon and sell their products, but other places I've gone to have been really pushy about trying to sell me things. I sincerely did appreciate her information and her lack of a sales pitch. She turned me around so I could see my style and tell her if I wanted anything a little different. I needed a touch more lift on the left side and she did it without a problem. She wasn't huffy or offended in the least, which gave me a lot of confidence in her as a stylist. Egotism is often a problem at salons when clients aren't happy with a style. Not here. Overall, my hair came out GREAT and I will definitely be back again. Great ambiance, great staff. I am so neurotic about my hair. I need an artist, someone who knows the craft and can explicitly what I want when I get a wild idea, AND just "give me something beautiful/funky/professional/swanky" when I want to just relax. I have never felt more comfortable. My hairdresser, took great care of me the entire time, from the wash and head massage to the cut, and the blow out. And the blow out is the best I've ever gotten. The staff is all so friendly and it is the perfect place for a last minute blow out! Especially you cannot beat the price! Desiree did a great job on my hair, and my hair is long and thick and she did wonderful curls that lasted long. The only thing is that I always walk out with hairs standing up on the top of my head, probably because of the products they use, but I just go home and put hairspray on my hands and fix it, otherwise, the stylists do a great job! When my mom went, she was not happy at first but they wouldn't let her leave unhappy and Desiree happily fixed her hair. Definitely worth trying! read more

The girls (Priscilla and Colleen) made me feel gorgeous inside and out. Priscilla cleaned and shaped my eyebrows. I've had them done at more expensive salons before but nobody's as good at shaping. They look completely different and I love them. Colleen styled my hair and massaged my scalp -- my hair has never felt this soft, clean and weightless. I couldn't be happier. You can book your appointment online and there are discounts for new clients. One thing I didn't know before is that The Concept does haircuts! This is on the website under the "Salon" section, which I didn't see the first time I visited because I was looking under hair care. Colleen and I talked about some products and she was very informative. What I loved was that there was no pushiness about selling something, which has been rare given my general experience with salons. I use Aveda products sometimes and I appreciated the extra information. I'll definitely look into the new things Colleen mentioned and see if I want to buy them. Priscilla and Colleen were really kind and wonderful to chat to -- nothing like the forced conversations I've had at some places. Definitely the best salon I've been to in a long time. Can't wait to come back! UPDATE: docked some stars because my eyebrow wax left me with long-lasting breakouts and zits. This might not be Priscilla's fault (e.g. maybe there's a change in my skin's sensitivity, maybe I was sensitive to the wax, etc). I do not recommend going there for a color service. My natural hair color is brunette, I haven't had it colored in years. I explained that I wanted a balayage service, with the end tips being a light blond. When asked for a photo of what I was looking for, I did a Google search for "balayage brunette blond" and found several photos that would work, which I showed the stylist, Rachel (and attached here). I was told that, due to my hair being so dark, my hair may not get as light as I would like after 1 service, it may be more of a caramel. Never having had balayage done before, I didn't question the fact that Rachel painted all of my hair with lightener, but for three inches of root, or that she used foils. She removed the foils and all of my hair after the three inches of root was 1 shade of blond. No definition, variation, etc. I thought that maybe there would be additional coloring steps after that. Instead, they used toner, blew it out and I was done. I was disappointed in the results, but I didn't want to complain. I thought that I just wasn't used to the blond and needed to give it some time. I tried to learn to love it. After three weeks I had had enough and decided to call the salon. I sent them pictures of my hair, as well as some of the Google images. Their response was that my hair absolutely looks like what they would expect from a balayage service, that there's nothing wrong with the way it looks, and that I should come in for a glaze. A glaze, according to them, would make my hair look more like what I saw in the Google images. No thanks. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Terrible customer service. read more

Came here because a friend recommended it for a wedding I was going to. Really nice salon with a great friendly staff of girls. Only paid $25 plus tip so it was super convenient and affordable. The experience was good but I have to say I was NOT satisfied with the final product. I got a blowout and then also asked for some curls. My stylist was super friendly and claimed blow outs were her speciality so I was super confident and excited about how it would come out. Unfortunately, I was not happy. I have been to this salon 3 times my 1st experience was awesome I got a blowout parted to the side and curled for a wedding. 2nd time horrible I went in for a braid and explained I was going in a jeep with no doors and needed it tight, the person that did it had no idea how to braid and got help from another employee. If I make an appointment for a braid, the person who is doing my hair should know how to braid! It fell out from the time I left the salon and went 1 mile down the road. I called and explained my situation and they gave me a $10.00 credit thats what they charge for just a braid style no blowout. 3rd time went for 2 braids going into a pony my hair was damp so she just dried a little and I was charged $50.00 because apparently now a pony ia an updo. I have never heard of that! I also purchased a product that was 26.00 and the total came to 93 and change so I guess I was charged extra for the braids as well as a 50 pony tail!!! Update: A person from the salon (lisa) called me because she had read my review on yelp and she wanted to know what had happened. So I again explained what happened and she apologized that the stylist didn't go over the price with me. She explained that they are trained to go over the price with the client so the client isn't surprised when they go to pay the bill. I am still unsure of the reason for the phone call . I was not offered a gift certificate, I was not offered a credit. So beware: if going to this establishment when you get in the chair make sure the stylist knows what they are doing and ask how much!!!!!! It was 70.00 for me to go in with damp hair and get 2 braids and a pony tail! As you can see in the picture the parts arent even straight. Extremly unhappy!!! read more

My hair is thick, but i was pleased with their patience, suggestions, prices, and length of time. I love Aveda products and also appreciate how they show you what exactly they're putting in each time. They offer you refreshments upon check in and are very prompt with appointment times. my daughter is a biracial teenager with coarse curly hair and she has been going to The Concept Salon since August when she got her first keratin treatment and several follow up blow out appointments. Her hair is softer and more manageable since she got the keratin treatment. The only thing that I have a small issue with is that I you can't choose your stylist, however my daughter's hair always looks great (she has had three different stylist so far). I got the keratin treatment for coarser hair types 10 weeks ago. The first 4 weeks were good, curl and frizz were significantly reduced but right after that my hair returned to its normal state. I was disappointed in how little time the treatment lasted after using the shampoo and conditioner they told me to buy to make it last longer. A keratin treatment should last at least 3 months. I decided to go back into New York City for my keratin treatment this time because I need it to last for it to be worth it. read more
