I discovered Taylor c. on TikTok, and thought i would give her a try since she looked really good. I had my appointment the day of prom so I was super nervous, but she did a phenomenal job! She was so sweet, and she made sure I was comfortable throughout the appointment. Not only that but she made sure I loved it before I left. As someone who has gone to this school many times and every time I was satisfied with the results no matter who ended up doing my hair. Which was 2 ladies. And my next appointment would have been a 3rd. Simple because either the student left or kept being unavailable for personal reasons. Well not anymore. After having gone to the school numerous times without a single issue. Now they no longer work with males. So with having a scheduled appointment I was called and told we will not work with you anymore unless you know your specific stylus. Well I've been bounced around so much and the person who I was scheduled with left I don't know anyone. But apparently within the hour they made a sexist discriminatory rule to no longer work with males. Now I received the first call from a receptionist and asked for a call back from an actual person who can answer legitimate questions. The person who called me back didn't do that. I have a right to be upset. What ended up happening is the beyond rude person who contacted me back refused to admit the new practice was both sexist and discriminatory. Basically said you don't like it go somewhere else. Took the stance on we have the right to refuse service to anyone. And that is true and that's fine. But the reality you are limiting the students the ones you're actually trying to teach. I've don't nothing wrong in anyway shape or form. I don't know why this has come about but the way this was handled was beyond unprofessional. As a paying customer. Due to the numerous rescheduling I've allowed. ( today was the first time I had to reschedule ) It is better I go somewhere else. Now for those who plan on going to this school. Be cautious. It is apparent your teachings will be limited. After leaving my number multiple times with no response, I reached out on Instagram. They claimed they never received any calls or voicemails, and when I sent them a screenshot of my call history, they blocked me. I'm writing to express my deep disappointment with the experience I had at your salon. It was a complete and utter waste of my valuable time. When I scheduled my appointment, I was very clear with the receptionist: I wanted a wash, blow-dry, and curl, and I emphasized several times that I have extensions. She assured me that I would be scheduled with someone experienced in working with extensions, and I was told Addison would be the right stylist. However, when I arrived, it was immediately clear that Addison had no idea how to handle my hair. She looked at my extensions as if they were something she'd never seen before and even asked if I would prefer someone else with more knowledge. I said yes, hoping the situation could be salvaged. What happened next was humiliating. The manager and three additional women came over only to inform me that no one in the salon could do extensions--after I had made this clear when booking. I sat there for over 30 minutes while they stood around me, telling me they couldn't help. It's hard not to believe this was rooted in a deeper issue--perhaps not knowing how or not wanting to work with a Black woman's hair. Regardless of intent, the outcome was the same: I was disrespected, dismissed, and embarrassed. I used to go to Ogle for over 20 years and switched to TSPA, it's much more professional, cleaner, wait time is less and the teachers all have a great attitude every time I have been here. I would highly recommend it especially for color, cut, shampoo and styling! I had Silva the entire time I have been coming, she is graduating this month so I will be getting another student soon. Asked for curtain bangs and I was quickly asked what length I wanted them and my fault I gave the wrong answer that was too short but the instructor didn't go over the length with me she cut it so quickly without hesitation. It looks horrific. With curtain bangs you should know what length would be too short and it is half my fault because I said the wrong answer but you shouldn't do it so quickly bangs are very delicate. This is a review of TSPA DALLAS from the perspective of a mom (licensed cosmetologist) and her 17-year-old daughter who was enrolled at TSPA. Communication with admissions was very slow from the beginning. My daughter decided on TSPA Dallas based on the location. It wasn't her first choice, but it was closer to our home. The first month was good and she liked her instructors. However, after only 4 weeks, it was time to begin taking model clients (friends and family). She felt very unprepared after only 4 weeks of minimal hands-on instruction. She was then expected to begin taking paying clients after only 6 weeks of minimal and inadequate instruction and training. Having gone through cosmetology school myself, I was disappointed in the level of training and instruction she was receiving. Inevitably she decided to withdraw from the program and drive an additional 20 minutes to a different cosmetology school with more extensive hands-on technical instruction than what is offered at TSPA, and she is happy she made the transfer. The instructors at TSPA were great and very friendly. I do not have issues with the instructors. I just think the program is designed to get students onto the floor, taking paying clients, as fast as possible. Ready or not. Once she withdrew from the program and the withdrawal process began, communication with administration was extremely slow. We had to send several follow-up texts and emails to get any information or answers about transcripts and refunds. If you are looking for a technical and hands-on cosmetology education that properly prepares students to successfully perform hair services on clients, I suggest looking elsewhere. Updated to add: We did receive an accurate refund and official transcript within the promised time frame (30 days after her written withdrawal notice.) read more

Awful Experience at TSPA Dallas from a Student: I cannot express how disappointed and disheartened I am by my experience here. From the moment I enrolled, it was clear that this institution had no interest in providing quality education or a supportive learning environment for aspiring estheticians. The instructors were not only extremely rude but also showed blatant favoritism towards certain students, making it abundantly clear that they had their chosen few and the rest of us were simply an afterthought. I was shocked to find out that many of these instructors had little to no educational background or qualifications in the field they were supposed to be teaching. When I sought guidance and asked questions, they dismissively told me to "look it up" and "research it" on my own. If I wanted to learn everything by myself, I wouldn't have bothered paying for a supposed education. Perhaps the most egregious aspect of the program was the complete absence of proper esthetics instructors. Instead, we were forced to rely on cosmetology instructors who clearly lacked expertise in esthetics. It was a joke to see them attempt to teach anything related to skincare, and as a result, I suffered from burns several times during practical sessions. They provided nothing more than a building to accumulate the required hours for TDLR licensing. Even that was made unnecessarily difficult, and it felt like they were deliberately trying to impede my progress toward graduation. Despite my unwavering dedication and never encountering any issues with clients or instructors, I was treated as an inconvenience. Throughout the seven months, I spent here, I felt nothing but awful, both mentally and physically. The lack of support and guidance from the instructors took a toll on my self-esteem and passion for esthetics. It is truly heartbreaking that an institution that claims to educate and shape future professionals can be so callous and uncaring. I would strongly advise anyone interested in pursuing a career in esthetics to steer clear of here. It was an utterly disillusioning experience, and I owe none of my success to this school. The lack of professionalism, the disregard for students' well-being, and the failure to deliver a comprehensive education make TSPA Dallas a poor choice for anyone serious about their future in esthetics. If you genuinely aspire to become an esthetician, I implore you to find a different school that values its students and takes their education seriously. I believe everyone deserves a chance to thrive in their chosen career path, and TSPA Dallas falls drastically short of providing that opportunity unless your goal is to be a cosmetologist, in which case, they might actually pay attention to you. read more

Went for my appointment was made in person on July 8th a little after 4 pm in person . ( I know because I had a service done that day!) Get there today and surprise ...I'm not on their books and they can't get me in! Was really debating about going back because the bleach was left on too long last service and fried parts of my hair. Which I was told today can happen if it's left on top long and it was on those spots but I'm not a professional and the "instructor" didn't seem to think it was an issue then. I say " instructor" because they have to be tracked down and then they have to wait for them to be free which may have led to the over processing. Also July their ABC Treatment was supposed to be half off. I noticed a few days later that I was charged full price and I called. They said keep the receipt (I did) and it's be taken care of my next visit except they CANT because no one is authorized to do so. No one is incharge there on the weekends. I had been a client for YEARS even when they were much smaller and at a different location. Ms. Anna was very handsome on back then but now she's got other locations and this one has gotten crappy! ( My opinion). Pay a little more and go to a real salon that knows how to treat clientele and has great customer service! Have to wonder if the coursework is ran any better. read more

Today was my first time coming here. It was an amazing experience! I had Miranda touch up my roots, wash my hair really well, and blow dry it out while curling it out at the ends. She was very thoughtful and listened to me when I wanted a specific color. My hair smelled really nice with the finishing product she used. Worth the drive! I drive from Saginaw to get my hair done here - that's how great it is. I have gone from long natural dark hair, to shorter grey, and back to dark brown with red highlights - in less than a year - and my hair is way healthier than when I started my coloring journey. Alaina is an amazing stylist, and Ms. Celeste is so amazing and knowledgeable. Every time I have gone in for an appointment the atmosphere is positive and I can get my hair done in confidence, not only because i know the teachers are there to guide my stylist through whatever process, but it is also very clear that Alaina has the proper confidence and knowledge as well. On top of all of this, the price is AMAZING. If you're looking to get your hair done, definitely give this place a shot, you will not be disappointed. read more

Came here last minute to get my hair styled for a wedding and Crystal (at least I think that was her name) took care of me. She's a sweet girl who worked diligently to get my hair how I wanted. She's quick, too! I loved my hair when she was done with it and it was only $16! The loose curls lasted all night, too. :) Tip well if you love your service. As a student learning from TSPA, I can guarantee that if you are a POC, nobody in the entire school will have any idea on how to treat your hair. We do not carry any products or tools to help achieve what probably most POC come in to do. The only thing the school MAY know how to do is flat iron your hair. There is nothing at this school that will preserve the integrity of 3b-4c hair. Educators haven't the slightest idea, other than the basics. Students are not even provided with a pick in their kits. If you have 3b-4c hair, DO NOT come here. It's appalling how I had to learn to treat black hair from my friend and not an educator. Nor are they willing to learn because for years they haven't done anything about it. If you have straight, perhaps slightly curly hair, your needs will be met. I would not recommend. I went in for full highlights and cut. Even though I have been getting my hair done the same way for over ten years now, the instructor acted annoyed at what I wanted. After the student and instructor tried for one hour to figure out what to do, I called my previous stylist (out of state) and had her explain what she did. She alternated blonde/brown foils. The instructor did not come back once to check on my hair, and I was there from 10 am to 5 pm!! After a weird toner was put on my hair it had orange tint - so I asked for it to be fixed. I sat for almost an hour while they decided what to do. I ended up with mousey brown hair! I could have done the cut myself. Once home I noticed not only did I now have mousey brown hair, it also had an odd green tint to it. So - I had to pay for this mess, and then go to a salon and pay again to get what I asked for. That salon noticed the green tint and didn't know what they did but told me it definitely was an odd coloring put on my hair instead of the blonde/brown alternated foils. She also cut alot of my hair to get rid of the odd color. I understand students are learning, but the customer is also paying. The instructors need to be more involved and supervising and at least check back once on the customer. read more

My friends got married in a civil ceremony, then planned a huge party on their spacious back patio. Everyone was so excited for this Party of the Year. Invitation said "casual," but the bride is not the "casual" type. I wanted something more interesting with my normally straight and boring bob - yet I didn't want to overdo it. Found a picture online of Mary-Kate (maybe it was Ashley, they are interchangeable), with "beachy waves." Brought the picture to the salon and asked Casey the stylist for loose and "casual" waves. She used setting spray, a curling iron, and hair spray, and she was done in 30 min. It was BIG when she finished, but it was a humid day, and the outdoor party wasn't for another 6 hours (had to get there early to take photos). The waves relaxed over the day and held up well after 6 hours outside and a few hours of dancing. Got many compliments, and no one could believe it cost $6! I think all I can do with $6 these days is eat at McDonald's. The online services menu said special occasion styles are $23, and they wrote up the service for that amount. But Casey told the front desk since she only used a curling iron, I should only be charged $6. I wouldn't have known any better if she hadn't said anything. I really appreciate that. read more

I love to change my hair color, so paying 100+ for a pro color is not ideal for me, however I LOVE having my color done at the SPA. Even though they are students, they are supervised by an instructor, and they won't let some girl who just started a day ago do a foil highlight on you. Its the senior students doing more complex colors. I've never got my hair cut there and probably wouldn't, but for color this is the ideal place to go! I'm a former cosmotology student myself, and I feel completely comfortable letting 'students' color my hair! read more

A consummate professional, Kaley Allen, a third level student, wowed me with her knowledge, composure and friendliness. I will follow Kaley to wherever she goes after her July graduation, but what a great experience for a first timer at The Salon Professional Academy! For $60, I am absolutely floored. This included partial highlights, a chemical shot for rejuvination and cut/style/blow dry. I've been getting my hair professionally done since I was 14 and have NEVER enjoyed such a great deal. FUTURE ESTHETICIANS RUN!!!!!!!! ZERO STARS!! First of all TSP has no motives what's so ever to help you succeed with your esthetician career. I'm not complaining about foundations because the teacher we had was great and very knowledgeable. You leave foundations hyped to actually get on the floor and do hands on treatments. Once you are on the floor then everything is just a down fall from there. One, you are sent off to a teacher who knows nothing about anything but lashes & how to gossip about her students. Two, everyday TSPA brings new rules and regulations that don't align with the student handbook (which we all signed durning orientation). Three, once you get closer to graduation day expect to get in trouble for every little thing. Just an FYI the more days you attend after your graduation date the more money they take from you. If you are short on hours they attack you and find reason after reason to suspend you and accumulate even more hours. The more hours you owe the more money they get. This school has to be one of the most unorganized & UNPROFESSIONAL academy. I can say about 90% of the estheticians regret attending here. Here's a list of things they should consider changing for future students. - Follow the student handbook - TREAT EVERYONE EQUALLY!!! If you are going to hand out write ups be consistent and quit favoring certain people. - Appreciate the esthetician course or simply just get rid of it - Pay a little more attention as to what your "teachers" are doing (Half of them are to damn lazy to do anything, they are always eating, hanging out in their office, & talking crap to other students about students or simply gossiping) high school is over, grow tf up. - LACK OF COMMUNICATION!!!! -Once they are over their budget, they no longer provide you with products to use on clients or to practice on other estheticians. LIKE HELLO WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THE CLIENTS SO YOU CAN MAKE THE MONEY YOU ARE SO DESPERATE FOR! Oh and this school requires you to have a doctors note if you want to be drinking water throughout the day. Lets not talk about the old ass equipment they have us using on our clients. Point is. Don't go here. Like ever. Run, go allow another school to teach you without bringing you down half the time. The most hype you receive is when they are trying to convince you to go here. I decided to save our family a little money by going to TSPA. My hair stylist was super sweet, but it took FOUR hours to get my hair done. Had I realized it was going to take so long I would have paid the extra money to get it done in a decent amount of time. I was at the salon from 12:25-4:45. I lost most of my Saturday. If you don't mind it taking this long to get your hair done then by all means get your hair done here because they really did a good job but my time is precious to me. But I will warn you about one other thing... Like I said, my hair stylist was super sweet but one of the educators in particular was not very friendly in the least bit and completely unprofessional. Her name? Shirley. I heard her more than once in a rude manner talk about how "the salon closes at 4:30". She suggested to the client in the chair next to me that she needed a chem shot, but when time was running out basically denied the service because they were closing. When my hair was almost done (FINALLY) she told the hair stylist in front of me that she needed to hurry & not spend too much time fixing my hair. How unprofessional to tell your stylist to basically do a botch job on the client? At least take your stylist somewhere else and tell her to be quick. I ended up with two stylists straightening my hair in the end. My hair turned out great, but I will likely not be returning to TSPA unless it's just for a simple haircut. That part didn't seem to take as long or maybe by then the time wasn't an issue anymore. read more

Oh where do I begin this tale of woe. I had been to TSPA previously with acceptable results. The student that I had worked with most recently in Nov. of 2014 who had done a good job on my color, wanted to give me a major haircut. I decided 2015 is going to be my year of change so I called to book a haircut with H and was told she would be off for approximately 3 weeks. L, the receptionist recommended J, who is a friend of H's and they started at the academy at the same time. I went in several days later for my major haircut. I hadn't had a major haircut in at least 4 yrs simply because I didn't know what I wanted to do with my hair. I advised J that I wanted my one length hair that was halfway down my back, cut in layers with the longest layer ending at my SHOULDERS. Instead my hair was cut in multiple UNEVEN layers with the longest ending at my collar bone. I have waited some 3 months to complete this review to see if I would feel any differently and I don't. It is really sad that the students apparently are not taught anatomy at this school. Actually, none of the Beauty Academies are actually "TEACHING" . I have a friend whose daughter attends a different school and told me the students are pretty much on their own at any of these schools. The only reason I patronized a beauty school was that I could pretty much walk in and obtain service. As luck would have it, through the wonder of FB, I managed to track town a REMARKABLE colorist/stylist that I had lost contact with. I realize TSPA is a teaching environment and the students have to get their experience somewhere. Let them experiment on someone else's head, NOT YOURS, just say "NO". read more
