Best steak EVER!!!! I'm from Tampa and it's better that Bern's Steakhouse! Pimento cheese with fried pita bread was amazing! Quaint little place, $$$ but VERY much worth it. So nice, you would think it should have had It a dress code, but it didn't. It was a perfect for our anniversary dinner! We had the pimento cheese app ( soooo good) that we couldn't finish, split the HUGE 16oz Ribeye ( did I mention the BEST STEAK EVER!) seared to perfection (medium rare) with green beans and whipped garlic,mashed potatoes , 2 extra house salads and 2 teas ( btw they have a wine & beer menu too). Our bill was only $100 and we left stuffed with boxes to go! Service was top notch! The restaurant is about the size of a smaller Starbucks and located in a small "downtown" building. We are always looking for a good place to eat in Marianna, FL. Well I think we finally found it. My husband and I were down from Birmingham , AL to see my mom and she lives close to Marianna. The food was excellent the service was excellent. I was sad they were out of Crem Brûlée and the cobbler that our waitress described and sound so good. But they made up for it by giving us another fantastic choice the Carmel cheesecake. To die for! I have included pictures they speak for themselves and anyone that has A5 Wagyu on their menu better know how to cook some steak. My husband and I had the filet, mom had the NY strip all cooked to perfection. The vegetables and salad fresh and locally grown. The atmosphere was enjoyable with background music not so loud that you feel like you are competing with it to hear your company at the table. Laughter and chatting throughout, casual dress for fine dining making it comfortable as well. The pricing was very reasonable coming from Birmingham where we have some very nice places to eat in my opinion The Salt Block is very good. I hope the community embraces this restaurant so that I can enjoy it again when I am back down. read more

The Salt Block pretends to be an upscale, high end restaurant. sadly they're not. My wife and I visited the restaurant for the first time to celebrate our 30th anniversary. For an appetizer, I ordered the smoked tuna dip garnished with picked onion (I think) and capers. The tuna dip was a bit salty but was otherwise good. However, the capers seemed to be either burned or fried but were inedible. I mean nasty tasting. For the entree I ordered pan seared diver scallops, which comes with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My wife had the Chicken Garcia prepared with a honey pecan drizzle, mashed potatoes, and a vegetable medley. After waiting 45 minutes our dinner came out. I was quite surprised to see there were only four scallops about an inch and a half in diameter. At $64, that's quite a price for small scallops. plus, they were under-cooked. instead of searing them on both sides as is the proper way, they appeared to only be seared on one side. very disappointing. the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, another disappointment. the asparagus was good. my wife's fried chicken was dark brown and obviously over cooked. it was boneless of course but was very tough and was dark meat, not the breast meat typically served. plus, I never saw a pecan. maybe it was a honey pecan flavored drizzle. Regardless, it was not good. her mashed potatoes were also instant and tasted like typical instant potatoes, cardboard. Her vegetable medley was typically under cooked that my wife hates, but is pretty standard at upscale restaurants. the positive was the fellow named Jessi Roberts who played guitar and sang. He sang a lot of 70s songs and his Al Green impersonation was spot on. overall, the place is way over priced but not very good. At $131, it surely was no value. I don't want to eat bad food for free, let alone pay a small fortune for bad food. read more

Did not expect to find such a hidden gem in a very aged small-town area. It looks like they are trying to build the town center back into a cute area to walk around. Some boutique shops and antique shops in the area, but not much else. Had the filet mignon which was seasoned and cooked to perfection. It came with mashed potatoes and I asked for the vegetable medley instead of green beans. The veggies were also well-cooked and delicious. Did not much care for the bacon jam on toast appetizer, but the dinner made up for it. Very small, intimate place. Make reservations as they turned walk-ins away even without the tables full. The steak was prepared perfectly so that it practically melted in your mouth as your tongue danced from the seasoning. The mashed potatoes were whipped into creamy perfection. I tried the pesto shrimp pasta, the shrimp was huge, seasoned in a lemony butter sauce and cooked just the right amount of time (way too many restaurants over cook their shrimp!) but the pasta itself left much to be desire. We found The Salt Block to have a small town feel that serves big city quality food. There IS NO EQUIVALENT in Marianna. As a party of three we sampled a scallop entree, a ribeye, and a filet mignon. All were delicious and cooked to perfection. The seasoning popped with flavor yet it allowed the true flavors of the meat to come through. For starters we were served a very nice salad accompanied by 'melt in your mouth' warm soft bread that was delicious. We also ordered a delicious lemon cake served with excellent coffee. What an awesome find in this little town! The owner/chef is very hands on and checks in his customers. We chatted one visit and found learned where his passion for food comes from. You will not leave disappointed. Really really good egg roll appetizers in December and no they're not your usual type. The lemon chicken pasta dish is heavenly as was the steak for two we shared on another occasion. Get the hummus, it's beyond good! Making plans to go again tonight! All Prime cuts of steak and were cooked to perfection, good choice of wine but some selections of steak and wine were not available. The appetizer took an hour just to get out to me and my family they are very slow. The appetizer was good just took so long for it to be delivered. The waitresses are super slow, every time we've needed a refill they were never to be seen. The prices on the food is ridiculous. Our waitress is slow only see her every 30 minutes. So after 3 hours of waiting on our meal, ordered the Maple Bourbon Bacon Burger it was not the best Burger I've had before. On a scale of 1 through 10 I give it a 4/10 I left the restaurant with very bad stomach pain. In my own families opinion would not go back. read more

Based on another review here and the reviews posted on their Facebook page we went today for dinner in high hopes for good steak and a fine dining experience. Boy were we in for a surprise. The personnel clearly lacking experience in the hospitality field also had no training as it appears. The waitress was more what you'd expect in a diner. So after taking our order she came back with water which then was never refilled until I asked another server who was happy to help. Never in my days have I ever eaten a cooked cold steak till today. The peroccini sauce was way too salty, the beans over cooked and the mash taters the seize of half an ice cream scoop with some rosemary growing out of it. The steak had wilted edible flowers on it and I asked for medium rare which it was not. The steak was hard to cut and had little flavor. So as per the last guys five star Review all I can say is that I have had better in the panhandle even at a "local joint" called Olle's. The service was an abomination and the waitress cared little to ask or make up. Far from fine dining when asking for wine and no taste is offered but rather the other guests drink as an option to find out. The silverware is also not fine dining no tablecloth like in fine dining and the staff a far cry from fine dining. It could have been a great place locally for good or maybe even excellent food but not when they get busy like today; food and service suffered greatly and we also did not see the chef and the wife was sparse at best. All in all a big disappointment and not sure that I would return to take someone there from out of town for another fiasco. See picture of to go box for a not eaten 16oz steak and sides! Really??? I concluded the server did not like us as others who came in two party's after us, got their side salads before we did. We waited 25 min for the water refill, 40 min for the side salad and then before we had eaten the salad the steak arrived, mind you mine was cold. Let me see if I can do this without setting off alarm bells. My wife and I were treated to dinner here for my birthday. Since it was free to me, I'll say it was ok. I had the chicken and grits and it was really good. The rolls were good, salad was ok. The egg rolls were, let's say, different. Not a fan. Service was exeptable. Now, for the steak my wife had. A $40 filet mignon...burnt with char on outside, full of gristle (others at the table too), I've never seen a filet cooked like that, and quite honestly, Longhorn cooks a much better one. We heard such good things about this place, that we were really disappointed. We wish you luck, Marianna needs places like this. I'm sure there are enough people that dont mind spending $40 for a steak for you to survive. But, if we want a steak, we'll stick to Longhorn or cook them ourselves. read more
