Needless to say, I'm still a loyal customer and have never been disappointed with a haircut or beard trim in all my years of going to Donna, dating back to her previous location that was less convenient than her current one directly on the ocean side of PCH. I have always found Donna pleasant and accommodating, not that she can magically make appointments on short notice - she's popular and busy...duh. Why wouldn't she be? She has a clean and well-located shop, she knows what she's doing and her prices are quite reasonable considering what her rent must be on PCH in Corona Del Mar. She's also very easy on the eyes, if anyone is allowed to notice such things anymore. I'm a harmless semi-old man now, so perhaps it's OK....lol You can't please all the people all the time, but I also wonder about the motivations and attitudes of those that write negative reviews. Perhaps a look in the mirror would be informative for them? For me, I'm just glad Donna and her shop have managed to survive the "Pandemic". That's says something right there because many good businesses have not been able to do the same.

The chairs are super comfy. The barbers don't bother you if you don't feel like talking. You don't feel obligated to have to converse. When I arrived for my first hair cut, the barber asked me "Would you like me to clean you up?" I said "sure". I was a little apprehensive and thought "maybe I should be a little more specific on my end." What he did was shape my hair perfectly and evened out the messiness from the previous full cuts. I was so impressed. Granted, this means I have to get my hair cut more often but the prices here make that possible (best prices in town). Since then I have tried 4 of the varying barbers. They are all amazing in their own right. They are all comfortable instituting their own style. It's too small for me to notice but I can notice there is a subtle difference. The best part about it is the confidence: it allows you to feel really good about your hair. I know that if I leave it unstyled that it will still look great. Although when it is styled, it looks the best.

Such was my day, In Newport the other day. I visited a friend at his office with a view of the Pacific Ocean and the bay. Both views were peekaboo's however, delightful, and fun. Then I cruised into my favorite fish shop - the Crab Cooker - and got a small slab of albacore with some tartar sauce. Lunch handled! Then I looked at Yelp for barbershops in Newport Beach. Sure enough - Byrd's Nest came up. I read the reviews and all were quite good earning them right near five stars! I cruised in myself to find out more and sure enough, the stylish young gentleman Barber named Josh Ochoa was available and ready to go. I used their app (Vargaro) to check his availability before cruising in. Josh took great care of me, even a slight discount for paying cash, I was cleaned up and ready to go in a matter of 50 minutes. I had a beautiful day in Newport. Walked in, got accepted as a walk-in, and had a cut with David, great guy. I've been doing my own cuts for years, so it was nice to actually sit in a chair again. Fyi the shop is a little hidden, although I found that part kind of fun, a little exploration in a town I didn't know was nice for a change. It's behind the Duffy rental dock. If you're on Main Street, pull in and keep going toward the dock, there's parking there. Inside, it's quiet and chill. Oscar, the owner, was great to talk to. The place overall had very welcoming vibes, not standoffish or "too cool". A mom was leaving with her two boys as I walked in. I'd bring my son here for a haircut for sure, which might be soon.
