Prices here are absolutely ridiculous. They price things far above their actual value. A t-shirt (from an upscale brand) is 12.99, USED with stains. A collar shirt from brooks brothers for basically $40. Again, can find these on ebay for 15 or less, and at other salvation stores for under $8. Most staff don't speak any english & are not particularly nice. Would NOT recommend. I find it jarring that a thrift store is pricing some items at such high prices. At the end of the day, it's used clothing. If it was a designer name brand, i'd understand, but it isn't. read more

The Salvation Army in Port Chester New York is an atrocity. I thought it would be fantastic because they have two colors a week that the prices are half off and one color that is a dollar. Meaning that anything tagged with certain colors are on sale. If you want to find anything worthwhile, you have to spend a very long time digging through the clothes and the shoes. They have most of the handbags and wallets locked up behind the counter and when you ask to see one they give you a very nasty attitude. The bags are priced between $30 and $300. However, they don't seem to understand the worth of brands. There was a no named brand for $300 and a coach purse for $55. When I've asked to see a couple of the bags it turned out that they were not authentic. The housewares and trinkets are so outrageously expensive that I think that I might have made disapproving sounds out loud every time I turned over a mason jar and saw that it was five dollars. Between the high prices and attitude of employees I would not suggest shopping here. read more

A bit on the pricier side for a Salvation Army but I think that's due to the fact that it's in Portchester which varies in extremely high to dangerously low incomes; the range of customers and their backgrounds is also apparent in the stock they have Bilingual workers, very helpful and kind! This thrift store causes a lot of conflict within me. On the one hand, I love that it's cram packed with all sorts of interesting items. There's three floors of home-wares, clothing, books, shoes, etc., and you can easily spend hours perusing and hunting for a deal. My main gripes with this location are as follows: 1. The parking is not ideal. You can either park at the marina and walk over or you can pay for street side parking. I usually park at the marina and walk, which isn't a big deal. But if you're handicapped or of limited mobility you might find the parking to be an issue. 2. Like other reviewers have mentioned there are no dressing rooms. I think it's pretty crazy to not have a place to try on garments. I know my measurements and I can generally safely eye-stimate my purchases...but not everyone can do the same. There should definitely be a place for people to try on clothing, even if it's just a restroom. 3. This one is going to seem weird but...the smell in here is pretty awful. I don't know what it is but it smells like a combination of mildew and dirty diapers. It was predominantly in the women's clothing section and it cut my shopping trip short because it was overpoweringly bad. Gripes aside, I like shopping here. I collect and use a lot of midcentury home goods and I wear primarily vintage clothing. I always manage to find something cool when I visit and I think most of the items are priced fairly. I haven't had any bad experiences with other customers or management, so I cannot attest to how factual the reviews stating such things are. I think if you have low expectations and don't mind rummaging around a lot you'll have a good time here. read more

A veritable goldmine of polka records, corduroy slacks, plaid blazers, old lady windbreakers with those ugly Gucci medallions from the 90's and more than a few copies of Lee Iacocca's autobiography. On the positive side, the place was clean and not too cluttered. However, I can't see myself going back after the prices I saw. 12.99 for Ann Taylor loft? 8.99 for very used Old Navy pants? Purchased a few vintage drinking glasses for a project. There was a set of four, two of which had no chips around the rim, so we brought those to the register. At checkout the employee picked them both up simultaneously with one hand clanking them together to look at the price underneath (both of them?). Them slammed them roughly onto the table to wrap them. On our way out it occurred to us that one might have gotten chipped, and maybe we had a chance to swap it for a different glass. When we brought it up with her she got extremely angry and started yelling at us. Management came over because the clerk was literally screaming and we explained our concern with her. Management wasn't helpful and didnt listen to us so we just left the glass there. It wasn't the 50cents, so much as the time we spent finding the right piece which instantly got destroyed for no reason. Solution: if employees don't want to be bothered wrapping delicate items carefully, just have a small wrapping station for customers to do it themselves. Or ask customers to do it themselves, would have been happy to do so. read more

When I first stopped in I didn't realize there were three full floors! The second floor is women's clothing and the third is men's. Unfortunately there are no dressing rooms available which does make me less likely to buy. The first floor has some home goods, shoes and accessories but the pickings are very slim. If you're looking for clothes I would recommend stopping by on the day they are on sale, otherwise I found some of their prices good but others a bit steep. Beware I got a parking ticket for my meter being 1 minute expired, yes 1 minute so make sure you are refilling you're meter before it expires or expect a $35 parking fine waiting for you. Overall I would come back again to checkout the clothing on the sale day as I'm sure I could find some good quality items. read more

STAY AWAY! We went to Salvation Army to shop for vintage clothes. I tried on a play suit which a woman proceeded to put in her cart the moment I set it down. I asked the woman to return it, and she denied having done so. At the register I saw her try to pay for the play suit she took from me. She became angry and irate when I brought it up and physically assaulted my friend after becoming irrational and screaming that we were racist. Management was useless and told us we couldn't come back. We called the police and pressed charges- the police confirmed that it's a bad store where dangerous people shop and that incidents like this happen at least once a week. read more

My only point of coming on here is to mention how rude the female that met me at the rear of the store was when I dropped a few items off. My wife had the same experience today and in speaking to friends and family, they have had similar experiences with the same woman. I refuse to bring any more items to this location based on the way that I was treated by this store's staff- there are better places to bring your stuff without the attitude. read more

The good thing about this store is how big it is. With three floors, there's so much to look through. There's a huge variety of suits, fancy dresses, and skirts, among all the jeans and other items. The prices aren't too bad. One nice gala-esque gown was about 25 bucks, but some skirts were 15. The HUGE downside is the fact that there isn't a dressing room. There's no where to try on clothes. I didn't even see a bathroom. It's such a large space that I was extremely dumbfounded that they couldn't find room for a dressing room, even just a curtained off area. I didn't end up buying anything for this sole reason. Also, the staff was a little grumpy, it seemed, but it could have just been that day. All in all, if you're fine with not being able to try on clothing, then give this a go, just remember it's a thrift shop, and not everything is in great condition. read more

Uhh..Just had them pick up 2 coffee tables, 4 chairs and an area rug. First, I had to book the appointment one and a half months in advance. I guess it's good that they have so much business but in the interim my apartment was cluttered. That was OK though. I didn't mind waiting all considering. Everything went smoothly on pick up day with Sarah in customer service/dispatch. She cares about the customers it seemed to me and gave me a time window. It was the driver Jose who was rude or maybe a better word is annoying when he finally arrived. He first had a parking issue. So Sarah called me to the scene, to the parking lot to determine where he can park. That was easy since he could park almost anywhere!! Why was this an issue? I've had Raymour and Flanigan and Macy's trucks in and out of this complex and they never had parking issues! Next problem...he told me I have a lot of stuff. Meanwhile all my items were small and why was that a problem anyway? So I found myself explaining that the items weren't that big. Why was I explaining? I submitted all items in writing beforehand! Next problem...He asked me if he can bring a handy truck (or something like that) with him. I said to him, "I don't care how you do your business. You can remove the items from my apartment any way you want." He said, "What do you mean you don't care about our business." OK, so next problem...He insinuated they have to see if they will take my things. OK, fine. I understand. Now I am striving to be good enough for donating things. It turns out everything was in pristine condition of course. Otherwise I would have just thrown it in the garbage! He probably should have just said nothing and only said something to me if my items were not in good condition. Next problem-his helper asked me if the glass to my coffee tables were removable. It was 18 inches diameter of glass. It's so small already. Why dismantle it I am saying to myself? So my answer was "Probably." I mean they are the furniture experts. Don't ask me. Next issue..Jose said this was not his normal route and I was added last minute. Great. Now it seemed like he was doing me a favor. I told him I scheduled this two months ago! So that was basically it and I shut my front door on their faces literally and said thank you. It just seemed to me that everything was an issue whereas they should be thanking me for donating! I just handed over like $1000 of my personal items for questions and comments having nothing to do with me!! My total time spent with Jose and helper was 7 minutes tops, I kid you not and I couldn't wait to get rid of them. If people hate their jobs, I often wonder why they just don't get another one. read more

Very disppointing. The place has changed over employees in the past. Their attitude is very poor. In particular one young latina who wears glasses who works behind the register. She comes off as she down her nose upon every that works there and she would rather be any place else than there. Very sad, very sad. read more

Went in on a whim. Looking for slacks and a shirt for a baby shower that i have to attend. Found a pair of slacks that still had a original tags on. Picked two tops that go with it. Now just waiting for my shoes to come in the mail. Store is a decent size, three floors. Men and children's on third, Ladies on 2nd and furniture, books and electronics on first. It seems that if you go on a certain day you get a discount depending on the color tag you have. something that should of cost $20.00, became $12.80. Staff is friendly, no- body really bothers you. The only down thing was if you don't know your size, you can't try things on because their is no dressing rooms here. Some tend to try on in the aisles but there is a sign that ask them not too. There is also no returns so if you get something that is too big or small and try to return it they probably won't do it. Unless they changed their policy. I would recommend this to any body living on a budget, great finds. read more

first of all i never write yelp reviews but I feel like I should just because my experience at port chester's salvation army was just awful. I made a yelp account for this reason and this is prob the only time I will ever yelp hence my yelp username.... when I first walked into the clothing section, I smiled and said hi to the woman working there, and I'm pretty sure she scowled at me. When I was going through the racks my first thought was "oh my god there's so much cool, cheap clothes here." So I took a bunch off the rack with the intention of trying them on. I looked around, and couln't find a dressing room. Then I saw a sign that said "sorry there are NO fitting rooms so you CANNOT try anything on. Resist the temptation to take your clothes off" and another sign in the stairway that said something like, "keep your clothes ON. PLEASE don't change in the stairway." Hahaha if they don't want people taking off their clothes so badly maybe they should just add a little changing room or something? So I'm the kind of person that can't buy anything unless I try things on, so at that point I was just like whatever and put all the clothes I took down on a rack somewhere and was going to leave because I didn't want to waste any more time there. Then the mean lady working there comes after me and starts screaming at me to put all the clothes back where I found them. I said sorry I will put them back but I told her I don't remember exactly where I found each item (I took way too much clothes....). She gave me a really nasty expression and sarcastically shrugged. As I was putting each item back where I thought they looked like they belonged, she was following me and watching me like a hawk. When I finished I got the f out of there as fast as I could and I'm never going back there again. What a horrible lady. She was short, with short brown hair I think, kind of old, and Hispanic I think. I worked at clothes stores too, and yes it's annoying when customers leave a mess, but no matter what you NEVER ask them to do YOUR job....but the thing is if she just asked me nicely to put the clothes away I would have apologized for my carelessness and gladly put them away and wouldn't feel the need for a "revenge" yelp review. be kind to your customers. also put a dressing room in your store if you want more people to buy clothes. read more
