I came here hungry. I left humbled. This sandwich has strips of flank steak stir fried with peppers and red onion like the cook had something to prove. Not aggressively. Confidently. The kind of confidence that doesn't announce itself, it just delivers. Then there's the crema de cilantro and aji, which basically tag team your taste buds and ask, "You good?" Yes. I'm great. The owner is a Peruvian chef who lived in Canada and now cooks in New Jersey, which explains why this sandwich has flavor, restraint, and zero patience for mediocrity. Fast and friendly service. Clean tables and seats. And fantastic sandwiches. They're big and can get messy but it's worth the waste of napkins. Perfectly cooked, juicy steak on my lomo saltado sandwich. And my GF really enjoyed her pulled pork sandwich. We went for lunch but could only eat half of them, ended up saving the remaining halves for dinner. We will definitely be back for more! read more

I'm giving 4 stars because this is a local business and I had been really looking forward to trying it. But I don't think I will be trying this food again. The fish patty in the sandwich was flat and thin and sort of rubbery, not what I was expecting. The chicken sandwich looked pretty good and my husband ate it. The pastry dough of the chicken empanada was nice and flaky but it was mostly empty and the dipping sauce wasn't provided. The chicken in the empanada had a sort of sweet taste I couldn't identify, not a bad taste though. The yucca fritta also came without the advertised dipping sauces (see photo). It was overcooked and over-salted. The Salchi Papas Bravas were OK, but not enough papas compared to the sausage. I think that's just not a dish for me, so that's on me. Some aji verde and some other sauces would have helped a lot. read more

New spot alert! Bringing Peruvian (street) food to Maplewood. Ok, nice, clean establishment. Waiter allowed me to take a quick photo of him delivering food to a table. I ordered my food to go but from what I could see being delivered to customers were some really yummy food. I ordered a couple of chicken empanadas and the grilled cheese. I was hungry so excited to try them out. Person at cashier did say this was a soft opening and the grand will be sometime soon. So the empanadas I didn't think would be too tasty once I opened them. However once I took a bite, I will say they were seasoned nicely and then dipped in the spicy sauce took it up a level. I hadn't had grilled cheese in a long time. This one definitely took me back to my home cooked meal days. It was cheesy and good. They use 3 different types of cheeses. Looking for a quick bite, stop in! It was my first time coming into the establishment and it already smelled AMAZING! The place itself looked welcoming and had a great ambiance. I asked the gentleman for recommendations and one was the carne asada bowl. It was done within a good time and the staff was super amiable. As soon as I left I sat in the car because I couldn't wait and when that first bite hit it was so fresh and SUPER flavorful! The sauces were a great combo. Went here for lunch today after reading some good reviews for this newcomer. My problem is I don't want to spend 20 to 25 dollars for lunch which there menu for Sammies or bowls is. So I tried 2 empanadas ( one beef and one chicken) at $5 each. They were very good but still pricey for the amount of food. This is just a quick preview for I'll be back for another dose of deliciousness. It was a quick 1st visit. But let me tell you, the empanadas were so pretty in person, and delicious. The spices, just right,. The dough was light, moist and flavorful. The staff were very nice and friendly. I chatted with Jason. He and his wife own this very nice shop. The place is very clean and adorable. Jason has a mural on his wall depicting his Brazilian 1970's Volkswagen food truck. I fell in love with it. Wow, this place rocks in service, tastiness and generous portions! The vibe is positive and the ambiance is tastefully rustic with good natural lighting. I really enjoyed the yucca fries and the juicy pulled pork sandwich and an amazing drink made with purple corn that was very refreshing and unique. I split the sandwich with my visiting sister and she too was quite impressed. I'll be returning soon to try all sorts of other things on the creative menu. read more

Absolutely love this place! A real treat and incredible flavors. Try it Definitely! I had seen him at the farmers market a while back but didn't try it. Now I'm sorry I didn't, but that could have been a good thing because all winter he wouldn't be there. Their hours are inconsistent but I personally take note of the days they are open.
