As such, I switched to Luso-American since their two locations are convenient for me. Staff there are very personable, friendly and helpful. Their rates and fees are much lower than my prior credit union. So far I really like them and feel that they are a very customer-centric financial institution.

Today a check being held for 2 business days is now going to be held for 5 days and there is no clear reason why. It's especially nice when a company that acquired the company you worked with for 45 years, remains much the same, providing a similar experience with both new and team members who have remained as part of an acquisition. I had the opportunity to finance a heat pump at 0% financing through Mass Save and was able to select the bank I wanted to work with. I was thrilled when I saw Webster First on the list and chose them, even if they were out of my way as I knew the experience I would receive. Everything was as I expected...and more considering I was working with a "new" company. Bryan Talbot was right there every step of the way, helping to ensure my loan was processed quickly and efficiently. He had the paperwork prepared to save me time when I arrived, and also stayed beyond closing time as I was later than expected due to traffic. My experience was wonderful and also reminded me of how customer friendly Filene Credit Union was and how nice it is to see companies share similar values and everyone continue to service their customers in a friendly and efficient way. The worst branch, I want to tell all the customers to be very careful when you make a cash deposit…read morewith the tellers in this branch 320 Central St, Saugus, MA, 01906. I had the worst experience, I had made a deposit in cash, the teller counts the money on the machine a couple of times, and he told me I was short of money, I told him to give me my money back, I counted it, and I was missing money. I have asked the Assistant Manager to balance the teller's money and she just checked his computer she did not count his money to make sure he balanced. I have requested the video when the teller was counting my money to the assistant manager, branch manager, reginal and district manager, I was told they cannot show me the video. I am very frustrated; I trusted this branch with my money and in front of my face my money disappears and now the bank does not want to help me by showing me the video. Also, in the past I had made a cash deposit and the teller told me I was missing money, I told the teller to give me my cash back and I counted it, and I found the missing money. It seems that tellers are used to telling customers they are missing money, when making cash deposits. This branch cannot be trusted.

SMEFCU is a small bank, and yes, sometimes there are some trade-offs with what the larger banks provide for services. However, at the end of the day, SMEFCU doesn't steal your hard-earned money like the large banks by demanding fees for anything and everything. Plus, their customer service has a quaint and genuine hometown quality to it which you won't get very often from large banks who redirect most of their customer service calls to foreign countries so they can exploit desperately poor people by paying them pennies on the dollar while simultaneously depriving Americans of employment opportunities just because they don't want to have to pay a livable wage to anyone. So, don't support the big banks. They don't support you!!! SMEFCU is a great bank. I highly recommend them for all your banking needs!

When traveling my card is declined even when I notify the branch that I will be traveling and have to go through the fraud line and at times have issues with my Card and have to call taking time out of my work day. Then he took a photo copy of my license. I asked if this will be done every time because I'll be coming back regularly. He said yes. No other shared branch does this and I've been toI a bunch of different ones. I had a bunch of checks to deposit and one didn't have a date on it. He had to all the manager in a whisper. She told him they couldn't accept it. Didn't offer any assistance just nope. I then said please cancel the rest of my transaction. I called the business who wrote out the check with no date and they said just wrote it in no problem. So now I'm looking for a blue pen and another credit union who will help me. Should of gotten my photo copy of my license back as well.

Checked back next day, machine was fixed but they wouldn't print it that day because they had already done it at other branch...but were not going to send it until the next day? So they basically waited 3 days to send me my card, meanwhile zero help with their online banking app. Zero instruction about what the account features, rules and such were either. All around absolutely terrible customer service which is what I was looking for in a local bank. Will be closing this account as soon as possible and staying with online banking since their service is so shoddy
