Crab cakes one of the best .Chicken parm and blackened fish sandwich also very good .Kitchen has to work out some kinks , little slow but waitress kept us informed of progress . This was the location for The Farmer & the Fishermen which vacated the location a year or so ago. We were hoping someone would take over the location and the Gallo family from Philly has taken up the mantle. First thing is the ambiance: now running a restaurant is a tough business and profits are slim but they left the place just the same as the previous tenants. Not sure if that is the long term plan but they had the opportunity to put some personality in the place. Now it looks like a diner and we were not impressed. Now they been open for 2 weeks, you made allowances for this as their "soft" opening. No liquor license yet but coming. Our server, Bre was very good. She did her best with what she had to work with. The important part- the food, We ordered the Caesar salad to share which was good since it was quite large. It was delicious. Plenty of creamy dressing. We ordered the fried shrimp appetizer. They tasted fine but they served it with catchup and not cocktail sauce. Big No No in my book. I had the Onion Burger. It was huge and delicious. Big points there. My wife had the salmon and while cooked to her liking, she indicated it lacked seasoning or much flavor. We will be back in a few weeks and hopefully they get it together. read more

The staff is very nice.. The menu consists of a lot seafood fish options.. so not much room for people who don't eat fish .. So I would explore the menu before going. I ordered the Brussel sprouts and they were under cooked and salty as hell !! I also order the crab cake sandwich . Horrible no flavor and it fell apart . People think big is always better ... Spent 100 bucks for two people plus tip and ended up getting some take out on my way home... Oh and the lady next to me food came out under cooked . I had read earlier reviews mentioning very slow service, but decided to give The Scratch Kitchen a chance anyway. Unfortunately, our experience reflected many of the same concerns. Here's how our Saturday evening went: 6:45 PM: We arrived and placed our order. 7:25 PM: Our crab dip appetizer arrived after a 40-minute wait. It was presented sloppily, with oil pooled on top, and was only lukewarm. The flavor reminded us more of canned soup than a freshly made appetizer. During the wait, I visited the restroom and found there were no paper towels available. Toilet paper was low with no extras. 7:42 PM: Our entrees finally arrived, nearly an hour after ordering. 7:48 PM: We decided to leave. In all the years I've dined with my husband, I've never seen him walk out on a meal before, but this was the exception. The food itself was disappointing. The shrimp po'boy contained only four shrimp, several of which were overcooked, on a very large roll. The crab cake sandwich was equally underwhelming, with a crab cake that appeared pre-made, an outsize slice of tomato, very little dressing and was served on an untoasted bun. I understand that the restaurant is currently in a soft-opening phase, and some delays are to be expected. However, a soft opening should be about refining operations and addressing minor issues. Waiting nearly an hour for entrees, receiving disappointing food, and encountering basic maintenance oversights like an unstocked restroom suggests the restaurant is not yet ready to provide the experience customers expect. read more

Having grown up going to Gallo's in NE Philly, I was excited to try this new spot. They've only been open a few weeks, so they are definitely experiencing some expected growing pains, but there is a lot of potential here. What they nailed: The service was excellent, the seafood bisque was fantastic (shrimp and crab!), and the wings were incredibly crispy and tasty. They also get major points for warning us about their pending liquor license when we called for reservations. Where they can improve: The crab cake had plenty of lump meat but was pretty dry and under-seasoned. Also, despite "scratch" being in the name, the bread and fries didn't feel homemade. Lastly, the drink station wasn't fully ready (no iced tea, just soda), and the decor is still 100% inherited from the previous tenant. I understand needing to open the doors to get cash flowing, but it leaves the ambiance feeling a bit unfinished. The staff told us to watch their social media for Happy Hour updates once the bar is fully running. If they come out of the gate with great specials--like a solid buck-a-shuck oyster deal--we'll happily return to see how they evolve! read more

Early dinner on Saturday and was promptly seated. Service was friendly and efficient throughout. Food was good, husband had scallops and I had crabcakes. Portions were plentiful. The restaurant was not crowded. Bread and water was served quickly. Calamari was the only appetizer ordered and should have arrived at the table before 30 minutes. I ordered a drink and the waitress forgot . The entree took about an hour and a half before it got to our table. My pasta with crab...maybe a tablespoon of crab was in the big dish. My friends ordered the salmon with the white beans.....no beans when it was served and when asked supposedly they ran out.... Why not mention it??? The quickest was the takeout boxes for our food and the check. First and last time. read more

My wife and I just went here today for first time. The waitress was very nice and attentive but the food took about 45minute to come out. Grew up in NE Philly and this was a go to staple for senior citizens. They opened a new restaurant in Horsham and we thought we would try it out. Well, now I understand why it was popular with seniors. The food was lackluster to say the least. Crab nachos were fair to poor, weird "cheese" sauce combined with balsamic? We also tried the calamari, which I normally love, but they were barely warm, very chewy with same strange "cheese" sauce drizzled over. No lemon slices as I've had in every other restaurant. Definitely tasted like frozen microwaved food. The table also tried fried shrimp, again tasted like microwaved frozen food I could get at supermarket. The service was mediocre with no enthusiasm whatsoever. Will not recommend this place at all. read more

We had dinner there last night. Reservation at 7p for two. Brought us to a high top in the bar area rather than main dining room. We asked if we could sit in main room and were told not sure, it's busy but then found a table for us. Not once during our time there did the restaurant fill up...not even close. Manager visited table to our left and right to check on things but not ours. Mahi was dry. Chicken parm looked nothing like the videos you see on social media. It was okay though. Margaritas tasted like mocktails. Table next to us didn't like the fries, behind us returned soup (cold) and scallops. Bench we sat on not clean...had food remnants from prior guests. Hopefully this is just opening month cobwebs that will be worked out. Manager seemed genuine, waitress was good. Hope the feedback helps. It's meant to be constructive. read more

I have fond memories of going to Gallos in the northeast with my parents decades ago, so I tried a takeout of their blackened shrimp, Mexican corn salad and it really wasn't very impressive for the price. The shrimp was good. But other than that, it was just a bunch of Romain lettuce, a sprinkling of cheese and maybe half a cup of white corn. Not what I expected. We are regulars at Gallo's so we knew it was going to be good. our first time there we were seated right away, the restaurant is bright & clean. We had drinks first and then ordered our plates. The service couldn't be better, April and our server Ryan checked on us a couple times. Food was really good & hot where needed. Nothing worse than getting food lukewarm. also portions were larger than expected. We took home leftovers and have another meal. Keep in mind they just opened a month ago! The place looks the same as the previous restaurant. Thought it would have been upgraded. Maybe they plan to do more. Bartender was very nice and accommodating. He probably should call females ladies, not girls. Service was slow but food was good. I noticed they used Giant bottled iced tea not fresh brewed. I would definitely return once they get settled. We had dinner at Scratch Kitchen. My husband ordered the special which was a tuna with crab risotto. It was not written on the menu so he inquired with the waitress if the tuna was cooked all the way through. She said it was and when he got the tuna it was not cooked all the way through. He told the waitress that he couldn't eat it raw and could she take it back? A few minutes later, the cook. (who was the owner son.) came out and said it was sushi grade tuna, and it wouldn't taste good cooked all the way through. My husband told him to try it because he couldn't eat it the way it was. When the dinner came back out, my husband tried to eat it and it was horrible. He just asked the waitress to take it back. He didn't ask for anything else he didn't ask for a refund. A few minutes later, the owner came out and he was screaming at my husband. He said why did you have him cook it if you knew you weren't gonna like it. My husband explained that he thought it was a different type of tuna the type he cooks on his grill, and the owner just kept yelling at him. My husband said what were you going to do with it any way at that point I thought if you cooked it all the way through it might be ok. The owner made a big scene . My husband asked him to please stop yelling and embarrassing him. The owner was obnoxious. You would think he would have had a different attitude and been nice when you were just starting up a new restaurant. I will not go there again read more

They misspelled mozzarella on their menu, someone should notice that. Took forever for the food to come out. Got crab nachos with bruschetta tomatoes, it's shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes, don't know what they think bruschetta means but it was spelled correctly, the nachos were weren't crispy and the cheese was melted on the bottom stuck to the paper? It's very clear they just took over farm and fisherman and decided to just use everything they had. Beer selection was poor, the bar looks like they're running out of everything. I'd be shocked if this place was still open in a year. read more
