I live in the neighborhood and really have no idea why I keep trying to give this business my money. On multiple occasions, I've attempted to come in during normal business hours for an espresso drink and have been turned away because the machine is "not on." This has happened in the morning, in the afternoon, at all times really so it would appear the establishment isn't actually looking for customers. I've also been told they're out of ice and other silliness seemingly to avoid actually making drinks. Today at 3:15 (they close at 4:30,) I was told they could not make an iced chai because they've already turned the machine off and they need it to "steam the milk." For an iced chai. The Sensuous Bean is a shop near work that is perfect for exotic coffees and teas. I loved getting my chai fix from them daily. Their chai is one of the best I've had made at a shop. It is full of flavor and though it is sweet, it isn't too sweet. They have soy and oat milk for your plant based needs, which is also a plus. Some things to note... they do have a $10 credit card minimum which can be a bit annoying at a coffee shop when the most you would spend is $6-$7. Also they would sometimes sell out of chai and it would take 5 days for them to re-up. As someone who loved their chai so much, this was the worst for me. Lastly, if you're a chai lover great, but you should know it's not vegan. Their chai is made with milk. That wasn't a turn off for me, but I'm sure it matters to some. You get the deep knowledge of coffee bean connoisseurs who obviously love their jobs along with the insane variety that comes from their densely packed store. The choice of coffees is staggering. Take one look at their menu replete with flavors and you'll get dizzy. That's even before you start monkeying around with blends... I had no idea what I wanted, but after talking with the guys, they properly gauged my tastes and pointed me toward the Italian-Venezuelan blend. Luckily, they already had some brewed for me to try and its robust flavor was exactly what I needed. The service is welcoming and friendly, and while waiting for my drink, I was able to glance around at their barrels of beautiful beans and tea. Found this hidden gem on the way to bringing the dog to puppy play group. They had 3 different types of Cold Brew (light roast, dark roast and hazelnut) and quiet the variety of hot coffees and espresso drinks. Well my husband is a coffee pro and this place is top notch in his eyes. He gets there more serious blends. Meanwhile, I, someone who could never drink anything other than a latte, now finally love black coffee - no milk! - thanks to Sensuous Bean's flavored beans. The smells and tastes are incredible. My personal favorite is Hazelnut. Apple crumb is fun too. You can get any of the beans by weight, and in addition, every day, there are a few different flavors of hot and iced coffees brewed on tap. This place feels like a truly hidden gem on the UWS amidst the multitude of chain coffee shops. Upon opening the door the rich coffee smell engulfs you and at least for me drew me inside. It is tiny - everywhere you look are barrels are coffee beans. I had wanted to try one of their roasts there instead of at home and discovered you can get a self serve cup of drip coffee - they brew 3-4 varieties each day. I had the hazelnut which was lovely, rich coffee notes with a sweet hazelnut flavor and an overall buttery quality. I also tried the amaretto which was surprisingly very almondy. I didn't get beans that day but plan to come back and buy some. I really like that you can smell each of the options and how knowledgable the staff is. Only downside is that it is very, very small and there's sadly no room, except two small stools, to enjoy the coffee inside, so it's really only a to go option. read more

Mmmmmm morning coffee. Their mainstay is selling whole beans, but they brew up three blends every morning. They make small pots so your coffee is always fresh and delicious. There is never a line. I'm in and out in under two minutes most days. There is no seating so no one is hanging out and writing their novel. It's small and can only hold a few customers at a time.
