I do not recommend, especially if you are a bride…read more I called ahead to confirm if she accepted walk-ins for a consultation on altering my wedding dress, and to get a price estimate. She assured me that walk-ins were welcome. However, when I came in the next day, she never informed me in advance that her consultation would cost $20. From the moment I walked in, I noticed her rudeness, though I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt since she's an old woman. She did not offer guidance on how to adjust the dress to fit my body properly--aside from simply pinning the bottom to shorten the length. During the fitting she handled me roughly, repositioning me abruptly, and speaking in a sharp, impatient tone. When I asked her reasonable questions about the alterations, she appeared irritated and often dismissed them with 'I don't know' rather than offering helpful guidance. After I tried on the dress, she took out a receipt, writing down my name and number, as though expecting me to commit right then. I felt overwhelmed and uneasy, but I gave my information and left. That was my mistake. Within minutes, my gut told me it wasn't right. I turned around, went back inside, and said 'I don't want to alter my dress anymore'. She stared at me sharply, pointed at me, and said 'You owe me $20' while raising her voice since the beginning. I asked why I owed her anything since no work was done, she yelled it was for her time, insisting her time wasn't free. I told her I did not have cash on me. She got my dress, demanded $20 again, and said she would keep my dress until I payed. She grew louder throughout, while I remained calm and never raised my voice. After going back and forth, and me clearly stating I was not leaving without my dress, she grabbed it, bunched it up in her arms, and threw it onto the counter at me, yelling, 'Aqui esta tu pinche vestido' (Here is your 'F***ng dress' in Spanish). I picked up my dress, looked at her, said 'thank you', and walked out. I left feeling disrespected and upset. To any brides and women considering alterations, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere to avoid this kind of treatment.

She goes by the name of Angel. My son is a active duty Marine on liberty leave and needed his name patches re stitched. We brought it to a business in modesto and it took two weeks to finished and when we picked it up they sewed it on wrong. My son goes back in a couple of days we are short on time. We googled and found Maria's Tailoring and Alteration. When we arrived we told her our situation and how urgent we needed it done. She did it within two Hrs. When we came to pick it up and pay for her services she refused to take payment. We are so thankful. Our son greatly appreciates it. Her kindness should not go unnoticed. I brought it in Monday morning, and they had it ready for me by Tuesday evening, just before my interview on Wednesday morning. I couldn't be more grateful! Beautiful work, quick turnaround, and very reasonable prices. Not to mention, I didn't realize they are cash only, and I didn't have cash when I dropped it off. They graciously allowed me to pay during pickup instead. The sleeves were shortened about 3", and they charged $60 for the blazer, $30 for the shirt, and no extra cost for the short notice. I asked if there was any way we could remove the weird netting on the back of my dress and instead add a bow, and she absolutely nailed it! We ended up hemming, lowering the slit by adding a stitch right above the knee, and adding a bow to the back. She found a great color/fabric match for the bow and was done very quickly (about a week and a half). Pricing was fair!
