This place has the absolute best BBQ and even better customer service! The food and sides are all amazing. We've had the brisket, pork ribs, beef ribs, and turkey- it's all so good. We also love their loaded potato salad and pinto beans. Aside from mouth-watering BBQ, what keeps us coming back every weekend is the ladies at the counter! They truly care about their customers and it's the most welcoming atmosphere. We love waking in here because of the employees and how incredible they are! Had sliced moist brisket and the jalapeño cheddar sausage, loaded potato salad, and pinto beans. All were perfect, couldn't ask for more. Brisket had good texture, good smoke, nice and peppery without being over the top. And those beans! I could just eat a big bowl of those and be happy! Been here a couple of times now since I started traveling to Lubbock (from San Diego). I've had the brisket before, and it is as good as any well known bbq spots in TX. What really made me want to comment this time, finally, is their beef ribs! Tender, juicy... melt in your mouth kind of thing. Real fresh spongy buns in our chopped/sliced, pork, and chicken sandwiches. Great BBQ flavor. The regular sauce has a good kick, did not try anything hotter. The chicken was extremely dry, but had no other choice of white meat as they had naturally ran out of turkey the day after Thanksgiving. Both chopped briskets had a good amount of fat in them, but I've seen worse. The portions were large to me, and the price is around the same as any other BBQ place of the same level. Did not try any sides, but the sandwiches came each with a small bag of chips. Service was quick and attentive and best of all: they allowed my small dog inside no problems . The Shack has been my favorite place for barbecue for the last probably 10 years. It used to be wonderful. I've been there twice recently and both times the barbecue was horrible! They were out most of the sides both times. I ordered lean meat and it was covered in fat. It was the worst barbecue I've ever had. As not to mention how filthy the restaurant was!!! It was beyond dirty. I don't know why the health department has not closed them down. I went to the restroom just to wash my hands, and I could not believe how nasty it was. The corners of the floors have not been cleaned in forever, not to mention everything else. I was very disappointed at how this place has gone down. I understand it's different owners, but they are not taking care of it. read more
