On a whirlwind trip to Lubbock for a friends wedding, and in short need of a dinner while also on a budget, Yelp directed us to Chopped and Sliced BBQ. Boy howdy am I glad it did. The menu was very easy to read, and provided enough variety in order to find exactly what you were looking for without needing to compromise on your appetite. The waitress was very friendly and provided her opinion on local favorites without demeaning other options, always a deal breaker for me when places do that, so she gets special love for her taking care of us that night. Once our meals arrived, it was time to dig in. The food was hot, prepared exactly as expected, and in typical Texas fashion there was more than we could expect to eat in a single sitting. At Chopped and Sliced BBQ, you will never leave hungry. Honorable mention to the fried Okra. I became the star of the night as almost everyone at the table couldn't get enough of it. Also, not sure if it was a regular or one-off, but the night we were dining in there was a man playing traditional Americana folk songs on guitar just inside by the entrance. He provided a nice relaxing atmosphere for the night without being too out or overbearing for my ears. This restaurant is known for their "comfort food" and boy they weren't kidding! This place is not for dieters - and we just had to try it because of the raved reviews! The food was outstanding! My hubby had a tough time deciding so the owner maybe even cook came out and helped him decide - even throwing in a few extra eats not on the menu. Hubby ended up getting the deep fried brisket, deep fried corn on the cob and a jalapeño sausage. He loved every bite! I had the turkey and pulled pork. My meal came sauce free so you have to add their sauces. Their jalapeño corn muffin was yummy! If you want a beer or a glass of wine, you can't buy it there. We got take out. They were very responsive on the phone. There's plenty of parking and everything was ready when we arrived. The meats were very good. Well visiting from Fort Worth. Wanted some local food. Stopped at a place called Chopped And Sliced BBQ. It was great! I ordered the Chicken fried Brisket plate that came with 2 sides. It was incredibly tender and juicy. Breading stayed on the meat at you cut it with a fork. White gravy was ordered on the side so the breading was crispy and stayed on the meat as you cut the brisket. Really amazing flavor and idea to fry it. Wished I had taken pictures!!! Hubs had Pot Belly Slim (nothing slim about this!) burger (patty includes brisket) with pulled pork, brisket, cheese , pickles, onions and bacon plus side of okra. Stopped by here on our way through town. WOW! We tried it all, the brisket, ribs, smoked turkey, and sausage. Everything was nice and moist with a good smoke flavor and smoke ring. They don't just save the good stuff for the meat, they put just as much love into their sides. The Mac n cheese, fried corn on the cob, and potato salad were also outstanding. Somehow we saved room for dessert and the peach cobbler and banana pudding did not disappoint. Our server, Madison was super attentive and made the best recommendations. I am loving this! I am flying back to Los Angeles today. My last meal here had to be as Texan as possible. I found this restaurant on Yelp. Looking at the photo of the interior, it looked very local. I had no doubt this restaurant was going to be good. As I walked in, the restaurant was half full. It's very family like atmosphere. I think the server watched me as I read through the menu because as soon as I decided what to get, she walked over to take the order. I ordered 2 meat plate. Chopped brisket and black pepper sausage was my choice of meat and I chose Green Chillies Mac&Chees and Pinto Beans for side. Homemade BBQ sauce made the meat taste thousand times better. Don't misunderstand, the brisket was fantastic, sausage was second to none. But the sauce made it so much better. Portion was enough to fill you up but not over stuff you.
