The Shack was not our first choice for dinner recently, but we were glad we happened upon it. We tried to get a table at 3 other larger restaurants in Beach Haven, but were told the wait would be 45 minutes, and hour, and even an hour and a half at one of them. This was a weeknight mid-September. The Shack was nearby and we decided to try it. The young man at the counter and our server were both very friendly. The prices are reasonable, portions were large, and the food was delicious. If we weren't leaving the next night, we probably would have gone back. The menu has a good variety too. Food taste was okay. INCREDIBLY ANNOYED that we received our appetizer in a "to go" bag because it didn't come out of the kitchen until after we paid the check. RIDICULOUS. Horrible service. We ordered a smoothie bowl that came with bananas, and the menu didn't even say bananas came with the smoothie bowl we ordered. If you're paying $13 for a smoothie bowl it's worth asking to send it back, so we did. Then they were cheap enough to have the chef take the bowl to the back and just hand pick the bananas off the top. The bananas were STILL on the smoothie bowl even after he picked them off! Inconsiderate staff and the smoothie bowl was overpriced considering that it was a block of flavored ice on the bottom with a few lonely pieces of fruit on the top. Buyer beware! read more

This is our new favorite casual restaurant in Beach Haven. It just opened this season. We have tried it 3 times, twice for take out and once at a table in the restaurant. We have tried the Shack Stack Burger, the New England Clam Chowder (should be a winner at Chowder Fest), the Grilled Chicken Melt Sandwich with bacon, cheese & fries, the Classic Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken, the Steak Burrito, and the Broiled Sea Scallops with Pesto Pasta. Everything was really delicious, with Generous portions and excellent side dishes. There must have been 15 or more scallops served with the pasta. And twice as much grilled chicken on the Caesar Salad than you get at Buckalews or most other restaurants. My son raved about the Burrito and the Shack Stack Burger, and he's an expert on both. The restaurant is clean with simple decor. All the people there are friendly and welcoming. Service is efficient and quick. This place is new, so we recommend everyone give it a try. Worst excuse for an acai bowl. Frozen solid piece of apple juice ice colored purple to appear as an acai bowl. The bowl was not made to order and is not worth even half the money it cost. Cheap ingredients, shouldn't be allowed to market that they sell acai bowls. Simply put, get literally anything else. I have been here twice. I think it is a cute local place and it does have a very big menu. From burgers to pizza to spaghetti with clam sauce it goes from basic to entree type meal. I like the casual feel of the place but it is still very nice inside. I really do like that they take food allergies very serious here. I had to change my review. Just got back. This place is horrible. I would give it no stars but can't do that. First off, there must have been a change in owners. Not only was the food bad but the service was equally as bad. It took us a very long time to receive our food and then when we received our plates they were filled with food particles and dirty. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. I even forgot what she looked like. We ordered the nachos they were burned. All of our food came out immediately after our appetizer and in 5 to 10 increments of each other. I ordered the beet salad it had no flavor and no dressing. My daughter ordered the shrimp tacos but out came chicken tacos. The shrimp tacos finally arrived and she left all of them (maybe ate one) --they were inedible. My son ordered the Cuban sandwich-he is currently in the bathroom (sick) and the fries tasted stale. We really wanted for this place to be great since we live nearby. But now twice have had bad experiences. Today, my husband ordered a steak sandwich to go no fries no cheese. Was overcharged and when he Pointed out he was overcharged wait person was angry and at first said i already put through the charge he questioned ot again and she opened register and slammed down two dollars. He told her forger it keepy money and left. In the early spring we went for lunch. Three if us. Two lunches were brought ( not complete) and tge 3 rd order didnt come. - tge place was Not Busy. And it was Partlt incorrect but we took it and let it go thinking maybe the staff needs sime time to Settle in. But after today i doubt we will be back. The food here is far finer than what's served at the popular joints nearby. Also, the staff is warm, courteous and very accommodating. We have come here for lunch every day of our stay at Beach Haven (testing other restaurants for dinner) and honestly, it remains our favourite. Thank you, wonderful folks at The Shack! read more

The food we ate was good. Cute little restaurant, not too crowded... but poorly managed and disorganized. Went with a group of 11 for breakfast and got a table right away, however that is where the good ended. It took a while for someone to come to our table to take our order. Server seemed a little inexperienced and confused and it took about 15 minutes to get coffee and drinks to the table. The waiter wasn't very attentive. After at least 30 mins our food starting coming out to our table one dish at a time but by different servers and once they stopped we noticed were missing 3 meals. No one checked on us and we called over a very nice server and we asked him to get our waiter for us. He informed us that our waiter had LEFT and they didn't know where he went. He took care of us and tried to fix the problem but the food still didn't come out. Not a single staff member came near our table or even looked at us after this point. After waiting 15 minutes I went into the kitchen and asked for the manager and was told he was busy COOKING and was "over his head". The nice server asked what he could do. I said he could get us our missing food and not charge us for anything. Well, the food came out soon after and they didn't charge us for anything. Although the missing orders were wrong, we didn't pay for our breakfast. The worst part... our MISSING waiter had come back and was behind the counter! My wife asked him where he went and the manager then came out of the kitchen and told us that we got our breakfast for free and now we could leave. What an experience! read more

This was just awful! The crab cakes at $27.00 were mushy and not fresh, the Caesar salad had a tangy taste, and the garlic knots were raw in the middle. Would not waste my time or money again. Terrible service, ordered take out and they said it would be 20 minutes I got there after 25 minutes and they made me wait and extra 20 to get my food. On top of that half of my order was missing, I ordered over 100 dollars of food and was missing half of it. How do you put half of an order in a bag and give it to a customer? First time here, as it was one of the few restaurants open on a Monday in mid-September. We had the plain large pizza special for $10. Hard to beat that, the pizza was fresh-tasting, loaded with excellent cheese, and a light chewy crust. It's not thin crispy crust tomatoe pie, but it sure hit the spot for our lunch! A special bonus that they sell Working Dog wine by the bottle for very reasonable prices! Working Dog is one of the best wines we've had from NJ. Great food. Ordered Burgers, Salads and lots of appetizers! All cooked to perfection and tasty. Only complaints were the leaky air duct which leaked onto our food and the constant flies landing on our food as we ate. Last year I gave a bad review of this place. We decided to give it another try and it was pretty good. The menu is large and has something for everyone. Not a great experience. Flounder Florentine was floating in the sauce. The scallops were over cooked. They asked why it was not eaten at the end of the meal and we explained it was over cooked. Waitress just said sorry and brought the check. Why ask if the you never intended on doing something? Should have taken off the bill. I said something after I paid and the response was we do not do that here. Paid the bill, tipped in full and will never go back. Saturday night we walked right in at 7, should have known something was wrong. Should have been an hour wait at a minimum. Too bad, we are home owners on a vacation island (LBI). WORST ACAI BOWL I HAVE EVER HAD. I got 2 acai bowls (one for me and one for my friend, Chanel #3) a few days ago and they were both awful. Mine was just a pool of acai with a few slices of fruit. It was so watery that I had to drain it a few times. My friends was too icy! It was hard as a rock and she couldnt bite into it. Very pleasantly surprised. A great find for good food at reasonable prices on LBI. Also the inside is very very nice -- definitely not the "shack" vibe you think you're going to get from the outside! We wound up eating here twice on our most recent LBI trip, once for take out and once for lunch inside. While the takeout was just fine, the lunch was superb - the margherita pizza is a standout, and they do a terrific chicken parm too! The staff is friendly and helpful, too. As a local server myself I understand that this time of the year is crazy and often times overwhelming. But the service at this restaurant is worse than any restaurant I've been before. Mind you there is no more than 12 tables in this place yet the servers can't even manage the 3-4 each of them had. We waited 20 minutes before saying something for our server to come over. Then it took another 15 for our drinks to arrive and then to top it all off our dinners came out before our entrees. I understand the busy season trust me I do I work as a server and bartender at three of the islands busiest restaurants but I would never let a table wait 20 minutes before saying one word to them.
