They were one of the few spots that were open early downtown, and I was able to get a good hot meal in and still have plenty of time to change into ski gear, get to the resort, and make it for the start of lift operation. I got the short stack of pancakes with a side order of bacon. Everything was great. The warm syrup was a nice touch. Service was very attentive and nice. I ended up coming here both days on the weekend and had a good experience both times. Would return and recommend. I stopped by here solo and sat at the bar on the way to the airport. I thought the food was good! On the contrary, service was horrendous. It took a long time for my server to acknowledge I was there, so I had to order my coffee with my food. She then went about doing other things. I asked again when she passed by and maybe this made her angry? Eventually she seemingly slammed a coffee down and then my plate as well. Never said a word aside from asking my order, nor offered any refills. A different lady who cashed me out acted normal and nice, but the younger girl's demeanor was enough to say I won't recommend or return any time soon. read more

This place is a local breakfast and lunch place! The food and service were impeccable. Had the egg sandwich 10/10. Friends had the Monte Cristo and loved it! Sweet potato fries are also delicious. Might be the most affordable restaurant in Steamboat Springs. They have a good breakfast menu. The ham slice my wife had was a little on the small side and hearing it up on the grill left a slight burnt taste to it. The huevos rancheros was decent but not the best I've had. It's a small place that is likely popular with locals. Prices are very reasonable. Sandwiches offered a good variety of sides including onion rings or sweet potato fries, for the same price. We come to Steamboat every year and eat here at least twice during the week. Went this morning and had a horrible experience. Our party needed to be split between two tables. paige came out immediately yelling about they would need separate checks so she wouldn't get stiffed on her tip. We asked to speak to a manager. She said there isn't one and the owner is off on Monday. Asked why she had an issue as soon as walked in the door. She said she wasn't getting stiffed by the kids. 3 days in a row for breakfast. That's how much we liked it. Delicious food, excellent service and great prices. The first day I did the Mediterranean omelet - bacon, tomato, spinach and feta cheese served hot with a side of hashbrowns and toast. The second day I tried the Veggie Huevos it was a smaller portion than an omelet but was a delicious scramble with onions, pepper, tomato and mushrooms. For our third day I tried the Hobo Special with ground beef - a scramble with a little bit of everything. Large portion, I couldn't finish it all, especially since I love their hashbrowns that are both soft and crunchy. You can bet we'll be back! read more

Came to steamboat springs for 4 day vacation. The first morning we were there we went, based on the Yelp reviews,, to the Shack cafe It was packed but we really did not have to wait that long. I got diced ham in scrambled eggs with potatoes. Overall the meal was excellent. The service was also outstanding. Our waitress was constantly checking on our table to see if we needed a refill on our drinks. I was so impressed that we ended up going to eat breakfast there 3 days in row. I would highly recommend The Shake Cafe for breakfast if you are in Steamboat Springs. read more

Fun little place. We stopped on a Thursday morning at 10ish. We found a seat but it was full. I had the chicken fried steak and hard eggs. Bother were done perfectly for me. The orange juice was really good also so I'd recommend that. While it's not a huge serving of OJ it's fresh squeezed and very good. The Shack is a Steamboat staple and never fails to deliver in the typical diner fashion. Half of our table wanted breakfast and the other wanted lunch so we stopped in. It's clean, spacious and even has a few tables for outdoor dining. Is it the best, most fancy restaurant in town, no... but that doesn't matter. It's a local favorite! Note, if you're dining here August-November of 2021 might be best to sit inside. The tables out front are pretty loud due to I-70 being closed and big trucks being directed through Steamboat. It wasn't the most enjoyable because of this but not the restaurants fault. read more

Decent little breakfast spot in downtown steamboat, Co. Our waitress Kim was awesome. Helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and quick. Thank you! The inside is nice, warm and homey. We had a bit of a wait to get in, we signed in and waited for a table. No big deal. After about a 10 minute wait we were sat at our table, where a nice cold water was waiting for us. The menu is quite large and lots of choices, not many healthy options so if you're worried about your waistline this might not be the best place. We ordered some breakfast sandwiches that were all good. The bread was a little oily and the bacon wasn't cooked enough, but Kim replaced the bacon quickly so all was good. I had the Denver omelette which was ham, pepper and onions. The hash browns I thought were a little cold and not overly tasty. After enjoying my meal, I tried my extra side of Biscuits & gravy that I ordered and almost broke my tooth on the biscuit. They were hard as a rock and it was difficult to cut into. My whole meal was delicious but the biscuits and gravy made me feel otherwise about it, especially how they handled the situation. When I politely told the server that they were very hard, she replied with "they have been coming out like that". Personally if I was knowingly serving a bad meal I just wouldn't even do it. Do not order the biscuits and gravy sides or entrees because you will be disappointed I promise. She didn't comp the $5 or even apologize for the freeze dried biscuits that were basically rocks smothered in gravy. I am just giving my feedback, the overall meal was good but the biscuit situation and how it was handled will bring me into trying the neighboring diners. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast while visiting Steamboat in May and really enjoyed it. We were seated right away and ordered one of the Benedict's and the French toast. The Benedict was delicious and came with hash browns, I could barely finish it all it was so filling! My boyfriend really enjoyed his French toast too. I first visited Steamboat in 1994 when I first moved to Colorado and went to the vintage motorcycle races. We had breakfast at The Shack. They served a spicy huevos rancheros dish that kicked so much ass! The next year when we went back to the races again, we went to The Shack again, thinking that this dish was built up in our mind. Nope. The spicy breakfast dish was just as good as we remembered. As the years past, I continued to visit Steamboat about once a year and continued to visit The Shack, and every time it was worth the wait. I've taken a slew of friends here over the years and they've found the service, decor, and food to be fantastic as well. Also throughout the years, I've noticed the same staff has been there. I don't know who is the owner and who is the employee, but everyone has always been very happy and friendly while serving me the dish I crave all year long. Now if they would just start doing the vintage motorcycle races in the streets again..... I will just have to settle for their sweet single track on my dirtbike! read more
