we were on our way home from the beach and we thought that this was a good place to stop by and eat. This place is a hole in the wall. We stopped by for gas and walked across from the gas station. we ordered fried pork skin as an appetizer and it was fresh off the fryer. It was still sizzling by the time it was at our table and it was so crunchy and good. I ordered a pulled barbecue pork with potato salad and sweet potato fries as a side. The service was amazing and they kept our drinks refilled. The potato salad was the best. I am definitely coming back when I go to the beach again! read more

Great little restaurant off the interstate in Evergreen! The food was delicious and the service was friendly and fast! I had the brisket plate and it was great! The brisket was cooked and seasoned just right! The surprise star of the meal was definitely the coleslaw , I didn't expect for the best coleslaw that I have ever tasted to be in Evergreen , AL ...but it was just that amazing! Ok food, not so great service. Brunswick stew was very tasty although a little soupy. Sausage sandwich was very good. Brisket sandwich was cold and mostly chopped fat. They were nice enough to exchange it for a burger which was very large and very good but it took 25 minutes to get the burger. I kid you not. The baked beans were good and full of flavor. The ladies working there seemed like they really didn't want to be there and could not care less if we were there. read more

Right off the interstate & a nice change of scenery from the other dining options in Evergreen. We dined at an odd time & business was slow so we were seated immediately. Our food didn't take long to come out but our drink refills did. The BLT was fine, nothing spectacular but a nice change of pace because the only other things to eat in Evergreen are fast food. The cheese grits could have used a LOT more cheese. I'll definitely give it another shot & but I'll try the shrimp tacos. The atmosphere is what I find most appealing. Antique cigarette machines, antique washing machines & license plates from all over on the walls. It's definitely got that country down-home feel. All in all, it's a decent place to eat & a great place to break from travel to stretch your legs. read more

Really like the new location. Restaurant has a modern look and feel. The fried Mullet and Oysters are some of the best in the area. They also have some really good backbones. So, if you are passing through, stop in and give them a try. Last bit of advise, ask the hostess if Nicole is working. If so, asked to be seated in her section. Your drinks will stay full and your service will be professional. She always makes our night out more enjoyable. read more

We ate here on the way home from the beach. My husband had a Reuben and I had the hamburger steak with onions, mushrooms and gravy served with mashed potatoes. Both of our meals were excellent. The service was great. We sat at the bar to avoid waiting for a table. Our meals came out quickly. Highly recommend and we will stop there again. read more

We were traveling with our dog and they were not very accommodating. The manager was a jack ass. The staff was trying to be accommodating. However, the manager stepped in; they would not let us sit on the patio with her because it was closed and they refused to open it so we can eat with our dog. Went across the street to concecuh sausage. Food was great. We were able to sit outside with our dog highly recommend. read more

This spot is super convenient right off the freeway; however, there is nothing exceptional about this place. The food and service is very average. My wife didn't like her chicken and the coleslaw was nasty. I had pulled pork and it too was only average and perhaps a bit dried out. But what is worst of all, is the tables and chairs are greasy dirty. During this pandemic one would think a restaurant would be making a little extra effort to keep things clean, but simply is not the case with this eating establishment. This was our first trip to The Shack and it was really good. Our waitress was Christina and she was very friendly and provided excellent service. Drinks were refilled constantly and we ordered the Sasquatch Burger, loaded BBQ Potato, Shrimp Dinner and the Brisket Sandwich. Our sides were fried okra, cheesy grits, fries, onion rings and sweet potato fries. Everything was very good, probably one of the best brisket sandwiches I've ever had. The sauce was sweet heat and very good sauce. It was not overly hot. I highly recommend this place. Will absolutely be back! Sorry I didn't take more photos but the food was too good to stop eating! Stopped at The Shack on the way to the beach, looking for something that wasn't a chain and had some local charm. First off, the location has moved, so the very cool looking local vibe pictures of the place are old. The new building, which I'm sure is larger and more conveniently located right off the interstate, doesn't have the same level of charm or ambiance. It looks more like a renovated pool supply distribution company turned restaurant. They did the best they could with the interior decor, but it's not what we were expecting from the Yelp write-up. So why only 2 stars? Well, first off I'll say that the food was decent, but noting to write home about. It's expensive for what you get, so don't think you're going to experience any small town value. Main reason for a low rating was the slow service, probably due to the kitchen, and the complete lack of communication about our order. We had a crew of 6 hungry folks and arrived around 1:15 in the afternoon to a half full restaurant. We were seated promptly at a 4-top booth when there were several tables available, but we managed to squeeze in. Waitress took a while to take our orders and then we ended up waiting almost 40 minutes after that for the food, none of which were complicated orders. At least 2 other tables were seated after we arrived and were finishing up their food before ours came out, and our waitress walked by us multiple times without checking on us or acknowledging the long wait. We were preparing to leave and go to the Zaxby's next door because we were so hungry (and it would've been 1/2 the price for comparable quality) when the food finally came out. One of our party ordered onion rings that ended up having a hair fried into the breading. They were kind of grossed out, but the waitress seemed not to know what to do about it, other than ask, "what would you like me to do?" IMO she should have immediately removed the dish and offered either a quick replacement or to comp it, but instead said she didn't know if they could bring any more out very quickly because the kitchen was backed up. There was no acknowledgement about the wait time or apology for the poor service or hairy food. No manager ever checked on us. Don't think we'll be back to The Shack. read more

Oh my word! That's was scrumptious! I had a juicy burger and my Sweet Love had the chicken tenders. We had homemade home fries and yummy baked beans with sausage... let me tell you! It was so so good! Didn't have to wait long to be greeted by our server, Sweet girl, and have our order taken. I think my ONLY complaint would be that if you aren't from around here, you don't know to "seat yourself" instead of waiting to be seat by a server. No biggie though. I just asked someone already seated. Nice and friendly atmosphere. We'll definitely make a mental note to stop back in the next time we run away from home in this direction! When traveling our family likes to find the local hidden gems to eat at and mostly avoid chain restaurants. We found this place last minute for lunch while driving and it did not disappoint! The place is decorated fun inside and out. The food portions were very large and everything was super fresh. The ladies serving were nice and did their best to keep up with a probably larger than normal weekday lunch crowd due to all the spring break travelers. The sweet tea was amazing! The menu had a nice selection of seafood and bbq items to choose from. I really enjoyed the catfish I ordered. We also really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and sauce. Not one disappointed eater in our group. We will definitely stop by again if we are ever in the area! read more

We were seated in the bar area by the hostess. Took awhile for server (who was also the bartender) to take our order. My husband ordered the pork sandwich and potato salad, which is always a risk. I ordered the brisket sandwich with onion rings. The potato salad was not edible. And my husband can usually eat anything. He said it was about 80% mayonnaise (which he loves) but tasted terrible. I spent several minutes separating the fat from my brisket. There was more fat than meat. I told the server that it was the worst brisket I had ever eaten. She said they "cut it every morning." And that makes it fatty? She said some of their customers like it fatty. My Dad liked a little fat on his steaks. It does add flavor. But over half fat!? It was all mostly mushy. Terrible. We were traveling thru area. Hope the locals order the "less fat" version. If that exists. Also, the soap dispenser in the women's restroom didn't work. I used the soap dispenser in the handicap stall. But is that one always available when employees must wash hands? At least the employees were nice. But the excuse that they "cut it every morning" just doesn't cut it. read more
