My husband and I were visiting the area and this restaurant was recommended to us. We went on Friday night when they had the seafood buffet. The place looked fairly clean and well-kept; it did not appear to be very busy, but it looked like they were doing a good many take-out orders. We seated ourselves and the server came promptly to take our drink order and ask us if we wanted the buffet or to order off the menu and we chose the buffet. It wasn't a buffet like I'm used to where you help yourself; they have the food on display in warming pans behind aplastic (or maybe glass) "window" and a server asks what you want and helps your plate. They had fried catfish filets, popcorn shrimp, frog legs, stuffed crabs, hush puppies, baked potatoes and cole slaw sealed up in cups. The food looked appetizing and the lady serving it was very nice; however, the food was not hot like it would have been if it was freshly cooked. She gave me a big piece of catfish, but it was mostly breading and very little fish. The hush puppies and stuffed crabs were also not hot. The baked potato tasted okay; at least it melted the butter. The buffet cost $18 each and the iced tea was extra, so our bill was $44. If we had chosen to order off the menu I think our experience would have been better. Lesson learned. read more

This restaurant is in my hometown. The first time I ate here was when I graduated from high school and we had our senior breakfast. The food was really good. The first time I ordered, I had grits, eggs, bacon, and sausage. The second time I ate was when the pandemic was in effect. I had collard greens, cornbread, butter beans, and fried chicken. I'm a sucker for soul food so of course it was amazing. When you walk in, you walk into an entry way and then walk right into the restaurant. It is a self serve restaurant too so whatever they have out, you can choose what you want. They also have a menu that you can order from as well if you don't want what is on the buffet. The tables and chairs are wooden and they have signs up on certain tables saying to not sit here due to COVID. The employees wear face masks, and the kitchen staff wears gloves, but no masks. I'm not sure if Face masks are still required because there is no sign up stating that, but I wear my mask in there just to be safe. They have plastic utensils to go, but they still have their metal utensils for customers to use. I've never had a problem with this place so I give it a 5/5 stars. read more

I only have one word to describe it: Chaos. It's very noisy and the service is horrible. Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday and after our server brought our drinks we didn't see her again to take our order for another twenty minutes. The buffet had very limited choices so we decided to order off the menu. Half the stuff we asked about, they were out of. Finally settled on burgers and sandwiches. Ten minutes later she comes out and tells us they were out of french fries. Ordered the tater tots instead and waited....and waited.....and waited. After being there for 45 minutes I flagged down our server to ask about our food. She said they were behind in the kitchen because of a table of 13 that had come in. I looked over to where she pointed and it was people I had seen come in 20 minutes AFTER we were seated. After having been there for an hour, I saw the food come out for the big table she had referenced. That's when we decided we had enough. Walked up to the register to pay for our drinks and leave and had to wait another ten minutes for someone to come out for that. Can't tell you anything about how the food is because we never got any. Won't bother stopping in again. read more

The drink tastes flat. Service is ok. The food is really bad. I eaten up there about 5 times because of my father-in-law likes it. He grew up eating there. He doesn't know better. Every time I went I would get something different trying to find I might like, no luck. I even tried breakfast there. It sucks too. I would rather go to Hardee's the good taste better. read more

It was OK nothing special. I didn't like adding an extra charge for using my debit card. Wasn't told until I went to pay up. I saw it added to check and had to ask about it. I have never eaten at a restaurant that charged a fee for using debit card. read more

Service was horrible. Acted like they didn't know what grilled vegetables are. Baked potato was dry. Think it was cooked in a microwave. Onion rings were about same quality as the frozen bags at wal mart. Took about 45 minutes to get 2 bake potatoes and 1 order onion rings. And waitress acted like she didn't care. read more

This place is great. We were in Monroeville for a little over a week, and we ate at AJ's several times. It was always great. They have a buffet, as well as a menu. I can't tell you what's on the menu though, the buffet always looked too good, and it was. The buffet isn't big, but what's on it is tasty! Almost every time we were there, Tina was our server, and she was wonderful, as was everyone we encountered there. We wanted to bring Tina home with us! Very friendly, fast, great service. Coming home to Alabama, from Hawaii, it was so nice to have a place to get food "home cooked southern food." I just can't get it here in Hawaii. People call Hawaii paradise, well paradise isn't paradise in all things, and the food is one of them. I can't wait for my next visit to Alabama, and one of the reasons is so that I can eat at AJ's again. read more

On my way from Alabama to Pensacola and found this Amazing little place. They have the most Awesome food. The place is very clean and provides Great service. I will definitely be back. The prices are inexpensive too. They were out of coleslaw today which made me a little sad because I was excited to try it. Next time for sure. read more

The hamburgers are the best!! You will never want to eat a hamburger from a chain again. Buffet is good. Someone should teach them how to make cornbread though, theirs is sweet and awful. read more
