Great food with great owners. Monday and Friday are our special days. Fried okra taste like homemade and not frozen.

Oh my goodness, move on to the next city before eating here. Everything was from a can, prebattered, frozen and just awful.

So we had to eat before arriving on Friday (we had a late lunch at David's Catfish House and it was very good). On Saturday we drive out of town and found South Forty on our way back to Mobile. It was about 10:45 am and a little early for a burger, but after reading the reviews decided to go for it. Glad l did as it was in many ways as good or better than our favorite burger places in Mobile. So if you find yourself on the way to Monroeville stop in at South Forty, you will not be disappointed.

I wasafter I had sat down and ordered because she didn't want my service dog in the restaurant…read more She said they have the right to refuse service to anyone. I showed her my ADA card, and she went and called the owner who told her that he/she was going to post on their website that no animals are allowed including service animals. I told her that was illegal and they are breaking the law, and she became quite nasty and said "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." Again I attempted to educate her on the legalities regarding service animals and she said to me "Are you going to stop talking and listen to me?" When I asked to let us eat in peace and please get away from our table, she became irate and told us to leave that she was going to call the owner. I'm very well aware of my rights regarding my service animal and that she will hear from my attorney. As I was leaving and she had the owner on the phone, she then tried to tell us we didn't have to leave. After she had been rude, non compliant with federal laws, and called attention to my elder sister and I, staying was not conducive to her ugly attitude. She NOR the owner obviously seem to feel federal laws protecting people with disabilities apply to them. Perhaps a bit of insight will keep them from discriminating against someone else. I WILL indeed be contacting my attorney as well as the Justice Department, and the State of Alabama's ACLU. Under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), private businesses that serve the public must allow service dogs to accompany their handlers into all areas where customers are normally allowed. What Businesses Must Do Allow Access Everywhere: Service animals must be permitted in public areas, including restaurants, grocery stores, and hotels, overriding standard "no pets" or health department food-service rules. Treat Equally: Businesses cannot isolate customers with service dogs, charge extra fees, or demand pet deposits. Accept Only Dogs (and Miniature Horses): Under the federal ADA, only dogs (and in specific guidelines, miniature horses) trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability qualify as service animals. Emotional support animals are not protected. What Businesses Can Ask When it is not obvious what service the animal provides, staff may only ask two questions: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff cannot ask about the person's disability, require medical documentation, require a special ID card or certification, or ask the dog to demonstrate its task. I called back at closing time to obtain the owner's name and phone number, she refused to give me either and told me I had to call back in the morning. She then proceeded to tell me "I'm the rude woman that spoke to you and when I once again attempted to explain that service dogs are protected by Article 3 of the American Disability Act, she started again arguing. At this point, I played the phone down and walked away not wanting to argue with her or to be rude and hang up on her. Its unfortunate that this lady feels she can not follow the laws she doesn't want to, and that the owner seems to feel their business is exempt from federal laws. Robyn Belknap 8/24/2026

We made our reservation for 5:45 PM, and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine hospitality. The hostess was friendly, polite, and attentive, which immediately made us feel right at home. Our waiter, Chris, was absolutely TOP TIER! He was AMAZING from beginning to end. He made sure we had everything we needed, kept us comfortable throughout our meal, and provided exceptional service. The food was delicious, and the dessert was the perfect way to finish an already wonderful meal! We brought our friends along, who live in the area and had dined at The Gathering before, so they already knew what a great place it was. After experiencing it for ourselves, we can definitely understand why they came back! And I have to give a special shout-out to the lovely lady who checked on us throughout the evening. I'm not sure if she was the manager or owner, but she was absolutely wonderful! She personally came by to make sure everything was going well and that we were enjoying ourselves. And as if the evening couldn't get any better, she treated us to some pork rinds that were DELICIOUS! It's exceptional customer service like this that makes people want to return--and trust me, our first visit definitely will NOT be our last! We had a fantastic time, enjoyed every bite, and truly appreciated the kindness and hospitality shown to us. Thank you, The Gathering, Chris, and your entire team for making our evening so special! We'll definitely be back!

Those are not filling appetizers so I had an antree which was the Pasta and Mushrooms. The entree was the least expensive entree but was still excellent. I sat at the bar because I was by myself. I was hoping for some engagement with fellow people at the bar but it did not happen. What was disappointing was that as a backup, I had hoped for engagement with the bartenders. They were not busy as it was 5 pm. Instead they engaged with each other. They were having a blast yoking and joking and talking about movies. I would have liked to have been a part of it. The service was timely. Other people brought out my 3 servings. I did not feel compelled to give the bartenders anything more than just above 10% because I left feeling a bit angry. Usually when I am by myself and I sit at the bar, I get good attention. The bartenders can make a drink and that is about it.

She took the time to go over all the specials and let us know that everything is made in house since it's a scratch kitchen, which was a nice touch. We arrived right when they opened, and the restaurant filled up fast, so it's definitely a popular spot. We ordered the George Fries, and they were absolutely loaded! The portion was huge and could easily feed two people as an appetizer. For my entrée, I had the Truffle Chicken Alfredo, and it was delicious. The noodles were thick, chewy, and cooked perfectly, and the sauce was rich without being too heavy. It also happened to be my boyfriend's and my anniversary, and the staff surprised us with a complimentary chocolate cake, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We were so full that we had to wait until we got home to enjoy it! Overall, the food, service, and hospitality were all amazing. Definitely a 10/10 experience, and we'll be back the next time we're in town!
