2nd visit. Good place. I had a pork BBQ sandwich with slaw and baked potato. Sandwich is on Texas toast bread, not a bun. Bread had a funny taste. Maybe like a stale taste. Maybe it had been out of the package a while. Not sure. I didn't eat it. Pork is pulled. A good mix of outside and inside meat, just a small amount of it. Maybe 3 oz of meat. Very good taste. No sauce. A good house , vinegar based sauce on table. I think it's the only sauce available, but a good taste. Slaw is basic. Cabbage, carrots and pickles with small amount of mayo. Good. Not drowning in mayo. Add pepper and salt. Side baked potato was done very good. Soft with nice taste. Baked in oven not a microwave. Real butter would be a nice touch instead of the mass production industry chemical crap. Did not see a brisket sandwich. A brisket plate is available, but a bit pricey. Overall, a good place with good food. Give it a try if traveling I-65. You won't be overwhelmed but you will enjoy the food. Hubby had beans and coleslaw with his shrimp. I had okra and beans. I'm not sure which was better. One order would have been enough for both of us. Passing through on the way to Gulf Shores and this place was poppin. Despite it being Father's Day and the height of church rush, we got a table immediately. Our server was lovely and there were only two servers working on the whole floor and they killed it. The kitchen was slow, took over 30 minutes (after ordering) for our whole order to come out. Granted my father in law got TEN POUNDS of crawfish so he likely crashed the kitchen. The Only reason i won't give five stars is because the time it took for our food, other tables waited a long time also. We would DEFINITELY stop here again next time in town. I want to start by saying I was so excited to try the Steak and shrimp that I saw on Facebook. My friend and I got side salads, steak and shrimp with potatoes and onions two martinis each and cheese cake. Once we got our salads there was hair in our food. We should have left at that very moment but we decided to try it anyway. They mixed up our drink orders. Our waitress was sweet by the way. Well we thought that the manager would come and apologize for the hair. So we requested them no one came they said that they would take the salad of sent a new ticket it was the exact amount 118.00. Then we talked to the waitress again she said she would try to fix it. Come back and took a whooping 4.00 off. I will never eat there again oh yeah no favor to the steak or shrimp. read more

This is why I love Yelp. How else could we find gems like The Shack? My husband and I were looking for a place to stop for dinner between Biloxi and Auburn. Thanks to Yelp, we ended up at The Shack. We were greeted by a friendly commotion not unlike walking into a neighborhood picnic. Everything is fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The owner recommended everything and insisted on bringing us samples of steamed crawfish and fried mullet. I ended up with a five pound tray of crawfish and my husband had the fried oysters. He chose coleslaw and baked beans as his sides, which is as close as you get to vegetables here. The baked beans were savory and featured a local sausage. The crawfish had a spicy kick but was still sweet and moist. I really want to come want to return for the fried mullet which was light and the first time I have actually liked mullet. They are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It's well worth planning your trip to stop here. read more

I found this place due to a recommendation from an airline magazine article with some Hollywood star saying he went there one time. Not far off of I-75. Original Evergreen / Poole trucking company lot across the street. Unreal greasy sausage (just how i like it) sandwich. Perfect sweet tea. Friendly service Wife had pulled pork. Very good. Interesting building decorated with vintage signs and license plates. There is a train set up hanging from the ceiling that runs along the perimeter of the dining area. The deer on the wall kind of clash with the rest of the decor but that's excusable. Outside it appears that the tail of a plane is sticking out of the roof. If anything, stop and take pictures of the outside of the building. Different. On to the food. I had a cup of gumbo and my husband ordered a burger with fries and baked beans. O. M. G. I should have upgraded that cup to a bowl. The gumbo was delicious. I snagged a bite of the misters as well. The burger was hand patted. No frozen patties here. Not in the least bit dry. Yummy. The home fries were tasty as well. I generally don't care for home fries and was reluctant to try them. These are the only ones I will eat. Baked beans are in the same boat. I generally skip over them. Not these. Never did I ever expect to grab a to go container for a serving of beans. Yeah that happened. They were that good. Not a fan of restaurants serving can drinks. I like the refill option without having to purchase another. Only downfall I saw with this place. Prices were moderate. Our burger, fries, baked beans, cup of gumbo and 2 drinks came out to about $16. Expect disposable silverware wrapped in paper towels and paper/Styrofoam plates and bowls. Don't pass it up. icant comment on the food because we never got any. I heard the people complaining behind us but thought nothing of it. Another table of people got up and left and said they were tired of waiting. Our server says "Your tomatoes are ready. They are plating them"...10 minutes later still nothing. So after 45 minutes we left. Had to throw a few dollars down on the table to cover the tea because they wouldn't even tell me how much it was. Asked for a manager and she just turned around and walked off. Beans were really good. I loved the local sausage the potatoes were also tasty. HOWEVER THEY DO NOT CLEAN ANF DEVEIN THEIR SHRIMP. That is just NASTY especially if you know what is in the veins of shrimp. I had to ask for a knife so I could devein my shrimp myself. However the service was great and my wife loved her fish. That is why this place got a 3 star rating if only based on the shrimp it would have gotten a 1 star rating. read more

Our group of 4 had the Big pig sandwich, boiled shrimp and two of us had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were the star of the show. 5 for those, the friendly service and the spotless clean bathrooms. The boiled shrimp & sandwich were a solid 3 per the teenagers. Bbq pork plate and seafood platter were huge and delish. Kids had the chicken tenders and they made one of the little ones a grilled cheese and they were happy. Fish was battered and fried right in the back by ladies who really seemed to know what they were doing! BBQ was great. Was cubed and had a nice smoke ring and the smoker was right out front. If you're looking for a low-key, fun, "everyone knows everyone" experience, then this place can't be topped. The owners are such nice people, and they'll be more than happy to have a conversation with anyone who walks in. The food is as fresh as it can be, they go pick it up themselves during the week when the restaurant is closed so that it can taste great on the weekends when they are open. Their smoked wings are some of the best I've tasted, as are the home fries. If you find yourself looking for somewhere to eat in this town there isn't a better option than The Shack. read more
