After a lengthy conversation yesterday afternoon with another kind but bewildered customer service representative, I was able to confirm a refund for the cost of the never-installed valance. Beyond a series of "sincere apologies" and acknowledgement that customer service was subpar there was no other resolve, offer for compensation, etc. beyond the less than $500 valance refund. That isn't good customer service - it's a defeated harrumph of a "solve" only delivered after months of their mistakes, ineffectiveness and unwillingness to follow through. I had to demand a refund vs being offered one - after being given the option of an installation that once again didn't match any of the previous conversations I've had. From what I can gather, it's no one individual's fault but the fault of a company that has farmed out everything but their phone system to third parties. read more

I have to admit, their customer service rocks. In the end, the peace of mind that I got was well worth the money. They essentially credited me for my entire purchase, and allowed me to purchase new items. They came out and reinstalled, never charged me a penny, were kind and attentive, and really changed my mind about their whole operation. I was wrong. read more

Dan Farmer at The Shade Store made our curtain buying process easy and fun (even in a global pandemic!) When we visited the showroom he took every precaution, he was extremely thoughtful in helping us pick out colors and textures, we needed a very specific set of curtains for our home studio and Dan made sure we got exactly what we wanted, and at a fair price! As an interior designer, I love when I can work with people that have the same level of detail and high standards, and Michelle definitely does! The Shade Store has a great product and if ever I need window treatments, they are my first stop. I reached out to Michelle to help me with custom drapery for a 3 story home in Manhattan Beach. I am a huge fan of the Sunbrella company and love that The Shade Store carries some of their product. I specified a Sunbrella fabric for some Ripple Fold drapery that goes from floor to ceiling across an entire wall of french doors. I also had some Roman Shades done for several windows in the same fabric. It was on time, professionally installed, and looks amazing. My clients are happy and I am worry free that their toddler won't ruin the fabric. Another great experience with Michelle and The Shade Store! read more

Just go somewhere else, seriously. For $600 you would expect to get what you ordered right? Nope! That 100% satisfaction they boast on their website just means they will call you at 6am to spout a bunch of corporate nonsense ultimately offering to sell you a replacement at a discount (with no promise the new set won't have the same issue) or give you advice on how to maybe fix it yourself that also conveniently voids the warranty. Update: I've talked to Natasha pitti and Tami Silks in customer service. Both of them repeatedly telling me to just fix it myself. Will not even respond to any other suggestion to resolve the issues. They claim the alterations they made to my order are "standard" but I've checked and it's not stated online, or in any of the print catalogs etc. Tami Silks has not responded when I have asked (three times now) where they disclose these alterations to their customers. Why would anyone order something "custom" then be happy when they receive something noticeably different??? Bottom line is, once they have your money The shade store does not care AT ALL if you actually receive what you ordered, and will do nothing to fix any issue they caused. read more

I have had three solar powered shades from The Shade Store for 18 months. The buying experience was wonderful, but they have required work, having failed on me three times. I now have issues with another one and was just told by a staffer that the solar panel is not meant to power the shade indefinitely. It will have to be plugged in. So, moral of the story? Save yourself HUNDREDS of $$ and DO NOT buy the solar panels. They are terrible and a waste of money. Awful value considering the very expensive cost. read more

An incredibly poor experience. The initial install was terrible with the shade mounts screwed into the ceiling with different types/colors of screws and without the use of spacers. The 3 shades which were installed over my patio doors were not evenly spaced. The installer even asked me whether I had anything that they could use as spacers. This after they had measured the rooms/ceilings beforehand. One of the shades was marked and needed to be remade and replaced. The HomeKit router that was ordered simply wasn't there. The installers brought none of the necessary gear with them, saying that it should have been shipped ahead of time. After multiple reschedules, they eventually came to reinstall, and yet still some of the shades are missing spacers. This time one of the shades is not level so bows out. In the 4 months that the shades have been up, two of the motors have started making a loud whining noise and will need to be replaced. I was also (after calling customer service), told that the HomeKit router (which was eventually delivered) should have been configured in the store, so a "pro" will have to come out. For the price (of both the shade, motors and install), this is a pretty epic fail. I'm writing this after just having been called to say that the (re)installer missed the 9-12 window and I'll now need to wait for the 1-3 window; clearly they have no respect for anyone's time but their own. It doesn't appear that management takes ownership of the issues, just sends out installers. It's now been almost 6 months since the shades were initially ordered, and it's still not finished (and there were only 6 shades!). Not worth the time, money or trouble; you may as well use Leviosa and TaskRabbit installers for a 1/3rd of the price. Update: The original reinstall window was 10a-12p. They don't show. A voicemail just before 12p tells me that they'll now be there from 1p-3p. At 220p an automated dialer tells me they'll be 30 minutes. 310p a technician arrives, but tells me he's not the guy who was supposed to come, but maybe he has the right parts in the van. He initially tells me that the loud whine is "normal" because it's a "smaller motor". After pointing out that 1) it's far louder than the other motors, and 2) I specifically bought the system as it's supposed to be whisper quiet, he replaces the loud motor. The replacement is louder than the original. He returns to his van to bring additional motors. They are just as loud. So now he has to order new motors. Meanwhile we're trying to connect the HomeKit router: at his request I turn off the 5Ghz radio on my router... the app tells him that there's a 5Ghz issue (there isn't). He says he's going to order a new HomeKit router... so the saga continues. I feel for this onsite technician, he's super nice, but the customer service and equipment is garbage. read more

Terrible experience with the Shade Store. On our first install date the installer mentioned he wasn't aware of the amount of drapes that needed to be hung and would need to come back another day. Fast forward to the 2nd visit and that installer didn't have the things he needed to finish the job and needed to come for a 3rd visit. On the third visit, the installer was an hour late and again complained of not having enough help to finish the job. We now have to schedule a 4th visit and the shade store won't answer my emails. I would like to recommend Dan Farmer as a Shade Store consultant. He works in the West Hollywood location; however, I am sure he can help if you needs are outside of that area. I worked with Dan on shades for several windows in my home. He is the consummate professional as he knows how to put the client at ease the moment you enter the store. He is diligent about collecting information surrounding you needs and will develop a "mock up" picture of your window with you specific window covering to assist you in making your decision. I also found Dan had strong communication skills, which are very useful in design consulting. Dan's professional and refined approach makes his work much more valuable to clients as he also has a great way of keeping you updated on where you are in the process, any changes to initial recommendations and installation considerations. This place is awful. We spent over $5k on shades in preparation for our newborn. Takes months for them to actually come install. First time they came apparently the shades that they personally measured and cut and sent to us were the wrong size so they left without installing. Wouldn't expedite new shades and insisted on recutting the other shades we had to mail back. Wouldn't expedite scheduling either so took another few months to get it sorted. We decided to order more shades after that and used them again reluctantly only because we wanted matching shades. The same thing happened again! At this point the baby has already been born and it's a pain to deal with them. Then their guy actually broke our tile installing this second set. That was two months ago and the company won't return our calls or fix the tile. Stay away. read more

Completely unacceptable. We paid them for "professional" measurements. They gave us drapes that are ridiculously too long and then refused to fix them. The drapes we so long, in fact, their installer had to punch several sets of holes in our wall to try to hang them. They of course refused to pay to repair the wall too! Check out the pictures.
