As a long term loyal customer for years and years only recently have I been treated very unfairly at this place. They only care about their business and their name, and not about long-term loyal clients. Sadie has been doing my hair for years and years. I have always tipped well and respected and liked these women. I told Sadie I was going somewhere else just this once because I couldn't get into her and really needed it done. She obviously took offense to that, and told me it was a good idea to go somewhere else. They don't try to fix it they just block you from putting a review on their Facebook page. I have been in Chico almost my whole life and come from a long line of family businesses, local businesses and I will say that businesses who treat customers/clients like this will only last so long. Our businesses take pride in making sure our customers are completely satisfied even if we don't think they are right we would rather have a happy customer that an unhappy customer. They have done nothing so far to rectify the situation. They'll be others after me but I also know a lot of people in this town and I will be spreading the word of how I was treated. They are snobby, fake and there are plenty of other places to go in town that will respect you as a client. I've found a wonderful place with grown ass women who know what it's like to run a business. Also to the bitches thinking this is funny, well you've proved my point. read more

Christina is amazing. I was a regular customer for a few years but moved away from the city for about a year. When I moved back to Chico I, of course, returned to the Shaded Image. Christina totally remembered me and our conversations picked up right where we left off a year earlier!! My preferred hairstyle hadn't changed and she needed no reminders on what I wanted. I have short hair with highlights. I'm VERY picky about my cut. Christina never screws it up. My color is always great. The salon has really expanded to about twice its previous size. There are all kinds of services such as mani/pedi and spray tan. I haven't tried the new services yet -- but I plan to. The Shaded Image Salon is where I trust my hair style and services will be exceptional every time. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

The salon is so dirty and disorganized. Hair and dust bunnies all over the floor. The sink where my hair was washed wasn't cleaned after another client and was so gross I didn't want to put my head in it when rinsed. Old hair under tables and shelves. It looked like it had not been deep cleaned for weeks. Prices were not posted or disclosed. For the amount I paid, it should have been a top-end service with a comfortable chair, updated equipment, and clean as a whistle. I didn't see any solution or other evidence that combs etc were cleaned between uses. read more

The Shaded Image Salon Joy Cooper Yelp Review: Joy works at a The Shaded Image salon on East ave between Floral and Ceres. I was referred to her by a friend, who like my hair, her hair doesn't do well with peroxide. I was able to get into to see Joy within a week and a half she had earlier appointments, however my schedule was conflicting with the early appointments. Now, I have long, dark, thick hair. Many times I've seen the nightmare in a stylist face as they know it's a ton of work and many are not equipped to even attempt to conquer the job. Joy, who was at the salon early for my 9:00 am appointment greeting us with a smile and welcomed us in offering coffee, water and some goodies. This showed her kindness, approachability, confidence and excellent client service! The salon was inviting with super cute accent painted walls. I have her very detailed instructions as to how many highlights and colors (I did caramel and some reds), I showed her pictures of my interest. She listened intently and also gave her professional opinion. We were on the same page. Joy had experience with multi highlights and cutting long, thick hair and peroxide unfriendly hair. She used a demi color for highlights after the striping of my dark colored hair. The results were amazing, she did exactly what I was looking for and not once did she have an ounce of frustration with the huge task! Ladies, if you have long, thick hair Joy Cooper is your gal! I'm not here to bash anyone, just here to share my experience. I have never had a good experience at a salon which is why I rarely get my hair cut. I have thick, naturally wavy hair. I like it long because when it's short, there is just too much volume. It needs the weight length adds. But for some reason, every time I get it cut, the stylists always take WAY too much off. Unfortunately my experience at The Shaded Image was the same as it always is. I researched this place and I thought the reviews were great which is why I chose to go here. I wish I had booked my appointment with someone like Joy or Christina because everyone seems to love them. But I was offered Megan and I figured if she works for these two women who everyone loves, she must be decent too. Ugh I made a mistake. She was my age (young) and that was the first red flag. She can't have much experience. I came prepared with several pictures both of how I wear my hair and how I would like it to look. No crazy styles, no crazy colors. It was very simple. Megan was nice enough but VERY unconventional. She commented on one of the pictures of myself saying my hair looked, "triangular." Ouch. Ok. She was cussing a lot which normally I don't care about (I cuss myself) but it's not what I expected from my hairstylist right off the bat. I had the pictures OUT for her to look at but she went off and did her own thing. She said my hair needed TLC. I felt like her project. When she got to my bangs, I could tell she was beginning to get a little frustrated. They weren't cooperating exactly the way she wanted them to. I know how it goes though. I style my hair all the time. And she does hair every day. She should know how to work with different types of hair. But it turned out so choppy and unnatural. And my bangs were ruined. They weren't symmetrical in ANY way. I had to fix them myself when I got home. I was really frustrated because I just want someone to do my hair right for once. :( read more
