This is my second time visiting this restaurant and this time I brought my husband. We start with a very friendly "hello" from the bartender who was quick to get our drinks out to us while we looked at the very extensive menu. We decided to start with the artichoke dip which was a generous amount and tasted great. The chips were salty but that's what you get for commercial bagged chips. My Bloody Mary was delicious. Thick and full of flavor, just the way I like them. At least really good for anywhere in WI that I have found so far. I had the thin crust hot honey pizza w added black olives and mushrooms. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this pizza. It was just so good! Just the right amount of honey sweetness to offset the salty of the cheese and pepperoni! I could have gorged myself and ate the whole thing, but I did restrain myself fortunately. We had a couple slices reheated in the air fryer for a late snack (we NEVER do this!)", and my husband decided he was also a fan. He had a burger and o'rings that he thought the beef was bland and the o'rings were too greasy. Over all, it was a very nice meal and the whole staff that interacted with us were so very friendly. I stopped in yesterday to meet a friend for a quick drink. I loved the remodeling and fun, small town atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly and the bartenders wanted to get to know the guests. They recommended the bruschetta, and it was a home run. Get this appetizer. You won't be disappointed! We are locals and have been coming here since it opened but over time the service and food have gone downhill. We stopped last Friday night after taking a 6 mo break to see if things had improved and they haven't. The service is slow, it takes forever to have a bartender wait on you for drinks and drink refills. If you need something after your food arrives it takes a long time to have someone come back to check on you to get you what you need (sauces, ketchup, napkins, drink refills). The food is very expensive and doesn't taste good enough for what they charge (a sandwich with bagged chips, $15). We ordered the Italian beef sandwiches and they literally had no taste. No sauce and the meat was also bland. Needed a sauce for it but no one ever came back to ask for it. Turns out we sat two seats away from the owner and her friends and she didn't even get the red potatoes with her fish dinner (because they were out) but every time she needed anything, ketchup, silverware, etc, she just went behind the bar and got it. She will never understand what normal customers go through because we can't just walk behind the bar and get what we need, we sit and wait and no one ever comes back. When we were finished and someone finally came back to get our plates, they asked how the food was and I kindly said, "actually it was really bland, it needed a sauce or something." The bartender replied with "I'm sorry." That was it. They don't care about your experience, they don't care how long you have to sit and wait to be waited on and they don't care if you enjoy the food. Management really needs to step up and evaluate where this place is headed. They need to have more bartenders, more servers and evaluate their food and prices. I think we will take another 6 months off before we go back and hopefully by then things will have improved. Not confident in it changing though. We go out a lot and have many places to compare this place to in regards to food and drinks and this is not somewhere we enjoy going to anymore. read more

This place was last on my list for our extended Spring Green weekend. Ever skeptical of bar food, my wife went in to scout, and returned with a thumbs up. We sat outside in their roomy courtyard. I heartily recommend two items: the whisky old fashioneds, which were gigantic and tasty; and the cheeseburger wrap, which was the best wrap I ever had! Servers were fast in spite of a little mixup that occurred. We also had the nachos, the veggie wrap, and onion rings, all decent. Would certainly return! read more

You can't beat a good fish fry! We love The Shed's Friday night homage to Wisconsin's tradition. We ordered the cod, and perch, which is lightly breaded., served with roasted sweet baby reds or shoestring fries. Also happy the Cole slaw is not mayo- based. Our Bulllitt old fashions were perfect. Our server Laura, was so accommodating and friendly, even with the Spring Green Christmas parade happening on the streets. We, of course, will be back again. read more

This place was just what we needed.... stopped in on a busy Friday night to grab some food and beers. This town and bar /Restaurant was extremely busy. It was the towns homecoming weekend. Anyways walked in got a table for 6 right away. Waitress was an older gal handling the entire section all on her own. She was an amazing server and had a great attitude. Smiling and laughing with all her customers. She told us the specials right away, got our drinks right away and even took our order all within a couple of minutes. While we waited we all watched her work the entire room without missing a beat. Pizzas came out fast, they were piping hot right out of the oven, fresh ingredients, tasted amazing, reasonable priced and big pies. I loved their fish fry as well! I really need two reviews for The Shed - one for the bar side, and one for the dining room. The bar is a good stop. I've been a handful of times and enjoyed myself. Service was friendly, drinks are reasonable, and the pizza hit the spot after visits to the Shitty Barn. It's a little dark and worn, but it's a town hub and a comfortable stop to hang out for a bit. My experience with the dining room, however, was the polar opposite. Service was disinterested and our server would disappear for long periods of time. We ordered cheese curds as an appetizer, and they came out with our food about 30 minutes after placing our order. I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich, described as "crispy chicken breast served with mozzarella and marinara on a ciabatta bun." First, the ciabatta is the bread aisle version, not bakery bread. The mozzarella and marinara were fine, but the "crispy chicken breast" was a processed chicken patty. I don't know if they ran out of real chicken that day or if a patty is the standard, but it was inedible. In addition to the sandwich, my fries were pale and from a bag. I don't like to waste food so I usually just suck it up and work with what I got, but after cutting my sandwich in half and seeing it wasn't an actual piece of chicken I knew I wasn't going to touch it. I would have told my server, but she literally never came back except to drop off the check (and then didn't notice nor comment on the fact I hadn't touched my sandwich). At that point I wasn't going to try something else, and my boyfriend just wanted to pay for it and get out of there so I didn't bother to bring it up with the manager. We ended up going to Culver's after leaving so I could grab a burger. It's been a couple years and I haven't been back for dinner, but I have been/will be back to enjoy the beers and cheap cocktails on the other side. read more

Nice small town bar open late. We came to The Shed after a show at the American Players Theatre as this was the only place open in town. We were extremely pleased to find out they were still serving food. All of the tables were full when we arrived but there was still some spots open at the bar. The staff was very nice and service was quick. Bar offers several tap lines, full array of liquors and some wines. The taps range from several local beers to the national brands. We tried two beers from One Barrel Brewing Company out of Madison. For being new to us we thought they tasted great. In addition to drinks we also ordered a 16" pizza. I can't remember the name a pizza but it had black olives, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, onions, peppers and something else I'm missing. Overall it was a pretty good homemade bar pizza. Enough to feed 2 to 4 people. It definitely hit the spot. I'd recommend to any travelers looking for late night food and drinks. read more

We had lunch at The Shed the other day. My 7 year old daughter had the lasagne and really liked it. My wife had the shrimp skewers with rice and broccoli. She too enjoyed her meal. I had the endless soup and salad bar. It was a pretty hot day out, and I'm happy to say that their air conditioning was working fine. We got there around 1 PM on a Monday and there were just a couple other tables taken. Then after we sat down, about 3 or 4 other groups arrived. The shed wasn't as much of a dive as some of the other reviewers have suggested. It's a comfortable little small town bar with a nice little dining area. The locally brewed beers were the highlight of our visit while our burgers were quite good but nothing to write home about. The brews were five bucks a pint and the burgers, served with chips (no fries) were about $6.50. The Shed charges 25 cents each for lettuce, tomato and onion which drives the price of your burger up a bit and seems excessive--besides just being annoying. We were staying in Spring Green and checked out Yelp to find a place to eat for dinner after visiting Taliesen. We decided on The Shed. It's not much to look at on the inside, but the food was good. I started with the cheese curds, which were great. Then, for the main course I went with the Jake - a bacon cheeseburger with a jalapeño cream cheese sauce. It was quite delicious. For dessert, I had the grasshopper pie. It was nice. All pies are made in-house and you can tell. Overall, this is a pretty good hole-in-the-wall for a quick meal. read more

A nice spot for dinner! As others have mentioned, the beer selection is great and a stand out feature of The Shed. Glad we stopped in on a Saturday night while driving through. 'Furthermore' is a good brewery I hadn't tried before. I had a 'Slip' burger, which was a burger slipped inside a grilled cheese. It was pretty good, not the best burger I've ever had. Companion had fried chicken sandwich with garlicky sauce - he gave me a bite and it was better than my meal. I liked the interior fine, it was clean and comfortably lit. read more

I love this comfy WI tavern/restaurant! This is not a fancy place, it is set back with the decor but I love that old WI tavern atmosphere! They serve great homemade pies/soup/burgers and food. The beer is always cold and the owner always greets you with a warm home welcome and smile! The bartenders are there with a new drink when you set your empty one down! I always get their awesome wings if I stop for a few colds ones, I think there are 10 wings to an order, more than enough for lunch or an appetizer! After reading the mostly positive reviews we decided to try this place. We were very disappointed. The salad bar looked like it had been set up that morning and we arrived about 6:30pm. Everything looked wilted or dried out. I had planned on getting a salad but after seeing that I changed my mind. My partner suggested pizza. We ordered one of the suggested pies with sausage, mushrooms and green olives. Our waitress, who was the bright spot in an otherwise dim experience, happily exchanged the olives for onions. The two stars I gave this place were for her. When the pizza came it was on a thin, soggy crust like you'd find on most bad bar pizzas (Tombstone, anyone?) The sauce was bland and unremarkable, as was the sausage. The mushrooms were canned and thankfully scarce. My partner also ordered a Coke. Both bar tanks must've been running low because it too was flat and tasteless. I told her that I would've returned it but since she doesn't really like soda and had ordered it for the caffeine pick-up, she didn't bother. We were there on a Sunday. I don't know if the problem was a fill-in cook, but whatever it was, we won't be returning. read more

I pretty much spend all my nights at The Shed. It is by far the best bar in Spring Green. It might not be a high class joint but you are gonna get a great beer (try any Furthermore on tap, they're my favorites) and a tasty snack (Deep. Fried. Cheese. Curds). They have karaoke every other week and its a blast during the summer. Staff from the nearby American Players Theatre mix with locals for some pretty good singing! The owners, Mark and Wynn, are charming and hospitable. I love that they're working their bar just as much as anybody and cheerful to boot! And Leanna is the pro bartender to get your beer from. She is a delight. Go drink your beer on the back patio, feel the breeze on your neck and the booze in your belly! read more

Ah, The Shed...I have to admit to an emotional response when walking in the door, as I remember slipping in to pick up the only available take-away pizza in miles and miles, years and years ago, when worlds were smaller. They are a friendly and informal bunch. The TL; DR review is: judge this particular book by its cover. If you are cool with the outside, you'll definitely be cool with the homestyle bar food available here. If not, things are less predictable. An improvement on what was served years ago: they have an actual menu with a variety of options on offer...that's a fairly big deal. This is a microscopic town joint (full stop). There are those who would say that if you're Yelping, you're probably not going to be a superfan of The Shed - style culinary experience. Nothing exceptional...just (good enough, to be sure) bar food. Will continue to go back, just not gonna let expectations exceed possibilities. A dive is a dive. read more

In my three, short days in the area, I managed to grab grub at The Shed twice, and came pretty close to tripling, if not for my host and hostess reeling me back for a home-cooked. Very relaxed, small-town, gimme-a-big-ol'-bearhug kind of place. I imagine my third visit there they'd be asking me about my bum knee, and how my daughter's doing in grad school, then buying me a shot. Good burgers, good sides, wonderful local cheeses and beers. Zero stars. Is that possible? Fine I had to give a star but they don't deserve any. By far the worst dinner experience of my life. The server couldn't remember a drink order that consisted of "2 glasses of Merlot and a Brandy Old Fashioned" as she hushed others in our group to hold onto their order until she got back as she couldn't remember it all. Broccoli on the Salmon Dinner & Shrimp Skewers were ice cold. The salmon was so incredibly dry. "Loaded baked potato" was a joke. I don't understand the good reviews. This place is pretty lackluster at best. I had heard of this place before, so for lunch my wife and I stopped in. It really does kind of look like a shed on the inside, for whatever that may be worth. My wife ordered a cod sandwich. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. We ordered no alcoholic drinks. That is most likely our biggest mistake. Had we ordered copious drinks, maybe we would not have noticed that the cod sandwich was one of those from-frozen square fish patties on a hot dog bun. My Reuben was okay, but also seemed to be a slapped-together conglomeration of freezer fare. It didn't contain a lot of meat, and lacked the spiced pickled flavor of good corned beef. The sauce was served on the side and tasted like something straight from a cheap salad dressing bottle. We both received a small pile of potato chips on the side that were mostly small pieces like what you might find on the bottom of a chip bag. The cottage fries were also the kind you would get frozen from the grocery store, and could have used another minute in the fryer. I have read reviews calling this a "dive." Ok. If you look up "dive" in a dictionary, it will read something like, "a shabby and disreputable establishment (as a bar or nightclub)." Perhaps by that definition, The Shed is a dive. We didn't try the food here, and its a bit dingy on the inside. The bar is fully stocked and has just about everything from Summer Shandy to Spotted Cow. The people are nice and the beer garden is a fantastic place. Very open, garden-y, and everyone has some conversation to share. Its the best place in town to mingle with the locals. Yes it's a dated small town tavern but don't let that turn you off 1st night we ate there the wife had the rueben, i shared a pizza with 2 of the teens & the other had gyro( warning it is not off the spit,) I told my daughter to ask but she still liked it. I'm a bit of a pizza snob and have to tell you it was great!! Wife said there rueben hits her top 10 list. Our 2nd meal there I had the steak, pretty darn tasty! Everything on the salad bar was fresh. Wife had the Jake and loved it! teens had chicken strips and cheese bread and devoured them. Prices without a doubt are fair. Not bad. The folks here are friendly and it is a cross between supper club and dive bar. The problem I have is here in spring green there is so many places to spend your money. Their pizzas are ok, but you could go to the place out on H and hwy 14 (the shoppe) where their pizzas are 10x better and cheaper. Their breakfast is ok but you could go to the general store which is 10x better. General food is almost ok but you could go to freddie valentines which is 20x better for the same price.Bloody marys, better at traders bar. Beer, countless places are cheaper. Atmosphere? So many 5 star dive bars. Nothing here sets them apart. I came today because the general store was closed because of snow. read more

Let's just get one thing out of the way: The Shed is a dive. There. I said it. With that said, it's a dive that has two things dive bars usually don't: good beer (most importantly) and good food (OBVIOUSLY secondary to good beer). We stopped in here while staying at the House on the Rock resort on New Year's Day. Apparently people consider that a national holiday and NO ONE, I repeat, no one, was open. The entire town was closed...Except The Shed (thank you for that!). Luckily, The Shed had all we needed to offer anyway. We sat in the bar area (there's a diner section too...but there's no action over there) and immediately ordered some good 'ol Wisconsin craft beer and fried cheese curds. (Have I mentioned how much I love Wisconsin? These are two of the major reasons why). We also got a couple of sandwiches too. I ended up getting the Jake burger (a bacon burger with jalapeño cream cheese) and it was damn good if I may say so. The burger was overcooked, which I'd say is unfortunately typical wherever you go, but the toasted bun and the toppings were so good I didn't care. The sandwiches come with chips (like Lays Original, not fries) but you can upgrade if you like. Overall, this is a nice little towny joint with a decent enough beer list to make snobs like us happy. There's plenty of places to go in Spring Green. The Shed seems to be THE place to go. There's always something going on: fish fry, locals night, music, kareoke...... Solid menu, standard bar fare but with some twists. The Fish Tacos on Friday are my favorite. Good burgers, a salad bar with home made soups. The desserts are home made as well. Daily lunch/dinner specials can be amazing. You won't find too many places with such an eclectic crowd. The place was packed to see.......the TV broadcast of 'The Sound of Music'. World Cup soccer? Good luck, the place is packed for it. Same for Football season and Packers games. Family run and family friendly. When we come into town it's just assumed that we are going to The Shed for dinner and we usually are. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday night. Saw they had a half rack of baby back ribs, bread, beans and baked potato for $14.99. So I figured I'd try it. When ordering I asked if the salad bar came with it. Thinking generally when you order a dinner you get one. Our waitress very rudely responded that it did not. The ribs were very dry and flavorless. They fell off the bone, but thats not to hard to accomplish when cooking ribs. The toasted bread was cold, the baked potato wasn't cooked through enough. It was still hard inside. There was a band setting up and doing sound check so it was kind of loud at times. So if that bothers you, you may want to get there a little early. read more

We stopped by for lunch after visiting The House on the Rock. Really knew nothing about it but were hungry and were driving by. Always taking a chance when you literally know nothing about a place. My husband and I ate here at the Shed in Spring Green WI. and enjoyed it very much. We had great service thur out the lunch meal. Out pickle spears were served before our meal and were hot. I had the Slip burger and he had the Blooming Idiot burger and we both love them. Good fried sweet potatoes but I do feel that our restaurant at our campsite had just a little better fries. We would highly recommend this for a fun place to enjoy a good meal. We passed on desserts for we were full but they sure did sound good. We tipped the server gladly and also the cook. read more
