Do not go to The Shop Automotive unless you're willing to pay more than double the price of any repair. They quoted me $1800 for spark plug and ignition coil replacement which shouldn't be anywhere near that price. That included 4 hours of labor from an "experienced" mechanic. I took my car home and did this myself in about 3 hours for the first time ever. They will charge you insane amounts for basic repairs. Do not waste your time and money. By the way an hour of labor here is $170. read more

Phil replaced a failed EGR valve and also recommended replacing the exhaust bracket as he'd seen failures. We came to your shop as we were on holiday from California and Mercedes Benz Westminster left us stranded on the warranties EGR. read more

I'm a no to this business. While there are some positives, you should know about the negatives. Jason is the owner. He was initially awesome on the phone which is why I decided to take my Range Rover into them. Once I took it in, his tech, however, was condescending and a horrible communicator. When I raised it with Jason, he was apologetic but did not handle the issue. The biggest problem is an issue they missed. They told me there was no problemI with my suspension even though I told them the light kept coming on and that the Range Rover dealership had said there was a problem with the suspension. After picking it up, the light continued to come on and the error message says I can't drive it over 30 miles per hour. When I called them back to see about getting the issue looked at, Jason was extremely condescending. There were multiple people listening to how he spoke to me (I had him on speaker) and were appalled by his lack of professionalism. (they had choice words about him after the call) Even though they made the error and he agreed it would only take 30 minutes to look at it, he is refusing to look at it for 2 weeks. That is a problem for me given that we want to use it for my birthday weekend to go on a staycation. I'm fuming about the arrogance of this guy. read more

I went to this shop to have a front hitch receiver installed on my 2011 Toyota Tacoma. First, they charged me 2 hours labor for a job that should take less than an hour to complete. Then, they called me and told me my truck needed the transmission fluid drained/refilled. Their words "we checked it, and your transmission fluid is dirty." I knew this was false because just 2 months before, I went to AutoMex shop in Minneapolis and they flushed the transmission fluid as part of a larger maintenance because I had reached 200,000 miles. I watched them perform this work. Naturally, I was suspicious when The Shop Automotive employee also told me that one of my Ball Joints was loose, and quoted me $800 for one ball joint replacement. Again, Automex had showed me the Ball joints were fine just 2 months before. Still, because the employee told me I was risking my life to drive the truck as it is, I sought a second opinion. Thank goodness for honest and hard-working people like mechanic Mr Chan of Chan Foreign Automotive (also in Boulder). He not only made time to check my truck during his busy week, he didn't even charge me for the evaluation. As expected, he confirmed that the lower Ball Joints are in good shape. It is a shame when people use fear to frighten people into contracting fraudulent, unnecessary service. Do not trust The Shop Automotive. Go to someone who will respect you, your time and your money, like Mr Chan. read more

I recently had car troubles and couldn't figure out how to fix the problem on my own, so I contacted The Shop for a diagnosis. They looked at my car and determined the fix required was beyond the value of my car, and worked with me while I determined whether I wanted to go ahead with the fix or not. In the end, I decided it wasn't worth their effort or my finances to fix, and they were very considerate and accommodating while I found a towing company to get the car off their lot. Even though they couldn't help me in the end, John and Jason were genuine, good people who were straight-forward with me about what was wrong and what it would take to fix and if that was worth it or not. I wholly recommend them to anyone in the Boulder area needing car repairs. After other reviews and good word of mouth, I've upped my stars to a full five. read more

Very honest and trustworthy shop! I took my Sprinter RV in to have a Hellwig Sway Bar installed. They ordered the part, then called and told me that I already had one installed! They could have easily claimed to have replaced it, and I would have been none the wiser and $500 poorer. Big Kudos to these guys for being HONEST and not taking advantage of a customer. These guys are awesome!! They explained the issues to me, helped me decide which were completely necessary and which weren't. They were also really flexible with my weird schedule which made getting the car in a little difficult. I had Jason work on my car a few weeks ago and he did an excellent job. When I originally contacted him, I asked a plethora of questions, and he responded promptly and honestly. One of the reasons I contacted Jason was that he would meet me at my house and pick up my car. Very convenient! Once Jason diagnosed the problems with my car he sent a detailed description, including a video of what the broken part was doing. His labor price is affordable and better than most rates I shopped. I fee so sad and unhappy with this place because I bring in my German car, they over priced on fixings it and changed a lot of unnecessary parts on my cars. This was one of the most thorough repair jobs I've ever had. John also took the time to show me some of the other issues (including ones the dealer missed earlier in the day) and help me figure out which ones are higher up on the list of necessary repairs, without a hard sell. I was putting new rotors on our Subaru and could not crack a bolt loose for the life of me. It was so frustrating, and I didn't want to take it to a shop because most of them would make me pay them to replace the rotor when I had already boughten a new one and was so close to getting it done myself. I gave Jason a ring and he was at my place in less than 2 hours. He cracked the bolt loose and even helped me finish the job for an incredible price- way less than what I would have payed anywhere else! Thanks for the help, Jas! My car broke down during the weekend, and even though Jason was slammed, he took me in on Monday. I got a message from him somewhere around 10 PM saying he was working on it--the amount of dedication he puts into his work blows my mind. It was repaired within the week and the work was excellent. I couldn't be happier. Half the time, I am nowhere near his shop and will always go out of the way to see him for all of my car repairs.
