I love the Echo Park Time Travel Mart and wanted to give their Mar Vista location a visit sometime while I'm on the west side. Their hours are pretty limited. Google and Yelp claim Friday to Sunday from 12:00-6:00pm, but buried on their own website it says 2:00-6:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. Not sure which is more up to date. But I've gone out of my way on two separate occasions when the hours overlap, and both times they've been closed anyway. Their website does warn they're often closed during their hours and to call ahead, but I haven't gotten an answer. (I guess because they're usually closed?) So yeah, if you can catch them when they're open, great! But I wouldn't advise going out of your way for it unless you can call in advance and confirm they'll actually be open.

Then I saw it on my IG feed weeks later and all I could think was how content creators over-hype all these hidden gems in LA. I just notice that influencers put an exaggerated spin on spots like these to make them seem a lot bigger or crazier than they actually are for the sake of views. Not to say they aren't worth visiting, but I think the fun part about these kinda shops is discovering it for yourself or that element of surprise. I've just been severely disappointed by some places I've visited that didn't live up to the expectations set by content creators. It's not the businesses fault, but just how social media works these days. Anyways, it's a small shop that you'll probably get through in a few minutes, but definitely worth checking out. Granted you do receive the refund back but they just don't reply to emails even if you have a question about sizing. They need to be stronger in this area especially during this time and all the time actually. Don't send them direct messages on IG either bc it will go unnoticed and unanswered. The best is to call (which I have) if you have any questions. However there are times when calling is not option but sending an email is. Shortly upon arrival, we figured out it's an outdoor shopping mall with an upscale mix of name brand stores, boutique shops, elevated restaurants, food court with quick bites/snack/drink vendors, and fun entertainment. Overall exterior was well cared for in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. It wasn't super busy nor crowded which is great sometimes because congestion of people traffic may make our dining and shopping experience a bit hard to handle. We got to see the Disney+ Hulu Throwbacks Mini Mall Pop Up showcased in the huge courtyard. It brought back some nostalgia. Neat retro activity! We hit the food court first since we were starving. We grabbed a little something from Tosai Sushi, Poukei, AC Barbeque, Fuwa Teriyaki Grill, O'Gusto, and Massis Kabob. A few were good, but not all. Check out my reviews for each one. Thanks! Platform is a fun outdoor/indoor shopping center located in Culver City. Platform was fairly simple to navigate in many ways. Coming from Ventura county it was a little bit of a drive which was to be expected but luckily this center isn't far off the 405 freeway which did make this very easy to get to. Also the parking garage is clear and colorful (easy to find). Seemed safe enough and I felt comfortable leaving my car behind, haha, harder to say in some parts of LA these days. The parking garage was reasonable on pricing and it had an attendant so easy peasy. I appreciated that they had multiple maps and signage so you can find where you're heading with ease. This shopping mall is slightly more upscale, I said it. Not $$$$ price point but the restaurants and some shops are a little boujee for the average person. It's no rodeo drive but I could see this maybe not being the most accessible price point for the average person. We knew the content of the shops though so we were fine but did we blow a few hundred dollars, definitely. They had a nice ratio of clothing shops, to home goods, and restaurants/drink stalls. However, in grand total the amount of stores is slightly underwhelming. We walked this shopping center pretty quickly and were eager to see more cute shops. Felt a little empty in some ways but if you come here in mind of a few stores you know you want to see then your fine, this spot just wouldn't be on my regular shopping rotation as there isn't enough for me to see to justify the drive. Our favorite stores though were definitely Catbird (jewelry) and the Mojave Flea Trading Post (heard this was only a pop up store through 2023). There is street parking in the area but you have to be willing to walk about 8 minutes (a few blocks). Be sure to read the signs for any street cleaning or parking restrictions. There are also some meters if the street parking is full. Also, if you take a Pilates class at Homebody Studios, they validate structure parking for 90 minutes. That should be enough time. Don't forget to get your QR code for the validation.
