I appreciate that this is a smaller shopping center with better quality stores overall compared to a lot of mega-malls, where it's the same stores over and over and over again. What I didn't appreciate was how challenging it was to get into the parking lot and navigate around it, especially from MA 9 heading east. Had it not been for onboard navigation, I expect I would have circled a while. People tend to take short-cuts through the parking lot to get to the elevated parking area. Inside is pleasant, though it feels like the escalators are misplaced. But bonus points for having a Friendly Toast restaurant! read more

I haven't been to this mall in forever. I made my return after almost 20 years probably. I didn't realize how small it was! It's two stories but the stores and the mall itself probably need somewhat of a modern upgrade. It was very quiet on a Friday night. I bought some items from Bloomingdale's and they were all friendly. I will say some shops are upscale and the mall itself is quiet and located on a busy street with lots of restaurants and entertainment. read more

I feel like The Shops at Bloomingdale's is a more appropriate name for this mall because it seems like Bloomingdale's takes up half the space. Structurally this is a very visually appealing mall, but I'm surprised it isn't bigger given the location. Mostly high-end stores here and no food court so it isn't a typical mall. I do like that Boston Barkery is in here since I've been to the Northshore Mall location. This store is probably the reason why I saw more dogs than I've ever seen in a mall in my entire life. The restrooms aren't easily accessible. They're located down a long hall across from the Cheesecake Factory. There's a bunch of nice photos on the wall like it's trying to be an art gallery. Strikes me as a weird place for that. Parking is easy to find and not far from the mall entrance. If you want a larger variety of shops I recommend going to the Natick Mall instead. read more

Very nice but very limited. Higher end. A quick shopping experience at The Shops. It's definitely a higher-end mall and does not have a huge number of shops. The shops they do have, I would say that they cater to a bigger budget than I would usually spend. Bloomingdale's, Brooks Brothers, Apple, Crate & Barrel, Kate Spade, Sephora. For Xmas shopping, I prefer the shops at Chipmunk Hill because they sing carols to me in high-pitched voices. But nobody sang carols like the Carpenters, not even Carol King. I believe that all carols were written by Lewis Carol. But I've been wrong before. This is an extremely, extraordinarily, shockingly expensive mall, but then aren't most malls these days? However, this one is so pricey that I can't bring myself to give it 5 stars. Otherwise, I absolutely would. Partly because it's gorgeous, and in a lovely part of town, and a well-designed mall on a hill that overlooks the area and is easy-ish to get to (though not close enough to the highway for convenience). It is, though, right on a high-speed East-West main road and that helps. There are a small selection of stores, not like a mega-mall, but it's a lot of high-end and exciting stores that rich folk and nearly rich folk and someday-rich-but-window-shopping folk, will enjoy. In other words, everyone in America and tourists too. But the main reason I give TSACH (I love making acronyms, and I heard that YLMA too) a 5-star-minus-1-for-prices, is that it is the only location on earth - other than Dartmouth University, no less - where there is a Morano Gelato. And Morano Gelato, in case you didn't know, is probably the best gelato outside Italy, and certainly outside Europe, that has ever been created or tasted. It's just that damn good. And I mean pretty much all the flavours. And when you have a gem like that (which is the only reason I keep coming to this mall), then the mall itself deserves a high rating. Not a lot of stores here unless you just want high end. Bloomingdale's, Jcrew, Tiffany's, Jani and Jacks. No Bath and Bodyworks, American Eagle, any type of The Paper Store, Disney, Build a Bear. A sexist mall, oh yeah..... Given that my brother probably likes to shop more than I do, and we were there for over an hour trying to take full advantage of that no tax on clothes/shoes deal, there were only TWO stores for men: Lucky Brand and Bloomies men. But score for the women!!!!! Not only is this small, pristine, uppity mall one of the most beautiful ones that I've ever been to, but the fresh flower displays, lighting, furniture, and cleanliness, as well as the nice upper-scale boutiques and department stores would definitely keep a female shopper occupied for hours. This is the 2nd time I came here this week but both times the fire alarm went off. Something's wrong.

It happened that today I arrived 25 minutes earlier than the pickup window that I chose. The store employee demanded that I walk out and return 25 minutes later to pick up my new iPhone. He never offered any other alternatives and was not polite. Because I couldn't wait, I was forced to cancel my order. I understand that one iPhone is nothing for the company. But it didn't help me to continue being a loyal customer. read more

I can't stand this mall. Yes, it's very clean, and yes, it has high end brands that are probably hard to find, but it is like a morgue. It is deathly quiet in there, and has been deserted every time I have been there! There isno place to sit on the top level, so if you want to relax for a minute, you have to go down to their seating areas on the lower level. The seating areas are nice, they are like little living rooms, with upholstered chairs and lamps. In fact, it is so quiet there that it's like being in my living room! I have to wonder, are rich people really high-strung or someting? Is there some reason they need absolute quiet and solitude all the time? I don't know, but to me this mall is no fun and feels very unfriendly. They have a ton of guards around, so you are also very safe. Not sure from whom, since there is nobody there, but you're safe! I went there to go to ther Sephora there, mistakenly thinking I'd get super-good service. I left as soon as I was done because I had no desire to hang around! Maybe I'm just a member of the hoi polloi and just don't get it. Note: I think they may have changed the bus routes, because this mall is actually very easy to get to now on the T. The 60 bus will leave you right off by Bloomingdale's. read more

This is definitely one of the strangest malls I've ever visited. First of all, it is seriously tiny. I had allotted the whole afternoon for shopping here but was done after about two hours. Most of the stores are pretty upscale but there are some more moderately priced options like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Sephora, etc. I enjoyed looking around in these places. Sur la Table was the height of my shopping experience here. Although most of their stuff was seriously overpriced, I really enjoyed browsing in there and that store alone is enough to bring me back out to Chestnut Hill. What I enjoyed the most about this mall was that it was practically DESERTED. I had a very Zen like feeling the whole time I was shopping here because I was totally unbothered by the usual masses of humanity that one typically finds in a mall. Perhaps it's due to the lack of a food court or the priciness of most of the stores. I would give this mall three stars based only on the stores, but I am going for four stars here because it was just so nice and quiet and depopulated. I wonder if it is still so deserted around the holidays. If so, it may become my holiday shopping destination as I hate crowds. As others have said, it seems like this mall may be destined for closing since most of its stores can also be found in downtown Boston or in the Natick Collection. However, I hope it stays open just for that nice Zen shopping experience I had here. I did not see a single teenager ...or worse... massive horde of teenagers the entire time I was here. You can get here from the T (Chestnut Hill stop on the D line) but be prepared for a hike. After passing Macy's you must proceed up a steep hill to get up to the main building that is the mall. There's a little side path running along the main road that you can use to walk up the hill, or, if you've got the right footwear, athletic prowess and a spirit of adventure, you could free climb up some rock face and knock a few minutes off the walk. I contemplated this for a moment but didn't really feel it was worth the potential for injury just to get to Crate and Barrel sooner. read more

As a college student, I felt so out of place in this mall because I was dressed like I was about to hit the gym inside this place tailored to the rich patrician crowd of this area. The only places that were affordable to me were Morano Gelato, Shake Shack, Uniqlo, and Frank Pepes. Catering to the higher end crowd, the selections are limited and include Crate & Barrel, Bloomingdales, Apple, Coach, Kiehls since 1851 etc. Strange to say, I would only come here to eat since they have a few dining establishments (Moranos and Frank Pepes stand out) that are difficult to get to out of this area. Extremely clean, compact, and filled with so many spots to park, I can say this mall surpasses the quality of other malls in Massachusetts. This is a pretty nice little mall. It has the only Bloomingdale's in this area and it also has the L'occitaine location that is easiest for me to get to since the one that used to be at the South Shore Plaza has been closed for a while now. There are mostly high end stores here so I can't afford to do much more than window shop at most of them. No food court here but if you find yourself getting hungry they do have a Cheesecake Factory and a Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse here. There is also a little cafe within Bloomingdales called Forty Carrots if you're in the mood for something light such as a salad or a sandwich. I've tried all three eateries and they are all very good options. The salespeople in the stores are always real nice and always very accommodating. There is plenty of free parking. read more

Upscale, safe and pristine mall with plenty of comfortable seating areas and charging stations for electronics, great food options at different price points from the affordable Frank Pepe's pizzeria to the upscale Japanese restaurant at Bloomingdale's, Morano Gelato, Brook Brothers, J.Crew, Uniqlo, Coach, Tiffany & Co, Apple, etc. It was free and easy to park on the shopping center parking lot. read more

Ten years ago, I'd have given the Mall at Chestnut Hill five stars. It was just the right size to kill ninety minutes and there were stores I could actually afford. It had the only Bloomingdale's in Massachusetts and it was all packaged in nostalgic suburban charm circa 1973. I didn't even mind the absence of a food court. Then the bookstore closed, followed soon by Eddie Bauer. After that, The Gap decided it wasn't wanted. The Discovery Store folded its tent after a monster 75%-off sale. The Banana Republic men's store moved out (because, obviously, there are no men in Newton or Brookline) to be replaced by Banana Republic Petites. WTF?? Now it's J. Jill, Sephora, and a bunch of other women's stores whose names I haven't bothered committing to memory. Why not just put up a sign that says "No Guys Allowed"? I like women and all but men want to go to the mall, too! Five years ago, I'd have given it four stars. Even with the air redolent of gynergy, the hideous Brutalist exterior, the great spiral staircase, and the sunken conversation pits surrounded with polished wooden benches were a familiar time capsule. Then, a couple of years ago, Simon Properties remodeled it and took away almost every last piece of its soul. Now it's upscale marble flooring, plush carpeting and unnaturally-colored leather chairs. Only the funky, slightly disturbing bronze sculptures of frolicking children remain. The place is completely sterile with no discernible character. Your typical three-star mall. Still, the Mall at Chestnut Hill has the only Bloomingdale's in New England. I should hand out five stars just for that. But I won't. read more

I hate this mall. I would rather die than have to go back there again. I had to go last night to get a gift for someone and it's the closest place to my work. It's depressing and lacking in personality and I somehow always get the feeling I am the only person in this mall anytime I am there. Not to mention, it is is bitch to get to and from. My parents moved across the street early last year, so my visits to this mall have become more and more frequent. I took a tutorial for a new Mac program at the Apple Store last weekend, but had a few hours to kill between that and my Genius bar appointment, so I camped out on one of the many couches, surfed the free Wi-Fi and people watched. Saturday visitors fall into one of three categories: (1) Old people exercising (full out jump suit, HUGE headphones, sneakers). They just do laps around the mall. (2) New moms who are pushing strollers with 2 month old babies but are already back to their pre preggers size 2. I hate them. (3) Families with 9 year old girls toting bright pink Coach clutches and bags. I hate them too, but not as much. This place is very clean and soothing. You don't get your packs of teenagers with long hair and no money roaming around this mall. It is not loud in the least, probably due to the lack of food court. For me, it is a great window shopping mall. I check out Apple, Coach, Jasmine Sola, Anne Taylor, Banana and J. Crew before picking myself up something from Crate and Barrel (I can't resist). Don't expect a lot of sales racks, etc. I usually just scope out the styles if I am here and then head to Wrentham. i can see how it is not that convenient from the T. If you have a car, the free parking is nice, and there are some great restaurants and a movie theater near by. read more

Classism, ladies. This mall is rank with it. Listen, I took a personal day today. That means I let my hair air dry and left the house in moccasins and a hoodie, and I don't think one single person in this entire mall even glanced at me as a potential customer. If you dare set foot through the mall entrance without 8 layers of makeup and standard-issue Tory Burch flats, heaven help you because the stores' staff members certainly won't. Oh well! Took my credit card to Natick Collection instead, went home hundreds of dollars poorer and much more pleased. Peace, Chestnut Hill. Won't be visiting you again until I have helmet hair and a solid grip on how to only wear pastels. In my opinion, The Chestnut Hill Mall has improved since taking in the orphaned stores from the Atrium Mall. Among my favorite current stores- J.Crew, Madewell, Sephora, Victoria's Secret, Banana Republic, and Lush. This mall is weird because there is no food court, and right now there really are not many food options. Charlie's and Papa Razzi have closed, but hopefully The Cheescake Factory will move over by the end of 2013. I am not a huge fan of the cafe because 2 of the guys working there have been rude to me. Usually if I need something to eat I go to the cafe inside Bloomingdale's. They have really good frozen yogurt! It is a little overpriced, but you get a pretty big cup. A few other stores I visit-- Bllomingdales, the Apple Store, Teavana, Anne Taylor, and Anne Taylor Loft. There is also a Vineyard Vines which I might throw up if I set foot in, but some people like that sort of thing. If you are looking for a really mall experience, this is NOT the mall for you, but if you find any of the specific stores appealing, it is perfect if you don't have the patience to park and hike through a regular mall. The Chestnut Hill mall alongside The Atrium mall are childhood memories. Yeah they stink, full of snobs, designer clothes, mediocre food stops (minus Bernard's @ Chestnut Hill) but I cannot help loving these malls. I am not a mall type in general however Chestnut Hill is okay and kind of classy in it's own old world style. Cole Haan, Bloomingdales, Crate and Barrel, Sephora, etc. Ladies if your boyfriend comes here with you, he honestly loves you because there really is not jack to do here but (high end) shop and grab a drink at Charlies or eat something pricey (but worth it sometimes). This complex will not disappear in my life cycle but eighty years from now? Who knows? I miss the FAO Schwartz that used to be here and that terrifying singing tree. Those were the days. I am not sure why there aren't more high level reviews for this mall. It is not the most beautiful from the outside, nor does it have a good court or abundance of restaurants (just cheesecake factory and Japanese steak house) but the quality of the stores are great and the inside of the mall is very nicely done. The stores are high quality and nice brands... a lot more like the Natick Collection (nice side) but on a smaller scale and not a lot of food places. We will return... i think it needs better reviews. Love that this place is basically empty. read more

Don't make the trek to Chestnut Hill, just suck it up and do Cambridgeside. You'll save yourself a hike down Rt. 9 on sidewalk-less and crosswalk-less road and a disappointing selection of stores. This mall used to be classy and wonderful. I have great childhood memories here. Then they cut the budget and got rid of the live piano player. FAO Schwartz moved out. BOOOO! This mall is as soulless as malls get. Snobby and horrible. For some reason all of the women's designer tops are baggy and shapeless now. Is this because rich women are getting fatter? 2 Stars for the Bloomingdale's which I'll review in its own section. The mall iteself is small and it's so hard to find a parking spot on weekends or during the holidays. It's just a selection of the same stores you can find in Natick or Boston. You'll find your typical Newton/Wellesley types in here and there really is no public restroom in the mall iteself. You have to walk into the Bloomingale's or one of the restaurants. I can't believe they didn't consider adding one during the renovation. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this mall. It has everything a successful professional would want and need, with stores like Bloomingdales, Madewell, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Stuart Weitzman and more. It's a really great mall, honestly. Just not for anyone who prefers to save money. I have spent many afternoons walking around there and looking at clothes only to realize that the clothes are super expensive. I have better taste than my wallet allows... Such is life. This mall is plenty of parking which is nice. There is a Cheesecake Factory, so you can indulge your tastebuds after indulging yourself and loved ones at the Tiffany & Co. The mall is not very large so it might not be the best place to go if you don't know what you're looking for. Most interesting stuff here is a really large Brooks Brothers, Crate and Barrel, Apple Store, Bloomingdales, Stoddard's Cuttlery, Crabtree and Evelyn, L'occitane, Sephoa, Samsonite Black Label, and Sur la Table. Overall a fancy crowd. And there's a hidden secret. This mall is surrounded by *very wealthy* people and therefore it is typically the first place to see new high end retail concepts in new england. I can't stop thinking about my last experience at the Chestnut Hill mall. I have been going there for years and I really love it there, but this past Sunday (February 6, 2022) was a different experience altogether. It started off fine in the women's side of Bloomingdales, but as my son and I walked to the other end of the mall, we started to smell an overwhelming stench of sewage. There were some young men walking the opposite direction and we heard them commenting on it as well. I thought, did someone fart really strongly? But no, it was not a person. I asked a cashier in one of the stores at the end of the mall where the smell was strongest, and they told me that the smell was the result of a sewage problem the mall was having. I said, "You mean, they're having this problem today?" and he said, "It's been going on for months." In other words, the people who work there have been forced to work in terrible conditions, smelling poop / raw sewage all day. Shame on the people who own the mall. read more

I always find myself wanting more at this mall, and wanting to be able to go from one building to the other without hassle. There are some stores, but I feel like there should be more for the size of it. You need a car to get from Bloomingdales to Shake Shack, which my friends and I found out when we tried walking, thinking there would be a cross walk and not trees and a hill since we could see Shake Shack. read more

This is an upscale mall. It has higher-end stores that can be pretty pricey. The mall is clean, bright and has decent seating. The big store here is Bloomingdales with lots of other smaller stores.
